Could be good. So basically, sonic is now exclusive to Nintendo systems. This is huge for Nintendo and the Wii U.

I can't make out if this 'franchise partnership' is a BIG deal, or just a Sonic and The Secret Rings/Black Knight sized deal.

@InfinitywaveI thought there was a Sonic game announced at some point that was supposed to come to all next-gen consoles like PS4 and such, but I could be making that up.

Pretty exciting news. I wonder if NA will get these games months after everyone else?

@Jargon, I think everyone was assuming Lost World would be multi-platform. That's the one that was rumored to have the working title Sonic Adventure 3.

Big news for the Sonic fans out there I suppose, but I would rather see Nintendo try to cater to third parties that have "technical difficulties" when porting their code over to the Wii U.

I'm too lazy to post the Sonic cycle image. I just... it's hard to get excited about Sonic. Although supposedly Colors was pretty solid.

@ZeroColors and Generations were both a huge improvement over the other recent Sonic games.

After playing Generations, I'm excited about this game. I wonder if Nintendo will have any creative input, because that could only help these games.

@anon_mastermind Curling! Just two days ago my husband was scorching the walls while playing Generations. We both find it difficult in some 3D Sonic games to figure out what exactly is going on. Still, I'm sure I'll keep my eye on this one.

Does Nintendo really need another colorful, mascot-based platformer in addition to it's Mario, Kirby, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong games? Seems to me they need to diversify their offerings to appeal to more gamers, but instead they're just doubling down on a market segment they already own. Oh well, wish them all the luck, maybe this will make the old-school Dreamcast fans stand up and take notice. Wii U/Dreamcast 2?

@deathly_hallowsJust yesterday you wrote a very smart post about how lots of popular first person shooters seem the same to outsiders but are actually quite different. I think you can say the same about all of those platformers you mentioned above. More variety within that group could attract a wider audience, that same as a variety of shooters can.

@JargonI don't type fast enough. I was just going to say that. We'll know more when we see some gameplay. To me, Sonic games have always felt and worked differently from Nintendo's platformers.

Good news for Nintendo, but I think it's a bad move on Sega's part.

@JargonWell there is a difference between having variety within a genre, and having variety of genres within an entire library. Ideally a good console has both, but right now Nintendo is especially weak in the latter so if I was them I'd focus on fixing that aspect first. Just my 2 cents. PogueSquadron said:Good news for Nintendo, but I think it's a bad move on Sega's part. That really depends on what kind of compensation Nintendo is giving them. I'd love to know the details of this deal! I'm always curious about how stuff like this happens.

@PogueSquadronI don't see how, the sales of Sonic games are usually higher on Nintendo systems than on PS3 and 360 combined. This move makes way more sense than Generations skipping the Wii.

@deathly_hallowsMy guess is that Sega was willing to do this because Sonic games have traditionally sold the best on Nintendo platforms. Do you think Nintendo could secure exclusive rights to any big "core" games? Something like Bayonetta 2 was only possible because the original underperformed. @GuillaumeThat's still a lot of sales they are sacrificing. This might be a great move, if Sega got the right incentive, or it could be a desperate attempt by a company that hasn't been in very good shape financially.
