UBISOFT®'S RAYMAN LEGENDS NOW COMING TO XBOX 360® AND PLAYSTATION 3®
London, UK - February 7th, 2013 - Today, Ubisoft announced that its forthcoming title Rayman Legends, already announced for the Wii UTM system from Nintendo, will also be released on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. All versions will now hit shelves in early September 2013.
The Microsoft Xbox 360® and Sony PlayStation® 3 versions of Rayman Legends are being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the same team behind the Nintendo Wii UTM game. Rayman Legends has been praised for its stunning visuals and innovative gameplay by media around the world and labeled as one of the most anticipated platformers of 2013.
"We heard from many Xbox & Playstation owners and Rayman fans who told us they really wanted to play Rayman Legends on their current system", says Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA Chief Marketing & Sales Officer. "We decided to give the fans what they wanted while at the same time broadening the audience exposed to this innovative and memorable game."
Rayman Legends retains the fantasy appeal of its predecessor while adding a multitude of clever and entertaining gaming modes, new characters, new environments and a new soundtrack. The award-winning team of artists, designers and composers from Origins has also returned with an advanced UbiArt engine to include multi-dimension gameplay elements, an improved lighting system and updated game rendering that elevate Rayman's graphics to the next level.

And...there goes the one Q1 Wii U game I was really looking forward to.
Can't believe Ubi is leaving this game to die, releasing the same month as GTAV instead of during a pretty dry month (with no real competition on the Wii U).
Yes, and on top of that they will have to compete with Nintendo's big guns in the fall/winter. Wind Waker HD, likely Mario Kart U and possibly 3D Mario, not to mention NSMBU which will still be selling.
Yeah, thinking about this more makes me realize Ubisoft is really shooting themselves in the foot. It's coming, in theory, right around the time of GTAV. That's...not good for Rayman Legends. Not at all. Plus all of the above games @anon_mastermind mentioned. If you asked me what I would buy, it'd be one of those first (and I love the demo for Legends).
Honestly, it was THE game I was looking forward to in Q1. Once Bioshock got delayed a month so it was no longer releasing the same day as Rayman, there was really nothing else that would have been competing for my attention.
This is perfect proof that there has been a complete fucking meltdown between Nintendo and third parties. There is no way Nintendo did not know about this. There is no way Nintendo does NOT do their third party Nintendo Direxct any day now. Ill be completely honest, Nintendo is getting fucked hard right now. The gaming media is trashing them, third parties are making excuses to NOT develop for them, and they are getting torn apart by other fanboys for their graphical and system capabilities. I love my Wii U, but it is honestly impossible to recommend anyone to buy it until at least November, but will anyone care at that point?
Nintendo is getting boned hard by the industry and I've no idea who is to blame anymore... Is there a conspiracy? Is it just all a coincidence? Is this solely Nintendos fault? Dark times are ahead this month.
Nintendo NEEDS to make a PR move ASAP before ps4 is announced in two weeks.
That's what I'll probably do honestly. If it would have come out in February, I would have bought it for $60 no question.
I'm not upset that it's going multi-console, it's the timing of it. The Wii U version was delayed seven months, and now the game is going to butt heads with GTAV, Madden, Zelda, etc. This is a terrible idea. Timed exclusive would have been such a better idea.
Yeah I think they're seriously overestimating how popular Rayman Origins was. It was a fun game but I don't know if it'll get that much attention now. I think THQ basically did the same thing with Darksiders 2 (even though I'm surprised that didn't do as well).
The Wonderful 101 it is, then. Oh, and Lego City Undercover.
What's most maddening is how we can't get the Wii U version which was ready to go in a month because of this. Why are they twisting the knife in the back? At least let me LIVE with the knife in the back!
Will buy it when its 19.99. For crying out loud, we've had the demo since the very beginning!
@Deerock69 I agree. I had this preordered before launch and would've gladly paid $60 for it if for no other reason than to support them. Now, screw it. I'll pick it up when it's in the bargain bin after Christmas.
You guys make some good points. By September (which is a full 7 months away, not even 5 like I miscounted earlier), there'll be other games I'd want. Right now, I'd gladly pony up full price for Legends, but I'm pretty sure the game will hit a price drop fairly quickly, so between Ubi Soft's obnoxious betrayal and the fact that other games will be in stores around that time...I'm going to have to wait for a good deal on this one.
I hate to say it too, because it was my favorite game of E3 and one that I greatly enjoyed both demos of. But screwing your fans over is not cool...
Oh, I'm still probably getting it day one, just like I did for the first one. But I was one of the few people to do so. Everyone else got caught up in other games and got the game cheaper after Christmas.
Hell, I waited like a week and a half and got Rayman Origins and the preorder bonus art book for $40 on Amazon. And if I had waited another month, I could have saved another $20. This is a really dumb move on Ubi's part -- not just because I want the game sooner, but because it's not going to sell well.
As I recall, I think Rayman came out the same day as whatever Assassin's Creed game came out that year. Maybe they'll launch Legends the same day as GTA5?
I was gonna buy this day one. 3 weeks before release and a 7 month delay just to launch it alongside the competition? Go fuck yourself Ubisoft, I'm out. I loved the demo and played it to death but you assholes aren't getting any money from me, there'll be better games out by then.
If they really DID delay the game just to hit all platforms simultaneously, that truly sucks. It's so weird. I mean, if ANY game was suited to be at least a timed Wii U exclusive, it was Rayman. I think it would've benefited both parties, to be honest. It wasn't even a high-profile exclusive. Just a well-suited one.
So, yeah, if they delayed the game just to go multiplatform simultaneously, fuck Ubisoft, and if they homogenize the gameplay so that it'll be the same on all platforms, double-fuck Ubisoft, and if they delayed it JUST to homogenize the gameplay... I think you all see where I'm going here.
Assuming that IS what happened, what a dumb move. On par with the stupidity of announcing the RE4 port just BEFORE it hit the Gamecube. You're negating its value as an exclusive system-seller AND hurting your own short-term sales. And what is the benefit, exactly? I don't think people would've minded if it came out on Wii U now and was announced for PS360 later. In fact, I'm sure most of us were expecting exactly that.
To be fair the Wii U version will still have exclusive features, I just wonder if they are going to add things to the other versions as incentives. I bet Nintendo are pissed, they are publishing the game in Japan.
That's the thing; the WiiU version, exclusive features and all is at this point almost, if not fully, complete. The delay makes me worried that all of the WiiU version's extra features will be removed; because I honestly don't see any other logical reason for delaying complete code from going gold, especially when you've told all your distributors, partners and marketing to expect this game to be out on this specific date.
Edit to explain my reasoning - I worry that Ubisoft will remove Rayman Legends' Gamepad features because there is no (functional) way of recreating them on the PS3 and 360 - Vita Connectivity is, in simple terms, pretty laggy and generally not-that-great; and Smartglass is... well, it's Smartglass. I don't think any game has actually used Smartglass properly yet. In the interests of fairness on Ubisoft's part, rather than give everybody else a lesser game, it'd be more efficient to remove the only reason anybody would buy this game on WiiU over the other consoles.
