On January 24, 2013, Nintendo is giving us several new titles on Wii U and 3DS. The Virtual Console experience arrived on Wii U yesterday, with Balloon Fight available as part of the Famicom 30th Anniversary Celebration for just $0.30! This limited-time deal will change each month leading up to July. SEGA/Double Fine's The Cave is also available, as well as a retail game. On the 3DS side, one retail title, one eShop title, a Virtual Console title, and a demo are all coming at noon ET. Be sure to check everything that's part of this week's Nintendo Download out!
Wii U eShop Retail Titles
Funky Barn - 505 Games
The Cave - SEGA, $14.99
Balloon Fight (NES) - Nintendo, $0.30 (through February 20)
Super C is absolutely amazing. If you like Contra on the NES, think of it as a full-length expansion to Contra.
@GelatinousEncore The overhead control in Super C is more "traditional", but I actually prefer the overhead controls in Contra III. They're a little harder to understand at first, which isn't helped by the game itself not explaining them at all, but when you get the hang of it you have more freedom of movement/control in Contra III's overhead levels.
Speaking of Super C's handheld VC release, I have no idea why Konami still hasn't brought the original Contra to either Virtual Console yet. It makes no sense
Nothing for me this week. Well, I'm going to get The Cave eventually for sure, but not yet. I just downloaded La-Mulana finally and I'm really digging that, so I don't need to download another game yet.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'm getting Balloon Fight, duh. I don't think there's any game that's not worth 30 cents. Still can't believe they're gonna sell Super Metroid for 30 cents...
I got Balloon Fight last night, and I'll probably buy every $0.30 game (Yoshi is the only one I really didn't care for). I'll get the Brain Age demo and I'll download The Cave at some point (but I'm swamped as it is right now, so it's on my wish list).
Is anyone NOT getting Balloon Fight? I'm tempted to skip it, I don't actually like the game that much. Didn't put much time into it on the Ambassador release at all either. I could tell myself "well this time, I can play 2 player mode" but that would be fooling myself.
@Guillaume I bought it, but I doubt I'll play it more than a few times. I mainly just wanted to try out the Wii U VC. If they had done a better game first and Balloon Fight second I probably would've skipped it.
I also bought Balloon Fight last night. The last time I played it was in Animal Crossing 10 years ago, and I forgot how unforgiving this game is! Still, the game is super fun, and the Balloon Trip mode is as addictive as ever.
Also, I find it funny that a simple NES game from 1985 is 35MB. That's bigger than Ocarina of Time!
@Guillaume I'm not a huge fan of Balloon Fight, and I thought about skipping it since I have it on 3DS, but hell, it's 30 cents, I don't think I can pass it up at that price. I mean, if I buy all seven of the games (which I probably will), it'll cost me a little over two bucks over the course of seven months. I think I can swing that.
