Netflix coming to Wii

According to the New York Times.

It's about time. And even though a disc is required, I'm sure the hackers will do something to fix that.

Thing is, will Nintendo add DVD movie support now? It seems silly that this would support Netflix streaming, but their DVD service would be completely ignored.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

This alllllll points to Nintendo turning into at least somewhat of a hub next generation I think. At first they were *just games* then they became Weather, News, Internet, Photos, and now Movies. Isn't this all a tad hypocritical?

Well, I guess that's pretty cool. I wonder how well the Wii will be able to stream video though, considering videos like "Nintendo Week" on the "Nintendo Channel" still stutter and pause for me sometimes.

That's nice I guess. My wife and I may look into a subscription, but we would probably just use our laptops or our DVD player.

I just started it on my PS3, it's a cool little feature.
I wonder how Wii will handle it?

I'm into this. Streaming on my Tivo is pretty tight.

I got PlayOn for my Wii, but Netflix didn't seem to work all that well. Hopefully the stream has decent quality.

He's right. Go to Netflix. Click on "Instantly to Your TV". Scroll down to the picture of the Wii. Hit the request button.

The disc will ship when it's released.

I wish them luck. I think the stuttering has more to do with the quality of your Internet connection than anything going on with the Wii.

I myself am going for the PS3 version for Netflix just to have something to do with it.

Yeah, I doubt it's my internet connection - it's pretty speedy for everything else. The "Nintendo Week" is the only thing that stutters. But the weird thing? It's only sometimes.

Hmm... Interesting. I'd probably do that on 360 due to what's already been mentioned, but it's cool to have the option on Wii nonetheless.

Im sure they will fix it, or what would be the point. I myself dont have too many problems streaming stuff on my Wii. I atually have Netflix and I watch movies through my Xbox360. I actually have my 360 hardwired to my router. Im not paying $90 for the adapter to have it wireless. What the hell was MS thinking when Nintendo and Sony both have Wifi.?!

Anyways, the video quality is really good. Alot of the movies, shows, ect that you can stream are in HD(as long as you have enough bandwidth or whatever the terminology is). I have DSL through verizon. I dont have the fastest but I have the next fastest and most of the time(about 90%) the movies come through in HD. Im going to call verizon and see how much to upgrade to the fastest. Anyways, I will get he disc for the Wii when it becomes available and try Netflix through my Wii. I love being able to stream through my 360 and watch movies on my 42" set. Once I do, I will post impressions on how well the movies stream on the Wii compared to the 360.

I think it's pretty cool that they're offering this, but being that I own both of the HD systems, I doubt I'll be streaming Netflix on my Wii anytime soon. I mostly use my 360 for streaming since it doesn't require a disc, though I do have the PS3 disc and I requested the Wii disc.

Cool, though as a Canadian I won't be able to use it.

Hell, the PSN Store is supposed to be filled with TV shows and movies and music... except if you're in Canada.

Just move already.

I doubt Netflix will stutter, as long as the Wii can handle the basic memory requirements (which are pretty small, I think). The Nintendo Channel runs off of Nintendo's servers. Netflix has their own.

Anyway, this is a really good service, although I used it a lot more during the trial period.

I use my sister's account.

Awesome news. I'm already streaming HD to my 360, so I doubt I'll be doing it. Still, it would be interesting to see how they implement the Wiimote. I can't stand using the 360 controller to play movies. One bump of those shoulder buttons, and you're suddenly skipping at high speed through half the program.

The PS3 is handling it nicely and it's in the same room as the Wii. I might put it on the 360, though.

Good for Nintendo and Netflix in finally closing this out.

You know what? I didn't think I would actually care, but I just realized that I would...

because the Wii has Wi-Fi!! The one technical advantage it has over the 360 (well, that and (sort of) reliability) is finally going to come in handy.

There's probably another technical advantage, but I don't feel like thinking about it. (Noise?)

@helaciouscrumb

You will have to let us know how it looks. I tried PlayOn for my Wii, but it was terrible. I'm looking forward to my disc, but alas, I have not received an email.

I got my disc today. The picture quality is pretty good, and the interface is awesome. It's much better than the PS3 version, but the 360 one is still the way to go as it's the only one that upscales to 1080p.

This has the best interface out of the three, btw. It's really slick.
