Alrighty everyone, the game is finally out in all primary regions.... IDreamofHime was the first to receive their copy here on the boards. This is the place to discuss it!!!

Welcome to the thread on Negative World where all wondrous Zelda talk can occur. I would recommend that if you wanna talk about deeper-game stuff as we get going, perhaps spoiler-tag it and then describe outside of spoilers where in the game it is. The recent Super Mario 3D Land Discussion Thread is a good example. That'll allow people who aren't too far to read the thread without actually spoiling stuff for them. Just try to be courteous but definitely have fun with the game and discussions!!

Have ye what it takes?

Be sure to hit up the Skyward Sword Game Page and add the game to your collection once you've received yours. Be sure to mark it as "Playing" while you work on it and after you're played it sufficiently, give it a score you deem fitting!

If you've beaten the game, click on over to roykoopa64's Skyward Sword story/ ending discussion (SPOILERS), and general thoughts thread! It's like this thread part deux!!

@carlosrox

Or how you can sell 5 bugs/treasure at a time or all of your bugs/treasure. It's like, if I have 60 amber relics, why can't I sell 30 of them? 50 of them? It's annoying that you have to sell 5 at a time, and go through the same 5 stupid lines over and over and over again. "Ooooooooh, thanks mantis face! I mean that in a good way. I love mantises." Over and over again.

Yeah, it's beyond retarded now. Nintendo should know better.

I can't understand why they do it. You pick up a treasure or insect, a little icon of it should float over your head for a couple seconds. That's all.

Sometimes I think that they purposefully take things that people complain about and make it even worse just to spite us.

@carlosrox

You speak the truth. I can't mash A fast enough or hold it long enough to get through the copious amounts of superfluous text and dialogue. I'd upgraded all my equipment after getting the bow, and have since avoided getting most treasures if I didn't already collect them once in a session and I've been leaving the game on home-screen-pause to avoid having to see more fucking treasure/bug nonsense. We should have the option to change text speed, skip dialogue, or even walk away like some games started doing 20 years ago!!

EDIT: Also, I just died during the Thunder Dragon boss rush with only 3 bosses remaining, not because I actually got killed in combat, but I was trying to re-up on hearts during the 2nd Imprisoned fight and felt safe taking my sweet time because he's not hard, but he still managed to pull himself up the wall even though I hit him with the Groosenator and he destroyed the temple!! I am soooooooo pissed.

At least my wii was on like ten hours at a time during my first playthrough. Now I only want to play if I know I'll play a lot because of the text thing..
12/11/11, 10:35
Did you guys know that Jelly Blobs, though they may look like boring wads of gunk, can be used to make all sorts of things?

Because I sure know that now.

FOREVER AND EVER.

@stephen08
lol true dat

@stephen08

Every time I saw that message the one thought running through mymind was 'those look like little baby metroid things'.
12/11/11, 11:32
Since I upgraded everything I wanted to upgrade, I purposely avoided treasure to avoid that stupid ass text. And that's not even the worst part. Then you have to watch the game go into the inventory and add one more of the treasure you found in a painfully slow way.

UGH! It takes forever!

Sharpen up! Didn't they tell you at the academy that Knights have to be vigilant?

And having that repeated dialogue is not the worst part. The worst part is how slow the pathetic excuse for "scrolling text" is. Today I fired up Twilight Princess for the hell of it, was in Kakariko. I talked to a guy, he had quite a bit to say. Held A, tapped A, repeated. It was over in 3 seconds. It made me so sad.

So I lost my shield again in the fourth dungeon. Does that mean I have to go through the upgrade process again?? Ugh...I'm not equiping the shield anymore unless I have to.
12/11/11, 17:15
@Abdooooo

Yeah you have to unfortunately. But I didn't use shields very much at all till near the end of the game so I don't think you'll miss it for a while.
12/11/11, 17:19
@DrFinkelstein

Gotcha. Good thing I like to collect bugs n stuff. I'm usually more defensive in fights but I'll need to change my ways.
12/11/11, 17:54
@Abdooooo
Sounds like you're not doing the shield bash enough.

@GelatinousEncore
Oh god the inventory thing. Yeah, that's the most painful thing in Zelda history. Holy shit that's a dumb idea. The message isn't enough, we need to see the painfully slow forced inventory screen too?

Fuck, Nintendo. Stop insulting your audience.
12/11/11, 22:35
Yeah, that's a good word for it, insulting. I know we are not kids, but honestly how stupid does Nintendo think kids are? If I could beat Pokemon Silver and get all the legendaries in it at the age of 9, I'm sure kids today can see where the shit they collected goes for themselves. And let's not get into the hint system...

Actually, if they want to have a mandatory hint system, that's fine. I'd rather they gave you an option to turn it off, but if they want it in so badly, they could at least make it better. The hint system in SS is broken as hell. Fi holds your hand throughout the entire game, whether you want it or not, spoiling many puzzles. However, if you're stuck and go into Advice then Hint, she just says some non important shit about the place you're currently in.

Late in the game, I didn't know where to place that Red crystal thing, you know, the one that "belongs to a pair". I went into Hint, and Fi told me (I'm paraphrasing) "This is Skyloft. You can upgrade your items in the bazaar". Like, no shit.

But anyway the game is still very very awesome. I curse when I get frustrated by the way, sorry about that.

I have rage cursed numerous times because of how the game HAS TO stop and slowly show you when get a bug or relic that you already have 40 or 50 of.

And i ABSOLUTELY DO NOT want another full motion control Zelda. Nintendo can make the next one like that if they want but i will most certainly not buy it unless it has an option for a traditional controller. Frgging HATE motion controls for a game like this where combat and exploration are so prevalent. I deplore the controls but have very reluctantly accepted them. Wont do it again.

Same exact thing happened to me pretty much. I hit him with a super bomb while he was climbing toward the temple at the same time the stupid game went into a cutscene and the bomb hit didnt register...except honest to god he was the LAST boss i was facing before getting the hylian shield. I havent been that mad in a while. Actually that happened 3 times during that fight which is why i was so pissed.

I have nothing to add other than, despite not getting to sit down with this game for like over a week now, I am heading off to Canada tomorrow so I will not get a chance to play it again until AFTER I get back, around Christmastime.

I am sad. Canada should be fun though. And I will have a fair amount of free time when I get back so I can (hopefully) finally sink my teeth into the game more.

Okay, this is pretty awesome.

What's this have to do with SS?

Or was this in SS? First song sounds familiar.

Edit: This was in SS wasn't it?

@carlosrox

Haha, yeah. Those melodies are played at the Isle of Songs in Skyward Sword. It's really impressive that this guy recreated them with the ocarina in Majora's Mask.
