The triforce is on their hands.

Something about digital paintings I don't like, they never quite evoke the same emotions as actual brushstrokes. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

My only minor critique is that I think he should have aged Link and Zelda down a little bit. They both look about 10 years too old. It really is fantastic to look at though.

@Marsh

Yes, I know what you mean, but to me, this artwork is a masterpiece because of its compositional layout and thematic design, on top of the detail and art style.

So while it would have been amazing if it was old-school hand-drawn, its digital nature does little to diminish its quality.

I don't mind the art style. It works really well for what it is, and it's not like Zelda's really had a consistent style throughout all the games anyway. In terms of keeping all the characters the same style, this seems like a reasonable artistic choice to make, and it's cool figuring out who's who in this take. Heck, some of them are particularly interesting design-wise (like Saria, the witches, and Chancellor Cole).

I really don't get the complaint about the faces though (I almost wrote that as feces for some reason).

Quite impressive. I too thought it would only be for Ocarina of time...until I scrolled down. Must be hell for those people still using low resolution monitors though, thank goodness for 1080p!

I especially love the moon heading straight down. It reminds me of all the damn times I died while trying to complete Majora's Mask as a child. I found the damn song to slow down time but I never used it.

Also,

Thought it'd be appropriate.

I do

Actually, if you look at it long enough you can see the triforce even in the characters themselves. Look at Link, Zelda, and Ganon again. The King above them is the top of the triforce. Link and Ganon are the bottom two corners. It even looks like their stances form triangles to make the triforce. Probably looking into it too much. Triangles are everywhere anyway.

I agree. The characters portrayed are still recognizable through the artist's detailed and expressive personal style. The additional touches done to the six sages are great as well.

I also finished watching the process on Youtube, and it was nothing short of educational and entertaining.

I cried. :(

I cried, knowing that no matter how long I continue to draw, I will never be as awesome as that guy. I hate it. So.... beautiful.... I have to start using Painter....

I really love how he drew Byrn, Linebeck, and some of the other WW-style characters. Ganondorf, Agahnim, Midna, and Ganon are all amazing as well. Incredible.

I also just love how the Happy Mask Salesman is just casually teetering on top of the giant horrible eldritch abomination eyeball (which I'm guessing is that tentacle boss thing from PH) like he does it every day. He's just too creepy.

My only complaint is that he forgot ERROR. An octorok or a few common enemies would have been nice too.

Also I was thinking I would want to see a bigger picture of Saria's neat little outfit there and I found this

This guys got 74 kinds style.

The drawing itself isn't that great as much as it is the actual painting. Drawing like that guy isn't that hard, tons and tons of people can and could draw like that. Painting like that takes tons of time and patience though, as well as knowing your color theory and all that very well.

Edit: The Ganon part at the bottom is especially noticable for lacking the polish the rest of the piece does. He's not untouchable (at least not completely, and especially on the drawing side). Ganon's face especially is pretty sloppy.

I know that, thats what I meant. I'm not an art major for nothing. I just rarely discern between the terms "draw" and "paint", I simply meant "I wish I could create artistic objects of this magnitude."

Truth is I can probably draw/sketch as well as him and come up with compositions like that, but as far as the actual digital painting, color, and shading, I'm left in the dust. Its more his speed, consistency, and knowledge/judgment/usage of lights and shadows that I admire more than his actual ability to draw.

I lol'd. I've been watching a lot of Man vs. Wild lately.

Incredible. So many characters are worked in there.
02/26/11, 22:40
I wouldn't even say that it's the drawing and painting that is the most impressive thing. I mean it's a good drawing, and it's rendered well. The composition of the whole thing is what is so striking to me. I wonder how long it took to do that? That's really the longest part. After the composition and drawing are done, then he more or less just goes through and puts all of the pieces of the puzzles together. I'd have to imagine he did some color studies to figure out how the whole thing would work together.

@PogueSquadron
The middle with all the side characters is just a jumble though. Not a fan of that part.

If you're interested you can actually purchase this art printed on silk here

@Abdooooo

As soon as you posted that I ordered it. 13x71 inches. Almost 6ft high! I just got it today. What a wonderful piece of art - it was shipped from Hong Kong in excellent condition - can't wait to hang it up..

That brings a huge problem for me though... How do I hang this SilkCloth artwork up?? How would I preserve it? What should I mount it on - if anything? I dare not put tacs in the corners...

what to do..what to do...
