Nintendo E3 2013 Wii U + 3DS: First Super Smash Brothers trailer + images

I have to warn you right now, we're spoiling two new playable fighters, so if you want to come into the new Smash Brothers totally clean well... good luck with that! It appears that the Wii U version is going with a style closer to previous Smash Brothers games (but in glorious HD), while the 3DS version is shooting for a more cell-shaded style?


New to the roster are "Villager" from Animal Crossing and Mega Man from, well, Mega Man!!! Oh man. I can already tell you that the second one is going to be one of my main fighters.

Both Smash Brothers games are due in 2014.

I'm really curious about that. I'd place money on Sonic returning (especially after the recent partnership with Sega), but I'm not so sure about Snake. I hope he does, because he's quite an interesting fighter, and I love the character in general. But if they got rid of him to make room for another Konami character like Simon Belmont? Ok...

I'm hoping there are more third party characters this time. 5 or 6 would be nice.

I think Snake is probably out. Pac-Man and/or a Tekken/Soul Calibur character are probably in. Namco does the Tales games, right? Maybe a character from that.

I'm not feeling Namco's franchises. Tekken, Tales, and SC are fairly big series, but hardly on the level of Sonic, Mega Man, or even Metal Gear (and the latter was a favor to Sakurai). I'm not sure Sakurai is going to just open the gates because Namco's helping him out; he seemed to be pretty restrictive on third-parties in SSB when talking about Mega Man in the video.

I could maybe see Pac-Man, but then we have the whole problem of his goofy arm-and-leg design.

Maybe Pac-Man as a stage then. That would be cool.

Speaking of stages, I guess Little Mac is playable given that there is a boxing ring as a stage...

Tales of Symphonia was a decently popular game on the GameCube, especially in Japan. So, I could see Lloyd being a rep for Namco. I think Pac-Man is going to show up somewhere though, if not a fighter in Smash then a racer in Mario Kart.

Game is looking like it'll be awesome. Which is what I'd expect out of this franchise. I'm loving the cel-shading look for the 3DS version. Speaking of the 3DS version...since that exists, I'm not sure what the point of the Wii U version is. At least, for me.
