Yeah, I saw this number elsewhere and wondered how it compared with previous games. It seemed like a good number for Fire Emblem in the US, but I wasn't sure without a comparison point. This would explain why the game was tough to find, because Nintendo produced numbers in line with previous games' sales. I hope they still plan to produce the game for a while, though. I wouldn't mind trying the game out, but don't want to pay very much for it.

I'm surprised Shadow Dragon sold 250k honestly. I hope Awakening sells enough that Nintendo keeps printing it so I can eventually score a copy for $20 or so. I got Shadow Dragon about four months after launch for half price. Looks like Awakening might actually be pretty rare though...

Good to hear for Fire Emblem! It certainly was the first game in the series I picked (although ignoring it for this long was probably foolish on my part). I still wonder if the number would be a good bit higher if the game could actually be...y'know, found in stores. I had to seriously scour for my copy and the birthday gift for a friend.

I was gonna buy Etrian Odyssey IV today, but after playing the Fire Emblem demo again I decided to get it instead. @Mop it upDon't make me buy this game (digitally) for you just to get you to play it.

I'm gonna pick the game up this summer sometime. If the price goes up I think I'd be OK spending a little extra for a game of this quality. Wouldn't want a full retail game in digital version. I don't like spending more than $15 for a game I can't control access to in the future.

@NinSageThis is why all digital-distribution networks should emulate Steam :D Have yet to play it (obviously) but this is grand news.

@GameDadGrantPersonally, I almost never use Steam. I've only made one actual purchase on the platform. However, I think your comment is literally the first time I've seen someone speak ill of it. What happened in your experience? Also, my best wishes that the internet as a whole doesn't swoop in and eviscerate you for what you said =) You're too good a guy for that to happen.

Don't talk shit about Steam. I'll never buy a game on a PC at a brick and mortar store again. That said, good for Fire Emblem!! I'm glad I chose this one to be the first one in the series I've ever played. Makes me feel foolish for not trying the series earlier. I'm also glad I got a digital copy of the game. Now that I've beaten the game once, I can just hop into my second run-through any time I feel like, skip all the talking, and get right to the fighting. This is also one of the first games in a VERY long time that I've started an immediate 2nd playthrough right after finishing. For my second run-through, I chose Hard difficulty, but Casual style. I'm glad I did. It's so much harder to keep guys alive on hard.

So it's good for Nintendo to not have their maximum sales potential tied to a limited number? Weird.

Good for it. The best in the series thus far, and I'm glad sales in the US are reflecting that. No idea how much the game cost to localize, but assuming a $40 price tag for every game sold, it's brought in over $7 million. That's not factoring in DLC either. Not a bad chunk of change. @Mop it upDon't be a cheapskate. It's worth $40. Buy it man!
