Disney shuts down Junction Point.

The Epic Mickey games weren't the best, but this news is somewhat surprising. Warren Spector confirmed it on his LinkedIn profile.

EDIT: Fixed the title. Disney still owns the rights to Epic Mickey, but I doubt they do anything with it in the near future.

Going after that PS3/360 pie was not a great idea I guess... the quality of the game suffered as a result.

Same thing happened to Blue Tongue, developer of de Blob, except the sequel was actually a great game.

None of the games released in the "series" were really all that great, so...no love lost here.

The only thing lost here was potential. Such a shame about that.

@GameDadGrant
I agree with this. They were brilliant ideas but never quite pulled them off correctly.

Even though I didn't really like Epic Mickey it was far from being a horrible game. I really hope the employees there find a great opportunity elsewhere.

The story of Icarus comes to mind. Not the kid, mind you.

From the bits I've played of all 3 games in the series, this is no big loss. Now Spector can work on something more his speed. Mascot platformers aren't exactly in his wheel house.

I don't find it surprising, Epic Mickey 2 had a huge staff and sold way less than the first game, even though it was released on four platforms. I'm actually pleased with this, people learned their lesson from the first Epic Mickey and didn't buy another mediocre game.

I was very surprised that the Epic Mickey games were not better received than they were. Warren Spector's record up to those games was flawless.

I wonder if he's going to go back to making darker sci-fi games again.

Both Epic Mickeys are horrible, stuff like this is always super sad news but fuck those games and the praise the first one gets.

I only played the first Epic Mickey, but that was enough to know that the series wasn't for me. I really wanted to buy/play the 3DS installment, as I adore 2D platformers, but the ho-hum reviews didn't help push me to scoop it up.

As for the news of Junction Point's closure, the only way this saddens me is if it means Warren Spector can no longer pursue his dream of making a new Ducktales game.

I'm not the least bit heartbroken. I'm sure these folks will have no problem finding new homes... and Spector? Thank God he is free of this Disney shit. This is the man that gave us Dues Ex!

@Hinph
Spector considered doing the Disney games being free of making dark sci-fi games with characters in trench coats. He's a Disney fanatic.

Any of you beat epic mickey 2? Is it that bad?

I was interested in the first game, but was put off by the mediocre reviews. Then I saw the videos of the second games which showed just how poor the port was to the Wii. Slowdown and pop in galore.

With all the fanfare and talent, I'm shocked at just how bad the games turned out, especially the 2nd. These should have been AAA quality.

Oops, meant the Wii U version.

@WrathOfSamus777

I'm sure that he is, but I'd like to see him have the freedom to work on what he wants... and hey, Dues Ex was his baby.

Also, didn't mean for my comment to come across as anti-Disney. I just really don't want to see such an important gaming figure being stuck working on god damn Epic Mickey 3. I do, however, have to admit that I would have been curious about Duck Tales. heh.

I'm with the crowd. Hope they all find jobs, but Junction Point is no big loss. I hope Spector can mount a big comeback a la Harvey Smith.
