"Mr Iwata will reveal new games for #WiiU in a new #NintendoDirect on 23/01"
"This time, the plan is a bit different from a regular Direct, in that I'll be talking about what kind of Wii U titles and services Nintendo is developing." - Satoru Iwata

Oh boy, I'm excited. Nothing can get me hyped more than upcoming Nintendo news. The Wii U Virtual Console and/or one new game announcement would be enough for me.
This is what I'm expecting. The lack of VC is a big hole in the eShop right now. As for games, I think Yoshi's Land might make an appearance finally.
The Wii U needs to move a lot of units for Nintendo to reach their targets before the end of the quarter, and announcing VC stuff isn't what's going to help them achieve that goal. The VC means a lot to us, but only to us. And we already have Wii Us.
@Guillaume Well, the Iwata tweet about "services" would imply something about the VC I think. If not, maybe TVii, but that's already out. Maybe Miiverse is getting updated. Hm.
What about the people who bought Wiis and own a bunch of VC games, but haven't made the jump to Wii U yet? Tying the Wii Shop Channel together with the eShop and adding in the functionality to play VC games on the Gamepad could snag those people.
I think they may date the announced games that have no dates yet, and hopefully they announce at least one new game. For the services part, we might see something about the new Virtual Console.
Was the VC advertised effectively in America? It seems like it wasn't here in Europe. At best it was a bulletpoint on a list of things the Wii could do.
With good marketting and GamePad functionality, maybe the Wii U version could attract people. Good marketting isn't really present for the system at all though yet.
I'm going in this with very little hype. They'll probably announce one new game that I'll look forward to getting and a trailer to a game that I already planned on getting. 30 minutes, tops.
I think Nintendo learned a pretty harsh lesson with the 3DS, both from a pricing and games release point. I hope that they will give us a one or two big game reveals, even if they are a year away. Anything to show us that the WiiU will be active and worth the price of admission.
