Even though I didn't really like Epic Mickey it was far from being a horrible game. I really hope the employees there find a great opportunity elsewhere.
From the bits I've played of all 3 games in the series, this is no big loss. Now Spector can work on something more his speed. Mascot platformers aren't exactly in his wheel house.
I don't find it surprising, Epic Mickey 2 had a huge staff and sold way less than the first game, even though it was released on four platforms. I'm actually pleased with this, people learned their lesson from the first Epic Mickey and didn't buy another mediocre game.
I only played the first Epic Mickey, but that was enough to know that the series wasn't for me. I really wanted to buy/play the 3DS installment, as I adore 2D platformers, but the ho-hum reviews didn't help push me to scoop it up.
As for the news of Junction Point's closure, the only way this saddens me is if it means Warren Spector can no longer pursue his dream of making a new Ducktales game.
I'm not the least bit heartbroken. I'm sure these folks will have no problem finding new homes... and Spector? Thank God he is free of this Disney shit. This is the man that gave us Dues Ex!
I was interested in the first game, but was put off by the mediocre reviews. Then I saw the videos of the second games which showed just how poor the port was to the Wii. Slowdown and pop in galore.
With all the fanfare and talent, I'm shocked at just how bad the games turned out, especially the 2nd. These should have been AAA quality.
I'm sure that he is, but I'd like to see him have the freedom to work on what he wants... and hey, Dues Ex was his baby.
Also, didn't mean for my comment to come across as anti-Disney. I just really don't want to see such an important gaming figure being stuck working on god damn Epic Mickey 3. I do, however, have to admit that I would have been curious about Duck Tales. heh.
