Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble (800 Points): Revisit Donkey Kong Island and join the Kong family for their latest adventure. The Kremlings have a mysterious new leader named KAOS and are up to their usual mischief, even capturing Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. Now it's up to Dixie Kong and the newest Kong, a giant infant named Kiddy, to rescue the two missing apes. They'll travel across previously unseen parts of the island in their search, and even take to the skies in a rocket at one point. Lucky for them, Dixie and Kiddy's powers complement each other (including Kiddy's talent for rolling like a barrel), so they form a powerful team capable of major Kremling damage. They're not completely on their own, either, since returning favorites like Funky Kong and Enguarde the swordfish provide help along the way. And in a series known for its abundance of secrets and high replay value, this entry doesn't disappoint, with enough hours of game play to satisfy Donkey Kong himself. Anyone else have a sudden urge for some bananas?

@PogueSquadron I don't think the music in DKC3 is better. I've never played the game! I just finished DKC1 and I am now beginning DKC2. I'll play DKC3 as soon as I'm done with DKC2.

What don't you like about the music in DKC2? Is it the darker feeling that it has compared to the first DKC?

To be fair DKC2 soundtrack only gets better as you play. DKC most of the great tunes are in the first world.

@sirmastersephiroth Ooooooh.

I think then yeah, that's debatable. DCK1 has some amazing, memorable music. I think overall I like the DKC2 music better, if just for the mine and bramble levels. Awesome stuff.

And also, the first world's music only really standout is Lockjaw's Locker. Fucking awesome. The boss music is also awesome.

I've only finished the first world and so far the music hasn't impressed me much. I guess we'll see what I think about it as I go.

@sirmastersephiroth But...Lockjaw's Locker! So good!

I like the music for DKC2's pirate ship, whatever the name is, although it took me a while before I appreciated its brilliance. I can almost think up words for the tune, being sung by a bunch of scurvy pirates in an old pub.

@Mop it up I like the slower start to DKC2's music. It just really makes you feel like you're out at sea. And I LOVE how you hear the cracking of the wood in the boat, both when you're outside of the ship and inside in the hold levels.

DKC2 and Muppet Treasure Island do pirates better than anything else.

Not bad. Not great either.

Finally! Some awesome music:

Beat Kremwood Forest, pretty straightforward all the way through. I find that yellowish/brownish riverside stage with Ellie to be ugly as hell. Game's been pretty easy so far. Spider boss was pretty fun. Still no sign of DK or Diddy.

So I broke down and played DKC as well. Ended up beating it with 101% for the first time ever (granted, I did have some help). Might give DKC2 a play later this week or next.

I am currently playing the game in French. I don't speak French, so the bear trading quest is going to be all kinds of fun to figure out. Consider it a self-imposed challenge. So far I've raised all the flags in Lac Orangatanga, Forêt De Kremwood, Baie des Babouins, and Mékanos.

@PogueSquadron
That, and Monkey Island.

We just started Donkey Kong Country 2 last night. What does the Klubba's Kiosk stuff do again? Are you supposed to pay him to get something? Seems like you had to..

@Mr_Mustache You pay him in order to unlock levels in the Lost World, which is key to getting to the true final boss fight.

@X-pert74

Bah. Thanks.

I feel like Rare had no filter with this game. Tonight, I've done the level Feeding Frenzy, where you have to feed the fish. I've also done pipe mine-cart level, as well as a few others. While a lot of the levels in the game have tweaks to them, I don't feel that these tweaks always make the game better. Usually I just feel that they slow the game down unnecessarily. The Zero-G pipe level is annoying as well, though I know some people like these levels.

Regarding the 'mine cart' level...I feel that this game, much less than the first two, gives you an idea of what's coming up. Does anyone feel this way? And now they add the mechanic of riding on the ceiling, and I just never know where I'm supposed to be. I'd love to say I'm going to back to these levels and 103% the game, but I'm not sure that's going to happen.

Best DKC 2 songs.

@Zero I really like the first and third songs you picked.
