Looks fun to me. I'm definitely a fan of James Rolfe's DIY approach to filmmaking and stuff. If it indeed comes to Wii U, I'll pick it up.

Yeah, count me as a fan of this as well. I'm afraid to watch the trailer at work, but...AVGN = funny. I'm sure this is no exception.

I think the game looks so-so, but I'll support it if I can. James Rolfe and his enthusiasm is something I want to see more of. Can't wait to see the full-length AVGN movie.

I like all of the nods to classic games Mega Man! Majora's Mask! Silver Surfer?! but I hope it goes beyond just aping them.

It looks all right, if not pretty simple. I do enjoy the nods to other games, but that's becoming part and parcel with a good amount of indie fare nowadays. I generally enjoy AVGN so shall keep my eye on this.

I laughed at him snowboarding on a dead Santa, then felt bad about it.

Haha, looks like a nice nod to Mega Man and Castlevania (and maybe other games he's reviewed). I thought of Silver Surfer as well haha. I'd definitely be down for this one. @ploot In this case at least, I don't know if you could have an AVGN game without references to the many games he's reviewed.

References in an AVGN game are to be expected, I suppose, but I get sceptical about reference humor these days. If it's just a matter of cramming references whenever possible it feels pointless, to me. I know a lot of people praised Retro City Rampage and all the pop culture references in there, but much of it just felt like it was there for the sake of being there. Get off my lawn.

I always consider referential humor to be the absolute laziest humor there is. "Hey this existed and I can mention it, perhaps even in context!" Ugh. But I think if James Rolfe has any personal input on the game there'll be plenty of original humor. I hope at least.

@r_hjortDid people praise the references in Retro City Rampage? The podcasts I listened to seemed to mostly be annoyed by them. One of them coined a term for games, books or movies that make references to old stuff gratuitously, just to say "hey guys, remember this? eh?". They'll call such a thing a retrocity (pronounced like "atrocity"). From it you can derive "retrocious", etc.

@GuillaumeMaybe my perception of the game's reception is skewed? I hope it is! I think references can be fun, if they serve some higher purpose. I enjoy old spoof movies like Airplane! and so on, but they did more than just re-produce iconic content, like, say, the Scary Movie series. "Retrocity" is a damn fine word for it, I must say! Gonna use that from now on.

The difference between good referential humor and bad referential humor is the difference between the Simpsons and the Family Guy. Like the episode where Bart gets Milhouse on the FBI Most Wanted List. That in itself is funny. Then later on they return to the joke referencing The Fuigitive which makes it even more funny. Family Guy just references things devoid of context.

I think the referencing here is just used for a basis for the gameplay. It's both referencing his show and the games he's reviewed on it. So there will be a level like Castlevania 2 (and who knows, maybe a joke about the blocks that you randomly fall through). I expect those kind of funny little nods. Maybe we'll get a "What a horrible night to have a curse" text scroll. Just things like that. I think it'll be awesome for any AVGN. These references are more like homages to the awful games he's reviewed. I wouldn't expect an AVGN game to be any different.

I think the Angry Video Game Nerd is really cool, and I'm absolutely looking forward to playing his game. I'm also avidly anticipating his AVGN film he's making

@PogueSquadronOh, I agree that there should be references in there but the whole idea just isn't as fresh as it once was. Also, there seem to be references to games that aren't in his review catalogue (did he review Mega Man 2 and Majora? Those games are GOOD). Of course, having Dick Tracy, Roger Rabbit, Simon's Quest etc. references would work well! I have a feeling it'll work out.

Yeah, that looked awesome. @GuillaumeYeah, that was pretty brutal. @r_hjort@Xbob42Ehhh..Old Spice does this with their games explicitly, and they end up being some of the most hilarious things.
