Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Yep, I downloaded it just a little bit ago! It scared me at first, saying it was going to take 58 minutes, but that number soon plummeted, and I ended up getting done in about 30 minutes or so. I didn't really take any time to mess around with anything after that, but it did seem a little quicker just when moving through menus and stuff like that.

Downloading now.

I really think something might be wrong with my Wii U. There's constant connection problems that I don't get on any of my other devices.

Downloaded but haven't had much time to check how much faster it is.

Took about a half hour, and it's definitely quicker.

The only game I tried after updating was Kirby, and if anything it took longer to get from the Plaza to the loading screen. It was frozen for at least 10-15 seconds, long enough to make me think I would have to unplug the console. I don't like this.

@Guillaume

Hmm, I tried Punch Out!! and it was much faster starting and even more fast returning to the menu after I quit.

@Jargon

Do your games reside on the onboard memory? All my stuff goes to my external HDD by default, I believe.

edit - I just tried Punch-Out!!, and I had time to count to 12 before the load screen came up. And I forgot to count for 4-5 seconds at the beginning.

All these updates sound good! Now just to patch in voice chat for online games, and the Wii U will be ready for launch!

I haven't downloaded the update myself yet, but I feel like I'm hearing more issues with it than anything else. Hard locks, longer loading times, etc. Bleh.

@GameDadGrant At least the Wii U had an eShop at launch

Did anyone else notice that not only did the Wii U get updated, but the GamePad did as well? Any idea what it did?

@VofEscaflowne
I noticed that because the gamepad update failed the first time. I have no idea what it did though.

I thought it was a Miiverse thing with the undo/redo thing. Could also just be a more stability update.

I'm just happy that my screen just FITS MY TV NOW YAY!

This. The black on the sides bothers me a little bit, but I'm happy that I can see the whole screen.

@GameDadGrant

Before you go there again (which I know that you're kidding), there are more Wii U games with voice chat than 3DS games with voice chat. Just sayin'.

@Guillaume

What kind of external HD are you using? Mine was significantly faster with both onboard apps (like the eShop and Browser) and games on my external HD (Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Rayman Legends Challenges App).

@Guillaume

Ah, that must be it because I don't use a HDD. Can you choose what is stored where?

Does this mean that we can finally backup save files to a USB device? I'll have to try it out later.

@Jargon

Downloads will automatically go to the HDD, but you can always move stuff over to the internal memory.

@DeputyVanHalen

Yeah it failed on me too. I was confused what was going on cause after that, it resumed a download and I thought it was for the Wii U itself.

@Smerd

Well that's an update to Miiverse. I don't think the GamePad would require an update for changes done to Miiverse as we've gotten several changes to it already without having to download anything. I'll have to check if the range is increased because mine is absolutely crap in here for some reason.

I like how the update does go faster for the menus now but it's also as if they sort of mask it, though not so obviously, by quickly returning to the menu but then dimming the screen and having a bit of loading before you can actually do anything. It doesn't always happen though. Ah well, it's still definitely quicker than what it was before. Quitting NES software was so slow!

@VofEscaflowne

A range increase would be great!

And yeah, the gamepad update also failed on me the first time..when I retried, the update jumped to 80% and started again.. I thought it was because I had my laptop inbetween the gamepad/Wii U so I moved the gamepad closer to the system and away from the wifi laptop.

Same here. My brother tells me it failed and my first thought was.

"OH CRAP I BRICKED IT!"

Luckily that was not the case.
