Hmm. So, we (my wife and I, but really more like me with her sitting there which is the exact opposite of every other RPG we've played ever) played this a bit more last night and just got to the part where Fiora is killed. I'm not sure what to do now, honestly. It was quickly becoming one of my favorite RPGs I've ever played (and I don't even LIKE RPGs) but this has almost entirely ruined it for me. It turned the main character from someone I could connect with into a raving lunatic bent on revenge, and I don't want to play a character like that. At all.

It's such a shame. I may not go back now, but it was a lot of fun before and I was loving the story and characters.

Things to think about, I guess.

You've but scratched the surface of a game that can last 60+ hours depending on what you do.

@-JKR-

Did you quit watching every single Disney animated movie when someone was axed? Because that happens in just about every Disney animated movie, from Snow White to Tangled (and every other movie inbetween that I can think of).

Look, I haven't even started Xenoblade Chronicles yet, but that would be the kind of thing that would draw me in further. Besides, it's a video game. Who's to say she won't be back?

Raving lunatic?
04/19/12, 18:00
Dungeon crawling? phat lootz? count me in I have heard nothing but great things about this game.

@ludist210

When was someone axed in Snow White? The evil queen? What on earth are you talking about?

I can think of one, and it's Bambi. And yeah, I stopped watching it. I hate friggin' Bambi.

Can someone 100% CONFIRM that NAMED monsters come back? Someone said so, but I'm not so sure..

I swear I killed Violent Adamente (or whatever his name is) on the Bionis Leg: Villera Hill - Sky Stage, and THEN I received the timed Quest asking me to do such. I'm confused as all heck, and I've combed the poop out of that area.

They do come back.

@VofEscaflowne

Do I have to wait a while, or am I just missing him?

Also, is a "thunderstorm" the same as a "rainstorm?" Gotta find White Eduardo, too..
04/19/12, 21:45
Unless the quest specifies a certain time for the monster to come out, just waiting a while should be fine. And I'm not sure why those are spoilers but no, a rainstorm is not the same as a thunderstorm

@VofEscaflowne

Maybe someone didn't know there was rain? I didn't.

Thanks for your help. Stupid jerks hiding from me..

@-JKR-

Most Disney movies cover that subject, be it someone evil (Queen Grimhilde from Snow White, Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, or Gothel from Tangled) or someone good (Ray from The Princess and the Frog, Mufasa from The Lion King, or Bambi's mom). It's an emotion that many Disney films have explored a lot.

I'd recommend not playing Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon if death in video games bothers you.

At 40 hours, I'm starting to become afraid this is all getting a bit too predictable...

I just fought Mumkhar in the snow area...and that reveal was hardly shocking. My fear now is that a bit later down the road we'll be fighting a Mechonis version of Gadolt, and everyone in the party will act like they didn't see it coming

Loving the combat of this game so much though. My current team is Melia (me), Shulk, and Riki, and we pretty much have been decimating everything

@ludist210

It really isn't death in video games that bothers me. (I forgot about Ray, by the way. That also crushed me something awful. Mufasa I didn't really care about because as a character I didn't like him.) In this instance, it's more the switch from "I want to learn the secrets of all this stuff!" to "I want to kill every last one of them!" The death made me sad (especially since he freaking SAW it and didn't stop it) but it's much more that I don't want to play a character bent on vengeance. Revenge is stupid. The only thing I've ever seen where revenge was interesting at all was Count of Monte Cristo. Which was freaking awesome.

For some reason when he said "I want to hunt them down and kill them all" all I could think about was:

"I DON'T LIKE SAND! WAAAAAAAAA!"

Are some enemies meant to kick your ass for you to return later?? This giant worm in a cave shit kicked me like crazy.
04/20/12, 00:32
@carlosrox

Seems that way. I ran past it.

Of course, I also didn't bother equipping any new items from the start, so that might have been part of the problem. (That's the part I dislike about RPGs, constant item management.)

I'm into Xenoblade in a big way.... I'm loving this game and doing more side quests then I thought I would ever do. Maybe i'm in a secret contest with Stache... DAMN YOU...! However I'm at the point that some of the Side quests in Colony 9 are appearing and are for monsters that would kick my ass in a heartbeat so there is no way to complete them ALL in one section - you are meant to come back.

@-JKR-

I'm not sure what to think about Fiora..and her apparent death. Is she dead? Maybe. Did we see a body? Nope. Who know what really happened. But I'm willing to find out.

But this game may have one other thing in common with Chrono Trigger.

Stay away from the Diablo games then. You'll have a cow and a half if you have even a trivial amount of trouble with simple item management.

@Smerd

That is what I'm holding out hope for. Please please please let that be the case...

@CB200

That's EXACTLY why I stay away from the Diablo series. :P

So, we played more of Xenoblade over the weekend. Figured out a good system. I run around, fight things, and get the collectables (my favorite things to do) and my wife handles towns, item management, and leveling. It's win-win! And I have to say, now that I'm getting used to the battle system, I absolutely LOVE this game right now. Hands down best RPG I've ever played (outside of maybe Pokemon Blue, but that's because the stars aligned perfectly for Pokemon at the point in my life) and a must-own Wii title for every video game fan out there. I don't even LIKE RPGs! Man is this freaking fantastic.

Holy shit, someone made Jargon's alternate reality machine happen! I'm scared...
