@ZeroThe "meow meow" noise they make when they first pick up the power-up? That's probably one of my favorite things about E3, on par with Sony checking Microsoft on their bullshit and Mega Man being shown in Smash. This game should probably end up putting 3D Land to shame. It seems like they are hinting that 3D Land branched off of this game... likely whipped up by Brownie Brown on a time constraint. Also, has any footage surfaced yet of the Frog Suit? IGN claimed that it's in there, and I want to see its glorious return. Hopefully they go all out on the power-ups. Power-ups good, the more the better.

Not sure if this has been shared here, but Koji Kondo is back composing for Mario, alongside Mahito Yokota of Super Mario Galaxy/Skyward Sword fame. This game will sound fucking awesome.

Hopefully Kondo composes more than a track or two, as he seems to have been doing. Talented composers should never become "supervisors," god dammit. They should compose. I'm not into the Japanese style of promotion.

@HinphIn a way I agree with you, because Kondo is a friggin' genius, and I'd love to hear more stuff from him than we've gotten the last ten years, but at the same time Nintendo needs someone to make sure the new composers manage to capture the true Mario/Zelda feel, the same way Miyamoto needs to oversee new producers and directors.

@r_hjortDoes that really tell us anything? I haven't heard anything special so far musicwise... I'm sort of expecting a NSMB-esque experience.

@carlosroxI haven't actually listened to anything yet, but I like Kondo's style, so if he writes a few songs for this game I know I'll be happy. That being said, I expect something along the lines of NSMB as well, 'cause I don't think they have developed that particular style for nothing, but with both Kondo and Yokota on board there is plenty of room for catchy harmonies and pretty arrangements.

@nate38I'm plenty happy. I think we'll get both, it's just it will be a while before the open-world Mario 64 style one. Another generation or two? Who knows. No worries either way! :)

I missed this title on the crappy feed. So glad I watched the trailer. It looks like so much fun.

@r_hjortYeah, I can see what you mean. Based on that Iwata Asks, Kondo's guidance did whip him into shape on how to compose Mario music. He's good... but, man, Kondo's compositions still stick out. I just wish he would do more while he is still at Nintendo.

Kondo and Yokota seem like a great one-two punch for this game's soundtrack, but the music doesn't amaze me yet. Honestly, if they aren't going the grandiose/Mario Galaxy route, I'd at least like them to get a full jazz band assembled for the game songs. Something that sounds like this is still appropriately bouncy and Mario, but fully awesome as well. And hey, that's a Kondo + Yokota song too!

@HinphAgreed. Hopefully he'll be able to do more composing once the noobs have learned what's up. @TriforceBunI don't think the majestic production of Super Mario Galaxy would fit the smaller, less ambient worlds very well, but I'd weep salty tears of joy if they got the full jazz band setup going.

@r_hjortYup! I think a smaller scale jam band style is more appropriate for this sort of Mario game, now that we're back in the Mushroom Kingdom... I hope that they still do live instrument recording where appropriate. It even enhances the older compositions in the series.

@ZeroOh, I already spoiled it up above. *shrugs* I think that anybody who is in this thread should be prepared for such things, though. If it's announced at E3, it's fair game! Makes me very happy. The more suits and power-ups, the better!

Lack of online is absolutely inexcusable. Is it going to take Nintendo until 2014 and MK to have one of their Wii U games be online? Aside from that, this game looks great. Once I get a Wii U I will be picking this up for sure.

I fired up 3D Land today thinking I should remind myself of the design and that there were probably a couple of secret levels I hadn't unlocked... I found I hadn't even finished World 7. I guess I stopped playing it last year when my health went screwy and then completely forgot to pick it up again. Cool! :p

@StephenThis. It's the job of first parties to maximize all the features of the hardware wherever possible. If they don't, why would they expect anyone else to?

Like Galaxy was ever a real 3D mario. It's just been immune to criticism because oh my megazords you can walk upside down to good music. 3DLand after Galaxy was nice since it got back to the basics, actually. 3DWorld can best galaxy, but it won't touch Mario 64/Sunshine.
