Wait, I thought smart phones were supposed to kill dedicated handheld systems? The industry analysts lied to me!

@GameDadGrant Well to be fair, the handheld versions of Angry Birds haven't sold anywhere near the same as the smartphone versions, heh. I think it just comes down to certain games will perform better on certain platforms. This game is essentially a Mega Man game. And it needs a digital pad and buttons. I never played the other versions, but I can't imagine it works too well on those platforms.

While I'm glad this game has stood out on the eShop, I do wish it stood out a little less, haha. We should be getting games like Mutant Mudds and Gunman Clive every other week! And the weeks we don't get them, we should be getting Game Boy games.

Wish there was a version with a labeled Y axis.

@Kal-El814 2 copies to 5 copies to 6 copies. That's it.

That's awesome. Would like to see more mobile games come to 3DS. Tactile controls + 3-D + same cheap price = Win.

@deathly_hallows I vaguely remember some comment awhile back from Bertil that suggested that he thought it was worth more and wanted to charge more, but that $2 was basically the only reasonable selling point on smartphones and he didn't want to lose price parity on the 3DS. Which is interesting because a lot of developers move to the eShop and jack up the price. I wonder how he feels about the $2 price now? To be honest, not to negate all of the hard work that he put into it, but considering it is about an hour long versus say... the 15 hours that I just spent on Fluidity: Spin Cycle, $2 seems about right.

@ZeroWell based on it becoming the best-selling version I'd assume he feels pretty good. For better of for worse gamers don't respond well to price hikes when games move platforms. Remember Orcs & Elves on the DS? That's a great game but nobody bought it because it cost $30 when it was like $6 or $7 on cellphone, and id/EA ending up taking a bath on it and Carmack vowed to never support a Nintendo handheld again.

@ZeroAlso to be fair, Angry Birds came out back in 2009, and the 3DS RETAIL-ONLY trilogy is several times more expensive than the App Store version(s). Even if you bought each game individually. I wonder what would happen if the Angry Birds games were available on the eShop, for $2 a pop? deathly_hallows said:Carmack vowed to never support a Nintendo handheld again. Did he really say that?!?

@GameDadGrantI recall Cut the Rope was in the Top 10 for eShop sales, ahead of lots of Nintendo stuff, so it's definitely possible for mainstream iOS stuff to do well on the eShop.

@Guillaume*shrugs* I personally don't care that much, but I would think a DS or 3DS version of a Quake or DOOM game would make certain kinds of gamers happy. Maybe? Or are those games so "old hat" now, no one cares anymore? I'm really out-of-touch when it comes to today's gamer's tastes in the FPS genre. @JargonAgreed. I'm still confused why Angry Birds Trilogy is retail-only. Any ideas?

Guillaume said:Is that a big loss? RAGE on iPhone was shit. I think it is, I love id games. I'd kill for Orcs & Elves 3 on the 3DS, or Castle Wolfenstein (my 2010 GOTY, fuck everyone that game was great!) PS: Angry Birds Star Wars is awesome. @GameDadGrantYeah, he was pissed about it flopping, saying that only Nintendo games sell on Nintendo platforms, conveniently ignoring that they were charging $30 for a game heavily associated with cellphones and known to cost sub $10.

@deathly_hallowsThat's disappointing. Carmack didn't seem like a bad guy, but saying that is just DUMB.

Good for him! Hope this gets more indies on the platform. I was waiting for a lull, but I picked up his game to celebrate. Let's see how long it stays wrapped on my home screen... @Kal-El814Haha, that might get him in trouble, though. @GameDadGrantDOOM GBA was alright.
