Something must have gone sour between Nintendo and Ubisoft. Not even a timed exclusive, that's a massive delay.

UBISOFT®'S RAYMAN LEGENDS NOW COMING TO XBOX 360® AND PLAYSTATION 3®

London, UK - February 7th, 2013 - Today, Ubisoft announced that its forthcoming title Rayman Legends, already announced for the Wii UTM system from Nintendo, will also be released on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. All versions will now hit shelves in early September 2013.

The Microsoft Xbox 360® and Sony PlayStation® 3 versions of Rayman Legends are being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the same team behind the Nintendo Wii UTM game. Rayman Legends has been praised for its stunning visuals and innovative gameplay by media around the world and labeled as one of the most anticipated platformers of 2013.

"We heard from many Xbox & Playstation owners and Rayman fans who told us they really wanted to play Rayman Legends on their current system", says Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA Chief Marketing & Sales Officer. "We decided to give the fans what they wanted while at the same time broadening the audience exposed to this innovative and memorable game."

Rayman Legends retains the fantasy appeal of its predecessor while adding a multitude of clever and entertaining gaming modes, new characters, new environments and a new soundtrack. The award-winning team of artists, designers and composers from Origins has also returned with an advanced UbiArt engine to include multi-dimension gameplay elements, an improved lighting system and updated game rendering that elevate Rayman's graphics to the next level.

Awful.

So, yeah, if they delayed the game just to go multiplatform simultaneously, fuck Ubisoft, and if they homogenize the gameplay so that it'll be the same on all platforms, double-fuck Ubisoft, and if they delayed it JUST to homogenize the gameplay... I think you all see where I'm going here.

Assuming that IS what happened, what a dumb move. On par with the stupidity of announcing the RE4 port just BEFORE it hit the Gamecube. You're negating its value as an exclusive system-seller AND hurting your own short-term sales. And what is the benefit, exactly? I don't think people would've minded if it came out on Wii U now and was announced for PS360 later. In fact, I'm sure most of us were expecting exactly that.

Yeah, I just can't see the benefit at all on this.

That's the thing; the WiiU version, exclusive features and all is at this point almost, if not fully, complete. The delay makes me worried that all of the WiiU version's extra features will be removed; because I honestly don't see any other logical reason for delaying complete code from going gold, especially when you've told all your distributors, partners and marketing to expect this game to be out on this specific date.

Ugh, if that were seriously the case... man, I don't even know what to say...

Thankfully, I'm just speculating. It just confuses me that they're delaying a near-complete (if not fully complete) game for 6-7 months to be fair to people who are going to get an inferior version of it anyway.

@tudsworth
I doubt they'll remove anything. They've probably already finished it and the 7 months delay is to have time to do the other ports while the Wii U version sits complete and untouched. We wouldn't want 360/PS3 owners to have to wait longer for a game than Wii U owners now.

I don't understand why they wouldn't just release it for Wii U then put it out later for 360/PS3. Put this is Ubisoft. Who somehow thinks a platformer released in September will sell gangbusters or something.

Oh, I doubt they'll remove or change anything, too. I think that Ancel (and Ubisoft Montreal as a collective) has enough integrity to not homogenise the gameplay to satisfy the people who will throw a shitfit over the WiiU version being inherently superior.

Of course, I've been proven wrong before, and the risk of that happening is very real.

I often say that I don't get hyped for games, I don't really read previews or watch videos or preorder or mark my calendar or anything. But I'm genuinely bummed by this news. Like, it feels like a punch in the gut. I'm physically uncomfortable over this delay.

That or I ate bad chicken.

This news sucks a fatass cock.

GTA V is going to murder this game soooo hard.

Is this game really going head to head with GTA though? Seems like different markets.

Yeah this is really bad. And Rich is definitely a stupid asshole. It was handled poorly, though the port is a completely understandable decision by Ubisoft. It's the same reason Revelations got ported. Right now a lot of people have a 360/PS3, more than ever because they're about to die, porting it isn't hard, they will probably make more money in the long run. The delay is not quite as good for them, but I guess they need time to work on the ports and didn't want to delay the game a full year later (when shelves are empty again). They could've released the Wii U version earlier or something

Yeah, I'm reeling from this BS too. I could live without exclusitivity (although it's nice for the Wii U to have at this point), but delaying the Wii U version over seven months so that it can release at the same time as the others is just mind-bogglingly insulting. I'm not a big Facebook guy, but I'd suggest leaving a firm (albeit respectful) comment on their Rayman news post. Seems like a whole lotta people are rightfully P'd O.

Wow they're getting pretty bombarded with disgust there. Hate to spread negativity, but I'm glad people are lashing out over the ludicrous delay to the Wii U version. Hopefully it opens their eyes, even if they don't budge in the end.

From Ubi's Facebook:

As many of you know the release of Rayman Legends on Wii U has been delayed until September. It's not all bad news though as you will now be able to collect those legendary Lums on PS3 and Xbox 360 as well.

We never want to delay a game and for that we're sorry. We made the tough decision to push back the release so we could offer it on multiple platforms. Stay tuned for more.

This seems very illogical to me. The other versions won't really sell any better, and the Wii U version will sell much worse.

How's the uPlay Miiverse community holding up?

@Zero

Precisely, and given the timeframe that it's launching in, it's doomed for poor sales before it even hits shelves. I let them know as much in the comments section.

We're gonna lose Mario next.

This pussified industry is really sickening me right now. No wants wants to take a risk for anything. No one wants to build anything.
Why is the videogame industry so goddamn immature? I understand some people wanna profit and some people wanna ensure their business survives, but there has to be some kind of integrity, shit,

Shameless move.

And so the delay is confirmed to only exist to appease those other 2 assholes who don't deserve this game? Make no mistake, this is a fucking Wii U game. First goddamn Wii U game we ever saw or heard of. Advertised FROM THE BEGINNING to make good use of the screen, NFC, etc.
I can understand how betrayed some Bayonetta people might feel, and this is still releasing on Wii U.

But this is a huge blow to Wii U's identity and lineup as far as I'm concerned. Like really, this game was a big win for Nintendo and its fans, and look where it's at now.

I'm actually with some people here that say they're just turned off now. It's fucking insulting, it really is.

I'll have to post there that I'll be cancelling my preorder and waiting to pick it up in the bargain bin, preferably used. Now I'm just wondering what I should get with that $60. I'm leaning toward Ni No Kuni.

I'd say they're taking it well.

I highly recommend FE:A if you haven't gotten it yet.

@ludist210
Yeah, I had to leave my own drawing there too. Poor Rayman...
