**The following scores are from Official Nintendo Magazine, according to a subscriber at NeoGAF.**
NSMBU (WiiU) - 86
TTT2: WiiU Edition (WiiU) - 88
FIFA 13 (WiiU) - 80
ZombiU (WiiU) - 92
Epic Mickey: The Power of 2 (Wii) - 80
Nintendoland (WiiU) - 90
With ZombiU, they love the fact that it is truly a survival horror game, and a legitimately scary one as well. The attention to detail is apparently fantastic as well, they use the example of the ingame depiction of London Underground stations, featuring status boards, announcements, turnstyles, the round help buttons, etc. They also see the gamepad as being used excellently, for example as a scanner, inventory, controlling security cameras, etc. They have a few minor issues and glitches with the gameplay, but nothing too major. They also wished it had online play and Miiverse functionality. Overall, they claim that it is 'the game you'll be switching on to illustrate why the WiiU is so great'.
@Zero@Cryojin Okay I'm wrong, IGN did hype it up, but Rich is an idiot, like everyone on the Nintendo team, I don't really follow anything they put out because they can't be taken seriously, Greg never hyped the game up and he's one that did the review.
PS: I should think before commenting on what IGN does, I only follow the playstation team because since Matt, Bozon, and Craig all left the Nintendo team has been total amateur hour. So yeah, if by IGN you mean Rich and Audrey etc. then yeah, they suck.
Why are people so quick to jump on bad reviews, if there are reviews that cover the whole spectrum? It's fine if you really trust Greg Miller's opinion, but Wii U games that are actually Wii U games are going to be divisive, just like Wii games that were actually Wii games. Mileage will vary, especially among the gaming media.
@Anand Greg's review wasn't super negative, 6 isn't bad on the IGN scale, it's mediocre. Patrick Klepek on Giant Bomb seemed to really like it based on their quick-look, Destructoid gave it an 8, it's currently a 73 on Metacritic. It seems pretty O.K. based on the reviews. Basically to me it seems like a really good idea that suffers a lot from being a rushed launch title and probably not really have the kind of budget/resources it needed to be really polished. It seems like the devs actually did a pretty good with limited means.
Let us not forget Greg Miller is a Nintendo HATER. Anything to do with Wii he bashed over and over. Now, his review on this game may be justified, I don't know, but I take his word for shit.
@deathly_hallows I dunno. Looking at the reviews, it seems that people either liked the slow, survival feel that it was going for, or they found it clunky. Kind of like the early Resident Evil games. It doesn't seem like the most polished title ever, but it IS doing some interesting things, unlike the vast majority of games, so it probably deserves some slack.
@cooliocuneo That's simply not true, he likes Nintendo, he plays Smash Bros. Brawl all the time, and he's a big Mario Kart fan, and he's mentioned several times on Podcast Beyond that he loves his 3DS. You're think of Damon maybe?
@Anand Those early RE games were more like adventure games that focused on story and characters and puzzles, they weren't super combat heavy, ZombiU seems hugely different.
I see your point though, it's a divisive game much like the old RE games. BTW Kotaku likes it too, they said it was like Demon's Souls with zombies, that's a pretty huge compliment.
@deathly_hallowsNo, I'm not confusing the 2. Damon was on the Nintendo team and was a hater. Greg, think he ran the PS3 team. While he might like Smash, Kart and 3DS, he always bashed Wii. I should have said he was a Wii hater. Time will tell if he's a Wii U hater too. Again, to be clear, his review very well might be fair, I just don't take him seriously when he's reviewing anything on a Nintendo system.
@cooliocuneo I think mostly he's just joking though, he "bashes" Vita too but he also really likes it, on Podcast he jokes around a lot, but I don't think he does the same for reviews. For Wii specifically he's mentioned that he likes Smash, Mario Kart, Galaxy, and NSMB. I'm pretty sure that when NSMB came out on Wii he said he was sitting aside the entire weekend to play it, as is his tradition when a new Mario game comes out. Maybe I'm wrong, it's a silly argument because no one knows how this person that none of us know personally feels deep down, but I don't think he's a Nintendo or Wii hater and I seriously doubt he didn't give ZombiU a fair review.
@deathly_hallowsIt has been a long time, maybe 2 years, since I've listened to him on a podcast, so maybe he isn't as bad as he used to be, and maybe I just didn't realize he was joking. Anyhoo, I'm curious if any NW's have any impressions.
IIRC, Greg always came across as more of a Sony fanboy than a Nintendo hater, but I never strayed too far from the GCN/Wii sites back when I was a reg there so I never read/heard much of his stuff.
BTW, I haven't been on the main IGN site in quite some time, but I heard a while back that he had cancer. I hope he's doing alright and has a full recovery.
There don't seem to be many reviews of the eShop games. I think I'm going to try to burn through (no pun intended) Little Inferno and get a review up within the next few days.
@FINlos, I was beginning to question my purchase too, but then read this. I think I'll lean toward the good reviews, and I like all that British nonsense, so I'll take the shrink wrap off soon.
I've been checking over the comments in the IGN section of the Zombi U review, and the Miiverse Zombi U community, and there are a lot of people who are actively disagreeing with Greg on his score.
NeoGAF are likening it to Excite Truck on Wii, Polarising reviews but gamers seem to love it. I think its going to be one of those launch games you look back on very fondly.
