Alrighty everyone, the game is finally out in all primary regions.... IDreamofHime was the first to receive their copy here on the boards. This is the place to discuss it!!!

Welcome to the thread on Negative World where all wondrous Zelda talk can occur. I would recommend that if you wanna talk about deeper-game stuff as we get going, perhaps spoiler-tag it and then describe outside of spoilers where in the game it is. The recent Super Mario 3D Land Discussion Thread is a good example. That'll allow people who aren't too far to read the thread without actually spoiling stuff for them. Just try to be courteous but definitely have fun with the game and discussions!!

Have ye what it takes?

Be sure to hit up the Skyward Sword Game Page and add the game to your collection once you've received yours. Be sure to mark it as "Playing" while you work on it and after you're played it sufficiently, give it a score you deem fitting!

If you've beaten the game, click on over to roykoopa64's Skyward Sword story/ ending discussion (SPOILERS), and general thoughts thread! It's like this thread part deux!!

I have to wait another month as its a Christmas present. This makes me sad

Nintendo of Europe kicked so much ass in 2011 compared to NoA, it's a bit sad. They got pretty much every game a couple days earlier, plus more games/bundles/special editions of games we didn't even get.

I hate Europe.

That is all.

Wow, Gamespot. Wow.

@chrisbg99

Incredible video. Thank you for sharing!

And a team of over 100 people? Damn those are gonna be some long credits, lol.

@bryanee1983

Glad to hear it. Glad to know it takes a second to figure out how to beat it too. I love that challenge is happening so immediately in the game.

@carlosrox

Yeah! In a matter of hours now as friday nears for us, it definitely nears for them.

^^^^

I felt like a right tit that I didnt notice it straight away.

Oh and I played the demo. It was incredible. There is something about playing it for yourself that no video, picture, or trailer can even begin to emulate. Something about having control over Link is just magical. And I'm not saying it's just for this game, but probably any game. I felt like it's been so long since I've played a new Zelda game, and I'm not even one of those people who says that stuff often.

Some people on here have been saying it's been a long wait while I've thought to myself "these guys are crazy, I don't even feel very Zelda deprived" and I don't ever play the handheld ones either! And it's no secret how much I love TP and that I consider it the best Zelda game. So maybe it was my inner gamer realizing it's been a while since I got to control Link, and this is the next game after my favorite in my series. And I'm sure this was all subconscious but it was magical just holding the controller as I began to slowly walk around as Link. He controlled well, he controlled like he did in TP, and I had control over his Sword and Bow with my own hands. I was always scared the MP would suck (I've had very limited exposure to it, only played it briefly at a kiosk and a friend's place with WSR), but it didn't. It felt easy and intuitive as hell to use. I instantly sniped 3 bats that were hovering in the distance and impressed my brother with my skill/the precision of the controller.

I thought losing IR would really suck, but it controls almost exactly the same. I almost felt no difference. I say almost cuz I admit it didn't feel quite as good, but that was my very first time using MP and I was a little nervous. So, to get such success so early is a testament to the controls.
Also, I didn't feel like I had to SWING my entire arm to get a response, it responded to wrist strokes, which is awesome! I wouldn't mind putting forth more effort than that since it feels better to give a more committed swing, but I was in the middle of the store and felt a tad self conscious.

The visuals were surprisingly impressive. Link just looks awesome. I don't know why, but he does. I've seen BF3 on ultra, I've seen Skyrim, I've seen RAGE, but Zelda SS is still a looker. No "good for a Wii game" shit (I never believed that stupid censor btw), this looked beautiful. Period.

Couldn't speak on the music, but it's the same music we've heard from the demos a million times.

OH and combat. My god it felt AWESOME. It felt awesome to fight enemies that you ACTUALLY, FIGHT. The freakin' SPIDER was kicking my ass cuz I couldn't figure out to kill it. I'm pretty sure the way to beat it was to diagonal up swing so you knock it over onto its belly. I wasn't sure if that was the trick, but it seemed like it was. It was awesome to have to Bokoblins block my attacks, swing and hit me, and use some level of strategy. Then I fought the Stalfos. He didn't hit me once, but that doesn't mean it was easy (it was, but hear me out). It means I used strategy and timing to beat him. I worked around his defense, and defended against his attacks by dodging and backflipping. I beat him without taking a hit, and it was so rewarding.

The infamous "raise your shield" thing from Jimmy Fallon confused me. I thought to myself "what the hell is Reggie even talking about?". I guess everyone here is already aware but it's news to me. In Zelda TP Link always had his shield up, which sucked. In SS, you have to waggle your nunchuck to raise it. Then waggle again for the shield bash. This time, it feels like it actually works, while in TP I found myself struggling to do it at times. When you attack with your sword, he lowers his shield and you'd have to raise it again.
This was somehow all news to me, and it feels great having to think about offense and defense. Dual swiping nunchuk and remote does spin attack horizontally or vertically, depending on which way you do it of course. This felt awesome to do.

I then fought Ghirahim (sp?), and he was a ton tougher. I didn't remember the strategy exactly from the E3 videos, but it seems you have to attack him from the opposite direction his hand's facing. And moving your sword around to confuse him before you swing also seems to be a strategy. I sorta got stuck on him not knowing what to do, and I had to use 2 potions as I fought him! I eventually beat him when I finally understood what I was supposed to be doing, but again, it felt awesome to feel some sort of challenge in a Zelda game.

Demo was awesome. Game will be awesome. I now ride the hype the train. For sure. Time will tell if this will beat TP for me, but the challenge has gotten that much easier with this awesome demo.

ps. I didn't play the bird part. Didn't really care to. I'll admit I'm not a fan of that kind of motion control.

Sunday can't come soon enough...
11/18/11, 02:57
I am having such a weird calmness to this. I'm so so excited but I'm not feeling like Sunday is super far away or anything. I know it'll be here before I know it. Maybe it's cause I just turned 26 and time seems to move fast no matter what these days, or maybe it's Super Mario 3D Land keeping me oh so busy, or maybe it's life.... but it'll be here... and it'll be oh so glorious.
11/18/11, 03:10
@DrFinkelstein
I'm the same. I have not felt rabid hype for anything in a long time. Not like when I was a kid and I couldn't wait and I couldn't stand it. I'm very calm about my hype now, and have been for awhile now.

The least calm I've been recently has been for Dead Space 2. Mario 3D Land I was very much looking forward to, but I was very patient.

These waits are hardly a problem for me anymore. Very hyped for Zelda SS but I'm also very calm. Dunno if it feels good or not haha. I miss rabid child-like hype a bit.
11/18/11, 03:26
@carlosrox

I was the same with Super Mario 3D Land. So hyped but so calm, until I got in the car for the pickup. I was giddy as fuck. I bought a slurpee before hand, and I always put two straws in. I had to go with Red and Green to REPRESENT!!! lol It's a shame there's no such thing as a Gold Slurpee straw (as far as my 7-11s go).
11/18/11, 03:28
I think I was actually more excited for Mario than Zelda, not because I'm not excited for Zelda, but because I don't feel like I have the time to get involved in an epic quest right now, whereas Mario is easy to pick up and play in small bursts. Mind you, I have been playing it in pretty big bursts at times. But my ideal way to play Zelda is like 4 or 5 hours at a time, something I just can't do right now.

Still, I'll buy it day one and play it nonetheless.
11/18/11, 03:32
A guy at my work has the game already because he pirated, and is playing it on Dolphin, or rather he would be playing it if he had WM+.
11/18/11, 04:12
@Brick

The visuals on Dolphin don't look right, apparently. So at least there's that.

But fuck I hate pirates.
11/18/11, 04:25
I wish we knew if this game comes with a system update.
