Animal Crossing: New Leaf Review (Nintendo 3DS) (9.7)  by
Animal Crossing... I still remember getting up early before heading to my high school classes just to see what Tom Nook was selling that day. This game series has always held such a dear place in my heart. I think it has to do with the fact that heading to the land of Plaisant, Tranquil, or other towns of mine always being a great escape for me. Making Bells, filling my catalog, and fishing in the ocean were always points of peace for me. While I've been very public about my discontent with AC: City Folk, I have a new-found hope once more for New Leaf. From all the information that has been dished out due to the game's release already in Japan, and Nintendo pushing more information through Nintendo Directs, I am confident this game will be a fresh take on a classic and comforting idea.

The game released in North America on June 9th, 2013 and released in other territories shortly after.

Please use this thread for all discussion on the game. If you would like to make trades or visit towns, please use the specific Animal Crossing New Leaf Trading Thread for further assistance. It makes more sense to keep this focused on the gameplay and game discussion while leaving bartering out of it. There are no Friend Codes this time around for Animal Crossing, which is a blessing! Many of us have already befriended ourselves via the 3DS Friend Codes Thread thread. That thread will be where we continue to befriend each other and trade 3DS IDs for the sake of visiting each other's towns.

Many many years ago I discovered a wonderful Animal Crossing website which has a great catalog feature set up. Now, the new game will mean it'll take time for the site to get a full correct catalog up and running but I expect it to work beautifully once more to allow anyone to track their catalog there. You can find this website at the Animal Crossing Community page. They also have forums there which are very active right now in anticipation of this game. Granted, the general age of the members of that site fall a bit lower than here, but I've found over all the years I've been there that the discussion is still mostly pleasant and easy.

Lastly, I want you all to enjoy the music from this new game or any of the games, whenever you want. The following site will allow you to hear the "Xam" or "Xpm" music that would naturally occur in your life right now as if you were in the game. You can select from any of the Animal Crossing games and the music will continually loop until the hour changes. It's pretty cool. You can find that page here. It's by default at the City Folk music.

So again, everyone enjoy this game! Enjoy this discussion! If you're interested in being negative about the title, just find your way to a different thread for that because this thread is about the experience and meant to bring the community together during the launch of one of the most community driven games Nintendo offers.

Say hello to Kapp'n, cause we're about to make it into town on June 9th.

(One more quick note; Keep an eye out for the game's review, which I will write sometime in the end of June probably.)

Thanks for the nuggets, Ludist! Good luck on your Cabin quest--I'll keep my eyes out for the other clock and couch.

How do you all decide on how to decorate? I'm fascinated with some of these homes I've seen. I just have essentially storage rooms right now. I need to sit down and organize. I also need to work hard on expanding the home. I have a back room and it's expanded now. A second floor small. A basement small. The upgrades are so damn pricey. i'm way too tired right now to hit up the island tonight so that's out. Ah well. At least museum exhibits are cheap. I can start making Gyroid Storage and displays there along with other stuff I like/have/want.

Just felt like livening up the look of the thread too btw. Here's some cool Kapp'n art.

@DrFinkelstein I just pick out themes and also love the new customizing. I've repainted my Exotic theme red and black, my regal theme royal purple and my modern theme Sapphire stone. And of course i've not and won't touch my mermaid theme from the island : D

Kappn is a creep, he's always talking about or to my girl..

Who moves their house right behind my castle? Naomi! And to top it off her color of her house matches mine... Know what that says to me? Servant's quarters ,lol.

I wasn't planning on it, but I decided to order this game in a holiday sale. It's backordered though, so it's going to be a couple of weeks...

Craziness! The scammer got back to me today, visited my town, and gave me the Golden Bench! It's nice to see a prodigal son story, and he even gave me a generous amount of money for the toy hammer I was trying to give him. So all's well that ends well I guess.

@TriforceBun

That was ballsy for you to let him in, but what did he say about his behavior?

@DrFinkelstein

I'm waiting until I get a bigger amount of items before I decide on what to do decoration wise with my house. I only have a few ideas what to do with my actual town right now. I'm still not sure how that'll turn out!

@TriforceBun

What a turn of events. Glad to hear it worked out!

EDIT: Asked yesterday but is anyone's town with Bell Boom offering more for peaches? Got over 300 perfect ones to sell now. It's going up quick!

@VofEscaflowne

If you have a constant cycle, you should just sell regardless of bell bloom and still make some good money. Sell in waves so you can still have room but then you can hit hard or sell all (as opposed to some) once you find a bell boom/peaches. Of all the things Re-Tail can pay more for peaches has a small individual chance of showing up. It's possible and I encourage you to keep trying but I wouldn't personally just hold out forever for the scenario if it's clogging too much space.

@DrFinkelstein

Well 300 peaches would only be taking up 34 slots . It's not that bad.

@DrFinkelstein

As far as choosing what to put in the house. I just find stuff that I like and throw it in there. In the very beginning it's just a matter of function sometimes. Any dresser will do, because you need to store stuff. Also any table will do. Then once I find a piece I really like and start coming across others in the series, I'll then specifically start collecting that series. Or sometimes I just seems to see the same series pieces over and over, so I may collect those to try for the full set.

I've played all the AC games that have come West and am really tired with the same furniture sets that have been in previous games. I think I may have collected the Modern set in every one. So for New Leaf I've gravitated towards some new sets. Sleek and Minimalist.

Now if we're talking how we set up furniture in the house I still stick the old Feng Shui/HHA rules. Red items on the right of the room. Yellow items on the left. Green on the bottom. Rare items in the corners. Throw a Koi and 4-leaf clover in for good luck. Put nothing on the floor if it can be put on a table. Don't face items towards walls. I don't remember if this is an actual thing or just my preference, but I don't like to block stuff off. And of course full sets of furniture gives you crazy points as well.

Honestly it's a little boring so I like seeing other people's houses and the creative ways they set stuff up.

Well, if he tried anything fishy, I could switch off the wireless communication and immediately lose any data that happened while he was in my town. He said he was tired of making enemies and had hoped the auction for the item had gone higher; makes sense that he wanted to make amends since the entire board was really turning against him after a couple scams.

@TriforceBun

I wonder if this will help him or.if he will still keep the stigma. I wouldn't want to work with him still.

@TriforceBun
The question is, did he "un-scam" the others he messed with?
What a guy.

Hey guys,

I am not sure if this is the correct location to post this, and please tell me if you think it should go into the trading area. But I have one thing I want to ask you guys, and one thing to discuss.

First of all, would anyone be willing to let me go to their town so I can see, and perhaps collect some fruit? I have just started, and do not want to "cheat" using the time switch, so this would be very helpful for me! Please let me know what I should do to prepare for this.

Second, would you guys be willing to perhaps all split the cost of an Animal Crossing Chat Room? We would use this to go and real time talk about Animal Crossing: New Leaf, or other installments. I would hope that it would only be used for this game, however others would be fine as well. This could be Voice Chat, or just regular chat? We could use: Mumble, Team Speak, or Ventrillo for some examples. Or, we could create a free group on Skype. Let me know!

Thank you,

Kato

@DrFinkelstein One of my friends is obsessed with the game so it's mostly for that, but I may check out what you folks are doing.
