Another non-surprise, but it was still nice to get our first glimpse at the upcoming Mario Kart 8 for the Nintendo Wii U. The trailer shows off the return of bikes, as well as hover cars that ride along roller-coaster like tracks! Is this Mario Kart, or F-Zero?!

Mario Kart 8 is currently slated for a Spring 2014 release.

Check out the trailer below, and stay tuned for more media and details on Mario Kart 8!

Watching the video yet again, and getting just as excited, it dawned on me that some of those levels (like the castle and the town) are exactly what I'd love to see in a 3D Mario game. Give me THOSE places to explore. How amazing would that be?

But whatever, I'll race through them if that's what you're offering me Nintendo. You can have my money.

I feel many people will be in the camp of this being Nintendo's most gorgeous game, and that 3D Mario should be up to par.

Oh well, next true 3D Mario I think.

Behold! How the hell is this looking so good?

A little reminder of DK being made of 5 polygons on Wii.

Damn, that looks really good.

Is there any place to download an uncompressed trailer? Because it looks crazy good graphically, too. Like, is that top shot in the OP in-game or CG? YouTube compression is killing me.

Did they say there'd be more multiplayer modes? That's what I thought I heard. Something different than the usuals of Grand Prix, Versus, Battle and Time Trials?

Holy crap gorgeous. Best looking thing on Wii U other than maybe X. Wasn't expecting it to look nearly this good after MK Wii looked kind of crappy if you looked closely.

I don't care much for Mario Kart anymore, but the gravity thing looks like a decent shakeup. Hopefully it shakes things up more than the underwater and gliding portions did in 7.

Fantastic..looks like they combined a bit of F-Zero in with Kart.

@achhibbar

5-polygon-Kong FTW!

Game looks really good, both in (off-screen) motion and in pics.

This was easily my favorite game of Nintendo's E3. I can't wait and I wish it was coming out this year.

Looks awesome, I'm looking forward to playing it.

Nintendo really should have tried to get this game in the launch window. I think a lot if the Wii U's sales woes would have been fixed by this game being there around launch. I can tell you that I personally would have bought the system by now.

So are we in agreement that this is the best looking Wii U title to date?

I certainly think so.

Yeah it's looking beautiful! I wish Mario looked this good.

I predicted it, but it actually reminds me a lot of how Nintendo Land looks.

@New Forms

I'd say Bayonetta 2 personally, but I think this is the best-looking from their internal studios for sure. Looks fantastic!

@New Forms

One of them if not the best. Though if I were to look at the trailers all again, yeah probably the best. X looks great and so does Smash... but Smash is best obviously with the FMV. The graphics look a little higher than brawl but not MK8 good.

I loved the trailer.
I loved the game.
I hated the release date.

Nintendo really should have worked harder to make sure it was out this year to compete with the consoles. This was one of their biggest sellers on the Wii and the bundles it was in sold it to families. I am sure it will do fine next year but it would have been better this year.

@Pokefreak911

I think a new mario/hd wind waker/DKC trifecta will do them fine, but I wish I was playing Holiday Mario Kart too. I hope Spring means April!

@DrFinkelstein
Mario Kart would have sent it over the top though. Which is what Nintendo needs after a disappointing launch.

This looks really fun, but the graphics are too bloomy and reminiscent of Mario Kart Wii for me. And it still has frigging 12 players. It had better run at 60 fps at ALL times. I also wish that they had removed underwater.

Currently watching the Konno video on the Wii U. He says they're shooting for a solid 60fps, but then he says in TWO-PLAYER mode. Why, Kamiya, whyyyyy??!!

Mario Kart Wii launched in April 2008, so the release is of no surprise to me. I was actually kinda glad it's spring, I think it's a sign this one isn't being rushed to market.
