And here we are.

THE WORLD AS YOU KNEW IT CHANGED ON MARCH 19TH

Game IS NOT Region Locked: NA + SA CAN PLAY with Europe + Australia + Africa(?)

Sorry,
Asia!

*THE DEMO IS A DEMON, JUST GET THE GAME!!*

Welcome to the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate thread! This will be our headquarters for coordinating our Hunts, sharing stories of war, and helpful hints for our brothers-in-arms, compatriots, friends, and neighbors. Please be mindful of folks' different definitions of "spoilers," and remember that not EVERYBODY played Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, though everybody totally should've.

The "burden" of running this thread has been placed upon me but...I can't do it alone. I will lean on Maxi and others to help with the heavy lifting occasionally, both in planning things and also in feeding this thread. Please keep it bumped (once we get going). If you could, let us know if you're getting this game, WHEN you're getting this game, and what your aspirations are so we can get us situated in groups with likeminded people. Do you want to barely play this game? Is this going to be your new #1? The most fun with this game is had when you get to go out with a group of guys week in week out, so if we can find someone with a schedule similar to yours, you'll have the most fun with it.

@ludist210

Are you on now?!

Sorry about your dog
05/17/13, 18:33
Did you guys get on at all last night?

Anything of note? Congratulations to the L-Man on HR5, woo!

Monster Hunter!

@TheOldManFromZelda
Another problem is that you can't spam people who are in Local Mode when you're playing online. AND sometimes you can't even check your friends list! Oh, Monster Hunter...

@Anand

When are you on again, you crazy guy? You missed Ludist's Day Out on Friday!
05/19/13, 01:06
I miss everything!

On a related note, I hate working.

I might jump on in a bit. I fell asleep playing local the other day.

@Mr_Mustache
Man, I forgot that we could even change those titles.

@Anand

I'm totally working. Are you on tomorrow at all? Not sure what I'm doing, but I'll be home "sometime."

--Titles: how did you do? Nobody else tried
05/19/13, 02:02
I'll try next time I log on, in ten days.

Tomorrow? I dunno, I might be on a baby visit. Multiple babies, even. It could get pretty hairy. And also kind of drooly and vomity.

Forgot to mention the other day that Ludist and I had some awesome "discoveries."

When fighting the Nibilsnarf, you can make him eat bombs and then he has wicked indigestion. "Uh, duh, I already knew tha--" I'm not done yet! When he is prone, AFTER the bomb burp, you can run up to him and press A / "gather" and a meter will appear. Press it a bunch of times in X seconds, and you'll FISH him out! At that point, he lies ON HIS BACK, and you can go after that DELICIOUS tail of his. FREAKIN' MINT. We found out too late and didn't get a chance to separate him from it. Next time..

Our very next battle was against the Zinogre, and with HIM when he falls down, you can catch Fulgurbugs off him him with your net! I had previously FOUND one on the ground and thought "oh man," figuring I needed to just get it from Tear Drops, but now I have an endless supply of Fulgurbugs from our Electric Friend.

Also, if you didn't know already, you can get stuff from the purple guy when he's hiding under water disguised as Herbs, and you can mine the Uragaan when he falls down, too. Experiment, friends! (And don't read the stinky internet!)

I'll he on. All. Night. Long.

Like Lionel Richienox? Limping on the Ceiling?

I jumped on at 11 and you were gone!

So I did some single-player stuff. I didn't realize that you had to unlock all of the monsters again for the Woods. I was wondering why every night was Purple Ludroth Night. (Purple Ludroths drank for free.)

Speaking of which, what's the difference between Day and Night during free-hunting? There's only one Moga Forecast per day!

Anyway, good games yesterday. (I was being uncharacteristically flaky, but unexpected stuff kept coming up.) Those Double Ds were ridiculous! Like, EVERY single time that I was charging a shot at one, the other would just fricking erupt from the ground beneath me or start roaring and mess up my flow.

And Cryojin literally bombed me to death while fighting the JB, haha. Two bombs to the face. DEAD. I was cracking up.

@Anand

If you hit X while perusing the forecast, it switches the day/night forecast! If you hunt at night, you get higher level carves (like '+' items, etc.). During the day, it's all lower level carves.

And that bomb to the face was gnarly. On the plus side, him and I worked together to get to HR5. The Ivory Lagi was quite hard with just the two of us.
05/19/13, 20:34
@Anand

Haha, Purple Ludroth NIght. Awesome.

Yeah, like Lou said, hit X you goofbox! You can still hunt lower rank guys in the woods, toooo. Sometimes its "better" to do that if you want to get a Lagi or Rathalos for a 4-star Commodity. Night has upper rank guys that WEREN'T there before. Fish, HOWEVER, will still be LOWER RANK as far as I can tell. I got all pumped when I saw my Quality Fin guys that I was waiting on...but yeah, no dice, Rocko.

@TheOldManFromZelda

You guys are HR5 now? AWESOME! did you do trappy bombs on the I.Lagi? That is like "the thing" to do now. Are you on later at all? I think I might be able to get on later tonight, like, after dinner sometime?
05/19/13, 20:48
I need some Ivory Lagi horns...who wants to run that next weekend?
05/20/13, 06:13
I'm HR4 now and only a few quest needed to get HR5. I love this game !
05/20/13, 12:17
@Mr_Mustache

We did NOT bomb him. We just used brute force. It was struggle though. Thank goodness the fight takes place on land. I can't imagine doing all that in the water!
05/20/13, 13:34
@TheOldManFromZelda

You didn't bomb him at all? Stache and I bombed the mess out of him and still had to dig deep to take him down. We (read: I) only fainted once, and that was at the very end of the fight. We broke everything on him, but the only thing I didn't get that I needed was two horns...
05/20/13, 15:59
Well... after nearly 5 months of many more things occupying my time (as the Guild Wars 2 thread can attest) I finally have time to play some now. Unfortunately that means I'm well behind you guys having just killed the Great Jaggi and about to capture Azurius (spelling?).

My Wii U ID name is FirstW.

BTW, is there a way to change your ID or am I stuck with what I chose?
05/20/13, 16:11
@CPA Wei

You can't change your NNID, but you can change your Mii's name whenever you want. Go through Miiverse and start adding us (I'm Ludist210) via the search function. Hope to see you online soon!
05/20/13, 16:56
@ludist210

I honestly don't remember bombing him at all. Cryojin fainted twice during the battle, and I think we both ran out of healing stuff by the end. It was hairy.
05/20/13, 17:21
@TheOldManFromZelda

We got lucky. I fainted long after supplies were delivered, so I nabbed some First-aid Meds and a few bombs. By that point, we were able to knock its tail off (the last breakable that we hadn't knocked off) and take him down (we wasted our traps earlier trying to get breaks/carves).

I hate to run that again and again, but I do need those horns...plus he's the only monster and the whole battle is on land, which is huge. I really don't like fighting the regular Lagi in the water, I can't imagine how tough the Ivroy Lagi would be in there.
