Although we knew that a 3D Mario game was on the way for the Wii U, little did we know that it would be a sequel to Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS. The Super Mario 3D World trailer shows off some, including 4 player co-op and a... cat suit?

But don't listen to me, watch the trailer below!

Super Mario 3D World is due out in December 2013, just in time for the holidays! Stay tuned for more details!

Some more information from GoNintendo:

- when working on Super Mario 3D Land, they thought multiplayer would be great
- this didn't make the cut for the 3DS
- they felt the power of Wii U could help them achieve this
- is influenced by the eccentric and wild levels designs from the Galaxy
- won't comment on story yet

@PogueSquadron
I think the problem is you have seen people play it at Best Buy.
I saw people play it too and I didn't fall for it until I played the game myself. Heck, I went on both available Nintendo Experience days just to get a bit more time in with this game (I also got some quality time in with Kart and DK).

It's fun! I had a smile on my face the whole time I played the various levels.

@Zero
Mario 64 DS didn't have simultaneous multiplayer within the main game. Just the battle mode (which was simple fun indeed).

My doubts have been washed away watching the Gamexplain 8min video showing SO much more of this game.

Fuck a Mario Galaxy.

(I now also have faith the graphics and level design will be fucking BOSS)

I sincerely think Nintendo just doesn't know how to show off their games. It seems every game they showed at E3 seemed a tad disappointing til people saw more footage of it, or in person. It's like Nintendo doesn't know how to give their own games justice.

Every single game I've had to "discover" on my own through various Youtube vids. I doubted every Wii U game. Kinda reminds me of the Nintendo Land fiasco and how Nintendo revealed that one. Then people realized the game was better than initially expected. And I was one of those people.

It's like Nintendo doesn't know how to show how awesome their games are. I mean that literally, as well. Where are the high res screens? High res videos? No screens or videos (especially the videos) show how gorgeous these games look. What's with all the low quality stuff? These games look awesome in person. I dunno why their trailers are all safe. They don't show the BEST things about these games in their own trailers!

My two cents.

@carlosrox

Nintendo probably doesn't want to give away too much with their reveals. They want the players to find/discover the awesome stuff on their own.

Besides, do we really need to be convinced that Nintendo is making a very fun and enjoyable Super Mario game? I think at this point, we can just assume that's the case. I mean, right?

@GameDadGrant That's how it is for me. The term "spoilers" takes on a whole new meaning for Mario games; seeing all the new levels and such is a spoiler!

Damn. Not the super Mario universe I was expecting but it looks so damn fun. Plus my prediction of multiplayer in3d Mario came true! Cat suit is adorable.
