Whether we can pronounce the names or not, I think we're all sophisticated enough to be able to get passed unwelcoming titles. I hope that if a game interests you, the title doesn't play a role in whether you decide to try it out or not.
You can also just call is Megaten as fans do (even in Japan, I believe) which rolls off even our occidental tongues.
I'll take this moment to remind everyone that Atlus made their first splash (? -- at least with me) on Ogre Battle 64. I had never heard of them until that moment, and every time I've seen their name since that point, I've been happy with their work.
But...its like a buck. And someone in here pointed out before, you're basically paying (at that point) for MiiVerse integration and the ability to play on the GamePad. I don't think that its a bad thing, even if I won't be pursuing it (Wii VC on my Wii, new Wii U stuff on my Wii U). I mean, Rock Band added Pro Guitars and Secondary Tracks on top of the regular stuff on songs we already owned, and that was a buck on top of the two bucks we already paid. If Wii U Wii VC games were like THREE bucks to transfer, then I'd agree more.
Freakin' Dominos. Now I gotta eat Dominos on Friday..
I'm with ma boy KW here. Whether or not were idiots for thinking this way, the name is a turn off. It's awfully Japanese. And like him, there's nothing inherently wrong with it, but somehow it feels more foreign and less accessible to me. I somehow feel I have to know something or be something to play it.
It's not even just long exotic names and not only for games. TV show names can really turn me off for a long time cuz I'm like "fuck does that even mean?". Breaking Bad (which I finally got over and took the plunge), Mad Men, 30 Rock, etc, all give me the same problem. Now of course one could argue "what the hell does Final Fantasy or Bravely Default mean?", but I also don't think there's a hidden meaning somewhere.
It's a turn off. Period. Judging a book by its cover? Yes, but them's the breaks.
And I totally get where KW is coming from when he says he feels he needs to be a hardcore Otaku just to know about these games. Funny, he put into words what I couldn't. It's part of the reason I don't care for the Phoenix Wright or Ace Attorney series. Ill admit its idiotic, but I feel like an outsider. I should probably educate myself, but the fact I even have to is somewhat of a problem. And, wasn't this series long inaccessible or something? Doesn't help either. Even NOW I don't hear about that series often.
And final funny anecdote: I said the same thing KW said to my bro earlier when describing the announced games today. I said "you know that shin megami whatever game? Crossover with Fire Emblem". More or less my exact words. And he doesn't even know what game I'm talking about. I still don't. I just remember the name from some SSBM trophy. I don't even know what GENRE that game is, or how it'll mesh with FE (which is another series I know almost nothing about minus the SSB characters and the fact it's an RPG strat game).
Oh and I'm disappointed with the Yoshi game. Looks quite pretty, but nothing beyond what we saw on Wii IMO. Wii U can do a million tomes better. Hopefully it's just an early build. And why did certain parts look completely different? Keep in mind I've only seen vids and screens off my phone.
But it's not just the look. Why does the gameplay also look exactly like KEY? I don't want collectathon gameplay. The gems and animations being the same is a turn off too. Hope the game improves and carves its own identity.
On the topic of carlosrox (and Renjaku and T-Bun and our other great artists; I can't, and won't name you all!), I was looking FEVERISHLY for your guys' names in the video today. I thought for sure we'd see SOMETHING. I didn't recognize any of those names though.
Did anyone else see somebody they follow or have seen before? You guys all do a great job.
@Mr_Mustache Oh god yes. Was gonna mention this. I was DYING to see my name in there. Arghhhh. So jealous of people who got in there.
Actually kinda glad Nintendo didn't just show the shit of the insane fucks who redraw art pixel by pixel and use tricks to get straight lines and shit. Was happy to see legitimately good, honest art up there. I'm not too big of a fan of all the try hards on Miiverse. They weren't really playing favorites or only showcasing the ridiculous stuff. Maybe Nintendo feels the same way as me?
But yeah, I'd have FLIPPED if my art was up there. I'd die proud.
A lot of it seemed really random though. So much so that it almost felt...closed circuit? Like, they were totally controlling what was there? Don't we all (for the most part) see the same types of messages on the MiiVerse / WaraWara Plaza? I mean, I see a lot of your guys' stuff, but I also see good drawings from people in communities I never visit, and never have.
As far as it being closed circuit goes though... I saw someone with the name of ITCHYHEINEY. Haha, WHAT?! I don't even know how that passed the censors, actually, For those not in the know (somehow), "heiney" is another word for.. -- haha, I wanted to say 'heiney' here -- its another word for "butt," but for little kids to use, or something. "Oh, you fell down, did you hurt your heiney?" Like that.
I didn't know what to expect. At most, I was expecting a Smash Bros. teaser and a new announcement or 2... definitely not 7 or 8 surprise (MEGATON) announcements and/or trailers. Excited for everything (even Wii U Party to some extent. GamePad FOOSBALL). I smiled and laughed like a child when Yoshi was announced/shown, literally jumped out of my chair when the Monolith trailer started, and just sort of rolled on the floor not knowing what to do when I saw Wind Waker HD.
I know most of this stuff is far away, but MH3U should have me covered until at least the second half of the year, but almost certainly longer. Not to mention Lego City, PIKMIN 3!!!!, TW101 and plenty of e-Shop goodness. AND there's still have a couple games I own that I need to finish... Pretty excited to be a Wii U owner right now.
