Nintendo didn't forget about Yoshi, showing off a new trailer for the 3DS game, which finally has a name. To be honest the art style is still a bit iffy to me, but I'm excited nonetheless. Yoshi!

Yoshi's New Island will be releasing during the holiday season of 2013.

Check out the trailer and stay tuned for any more details that come in from E3!

WOW, that looked painful at the 0:12 mark.

Wow. I think this looks gorgeous, except for the Yoshi/Mario character.

Seriously, that's the one part of the presentation that seems weird to me.

EDIT -

Haha, I used this face originally
When I meant this

Arzest developing this game.

Arzest is a newer company comprised of...uh, former Artoon members...

Looks fun. I bet it will look better visually ON the small screen. The videos won't do it justice on the computer.

I know it's hard to tell from just a trailer, but the music I heard didn't really "wow" me. Hopefully there are some better, more upbeat tunes later in the game.

The more I see, the more I like. I'm still not a huge fan of the art direction, but it's growing on me.

Yoshi's feet are just to darn big... it's like he has clown shoes on! Otherwise, this is a lot better looking than the Yoshi's Island DS game. Hopefully it'll be better designed. Since there's not multiple babies this time, it already has the edge. Though I don't like the "New" in the title.

@TriforceBun Oh dear god no.

I think it, graphically, looks like a pile of assholes... like a prerendered Gameboy Advance game. But it's all about gameplay and design, of course. If it succeeds in those areas, I'll get it on day one.

I never really thought about what a pile of assholes would look like graphically.

Yeah, the art style's gross, like they spilled old school DKC all over my YI. Maybe it'll look better in 3D or something I dunno. Gameplay looks like YI which... was always a little boring to me tbh.

@TriforceBun

This was my fear. I'll just stick with the original Yoshi's Island.

@Hinph

You're right, it does look like a prerendered GBA game.

Really not sure about this one. Arzest don't inspire confidence, and something about the visuals (even though improved from the initial reveal) still doesn't look right.

This should have been developed by Good Feel in tandem with the Wii U game or something.

@PabloXl5

Like... poopy assholes, replete with hemorrhoids, each leaking out diarrhea, blood, and semen.

What I'm trying to say is that the game looks really fucking bad.

Wow, haha, really you guys? I don't think it looks bad at all.

Wasn't Yoshi's Island like..crayon? This looks between that and Yoshi's Story (to me).

How do you WANT it to look? Like every other game?

EDIT- AND it kinda has a watercolory Valkyria Chronicles thing going on. It'll be fiiiiiine.

@Mr_Mustache
It looks like they were going for something cool and then just failed at it completely. Like, they went for a cool painted style but they weren't very good at painting. Or maybe the pre-rendered look killed their good painting. I don't know, it's hard to explain, but it just looks WRONG.

@Het_Nkik

Well, we can revisit again when the gallery opens (..release day..), right? It might be TBTE!

Wow, most of you guys are crazy. The art style is fantastic in this game, IMO. Very stylized!

I think it's a combination of things that are kinda funky.

The pre-rendered characters bring to mind Mario Vs. Donkey Kong or SMRPG, and not really in a good way. What would look neat in the mid-90's looks pretty dated today when there're much smoother and stylized ways to convey character designs in games.

Regarding the environments, it's a little tougher to elaborate on, but I'll try. The backgrounds seem overly dark, while the foregrounds are unusually bright, making them clash. Not bright like pastel (i.e. original Yoshi's Island), but like...a weird neon color that kind of distracts from the characters. The color palette doesn't really compliment itself well; dark blue and super bright green and bold orange are all kind of thrown together willy-nilly. The field area looks softer and better, but it still suffers from strangely dark backgrounds (like the hills).

Conversely, I think if this game looked like NSMBU's painting stage throughout, it'd be gorgeous. As is, it's a good idea marred by iffy artistic talent. That kind of sounds mean but I think it's what happened here.
