I really hope the character pictures on the AR Cards represent games that will actually feature on the cards. My hype has been raised even more.

So is it like an e-reader sort of thing? The 3DS really does it all, huh?

Anyways, the Pikmin card would be the first one I'd test out!

Haha.

Anyway, it looks like the general purpose card (with the question mark) is categorized separately from the character cards on the manual, so that almost certainly means that the character cards will have unique purposes (probably an AR game for each one).

The only reason I can think of that would require unique AR cards is if two or more of them interacted.

Smash Brothers AR, OMG!!!!

They seem like a neat thing to mess around with at launch... wonder if they plan to keep making games and cards.

I would give someone a whoooooooole lot of money to have a Pokemon game where Pikachu (or more for me, Haunter or Squirtle) jumped out of a pokeball card on the table and ran around my room.

YES. PLEASE.

Pokemon AR is inevitable at this point. I just wonder how they're going to be rendered graphically. Cartoony? Or more Mario Galaxy style?

@warerare
Whoa. Is that old school Mario I see on the card?! When's the last time Nintendo showed his face? I LOVE old school Mario!!

Wow, its amazing how much more inviting AR games is now that Mario and company are part of it all.

@-JKR-

You're absolutely right! This would be a HUGE opportunity for them to resell their Pokemon cards. The game could just be you seeing your pokemon battle another pokemon off in the distance (maybe someone online!). Think Pokemon Battle Revolution using your 3DS camera and AR-Poke cards. Yeah!

@Hinph

Usually things like this are just helping with marketing at the beginning, with launch... but not sure if this could carry on - I don't see the lasting value of it.

@-JKR-

Fantastic. I want it now. Create it, I'll buy it. XD

Do the games on the cards have anything to do with the characters on the cards, or is that like... just a cool image.

That's freaking amazing, what a kick-ass pack-in. Awesome.

@Zero

Yeah, it's been confirmed. Each character card brings out the respective game character in the 'real world'. Of course, it's up to the specific game to decide how to use the characters. But having unique cards means that multiple cards can be used with the same camera, and regardless of where you place them, they would still be able to distinguish each character from one another.

Wait...

So this thing has Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Kirby AND Pikmin mini-games packed in?! Or do you just mean that the characters can be used in mini-games like Target and such?

What if you placed a Mario card down and a Link card down and they interacted with each other dynamically? Mind.Blown.
