I see this as a pure business move for Ninty. I'm with Achi. This ain't the end of Mario on Wii U. My main issue is the graphics, to be honest. And the gameplay might not lend itself to OUT there gameplay ideas, but still really good Mario stuff. I'm pleased, plus all the other games look great too. I can't complain too much. For me Megaman and Mario Kart stole the show for me. Mario Kart looks how I dreamed.

I'm looking forward to playing this, and I'm also looking forward to the day we get a real Mario 3D sequel to Mario 64 and Sunshine. Something with WORLDS again, instead of just levels. Galaxy was close, but not the same feel as the other two, which were my favorites. 4 player is going to be all sorts of fun! And that Cat Suit seems awesome.

I think we'll still get Mario Universe someday. This looks very fun for now. Maybe a little hot on the heels of NSMBU though.

@-JKR- CRAZY TALK. Seriously, I swear by Galaxy. ...Kind of ashamed to say I have yet to play Galaxy 2 yet though. Just... time. I don't have as much as I used to. Strangely enough my favorite of the 3D Mario games, even though not technically better is.... Mario Sunshine. Er, on topic: looks fun and I get why people who were looking for an Epic Mario are disappointed. Still this looks better than the "New"-hashes, and I get to play as Peach again (also the return of different skills for each character)... I'm sold.

@DynabladeI also love Sunshine. It isn't perfect, but it at least broke some molds and tried new things. Yes please! If you enjoyed Galaxy you owe it to yourself to play Galaxy 2. I enjoyed Galaxy. Not my favorite, but fun. I thought Galaxy 2 blew it out of the water in EVERY way. I ADORED Galaxy 2. Brilliant. Carve out the time, you won't be disappointed! EDIT: Alright, now that I've calmed down a little and rewatched the video, that DOES look like a whole lot of fun and maybe the levels are spread out a little more than I thought initially. I will give it a shot.

Couple of points about tablet use: - use touch screen to freeze enemies and objects - touch moving platforms to stop them - invisible coins and blocks hidden everywhere - touch these spots to see blocks appear

I'm pretty excited, 3D Land is probably my favorite 3DS game. I'd definitely be more excited for Galaxy 3, possibly by a fair margin, but what can you do? I think that this game will be mad fun, and it will be coming right around when Shirley is finally coming back home, and she really took to 3D Land, so... it'll be fun to get to play that style of game together! At first a sequel to 3D Land on the Wii U seemed very odd to me, but if you recall, 3D Land was Nintendo's attempt to merge 2D and 3D gameplay styles together, because the "weak" sales of the Galaxy games (next to the NSMB games) was sort explained by teh casualz being turned off by pure 3D gaming. And then 3D Land sold like a billion copies (it's almost definitely going to pass Galaxy in sales when all is said and done) so Nintendo probably thought "this is what people really want!!!" We'll see how it does on the consoles.

So count me as one of those that felt really underwhelmed when I first saw this. I was expecting something far different. Nintendo never ceases to throw me a curve ball though. After digesting the reveal and actually watching stuff like this developer interview, I have to say I'm getting pretty excited for it. I know the grandness of something like Galaxy is awesome but this new Mario is looking really good. It's just something I was totally not expecting. Graphically, it's actually quite beautiful and having the ability to play as four different characters with distinctive attributes is great. A multi-player Mario with unique characters? Seems like it'd be a lot of fun too me. If this is the direction they want to take Mario, I'll just have to trust them because after all it's the gameplay that's most important for Mario. I can just imagine sitting down and playing with a big smile. I think the more we see of this game, the better it'll get. It's the next big console Mario game after all, not like they won't bring their A game.

That's what I was thinking... perhaps it isn't ready yet and this is an easier hold-over. We're likely to get at least one more big 3D Mario game in the lifespan of this thing.

This makes it look much better: Dev DirectCamera control is back with the gyroscope in the tablet! Nice! I hope they allow for camera control with the second analog too on the classic controller. As long as the levels are nice and big, I think I'll enjoy this a lot more than I thought a few hours ago.

It does look great when we can actually see it in HD. *sigh* Still no word on online multiplayer. I need friends.

Anyone holding their breath for the "real" 3D Mario, you might as well let go. This is the next main Mario game for a while.

Wait a tick. The 3D in "3D Land" was referring to the stereoscopic 3D of the system. This name makes no sense!

So extra players use wiimotes. You know what that means. Controlling a 3D Mario on a console with a d-pad. lol.

@RenjakuSurely they have to have pro controller and/or wiimote + nunchuck options right?

Hell, I loved 3D Land. If this one is more refined and has more content, I may even end up liking it more than the Galaxy games. Mixing the 2D and 3D elements together is good shit, and the muliplayer+multiple characters is sweet. I guess it's just that we all usually expect big, new concepts with new console Mario games... but he explains that away. 3D Land actually branched off of this one and not the other way around. Hopefully it has a lot more powerups that they aren't showing. ... and it's a real shame that they didn't put online multiplayer in.
