ZombiU

GameSpot video review
Nintendo World Report - 9

**The following scores are from Official Nintendo Magazine, according to a subscriber at NeoGAF.**

NSMBU (WiiU) - 86

TTT2: WiiU Edition (WiiU) - 88

FIFA 13 (WiiU) - 80

ZombiU (WiiU) - 92

Epic Mickey: The Power of 2 (Wii) - 80

Nintendoland (WiiU) - 90

With ZombiU, they love the fact that it is truly a survival horror game, and a legitimately scary one as well. The attention to detail is apparently fantastic as well, they use the example of the ingame depiction of London Underground stations, featuring status boards, announcements, turnstyles, the round help buttons, etc. They also see the gamepad as being used excellently, for example as a scanner, inventory, controlling security cameras, etc. They have a few minor issues and glitches with the gameplay, but nothing too major. They also wished it had online play and Miiverse functionality. Overall, they claim that it is 'the game you'll be switching on to illustrate why the WiiU is so great'.

For those interested, Epic Mickey 3DS apparently got a 60 :(
jeez. That was the one 3DS game that I was holding money out for during the holiday season... now I'm worried.

On topic: I'm really interested in seeing the reception Zombi U will get. Since I'll probably only pick up one game before Christmas: I might force myself to get it, instead of NSMBU, if it gets amazing reviews. But I still have doubts... Also interested to see how Rabbids Land fares, it looks fun/competent; although it would probably last on my 'buy list' if it is good.

@deathly_hallows Hmm, I wonder how much of the Hatsworth team is still around. Monster Tale was good, but no Hatsworth.

@Guillaume Yeah one review and a crappy demo doesn't mean much, especially since I hate 90% of demos. (I didn't even play this one...)

Way too much faith is being put into these reviews... Not sure why someone would put their money in the hands of others. It's a shame IMO.

Anyways Deputy Van Halen is insane. I thought my 6 launch games was excessive... You're spending like over a thousand dollars??

You mean in the opinions of others. For me, it is simple: there really is no way to put my money in my own opinion before I spend said money, so I can either spend it blindly, or at least take a look at what people who have tried it have to say. Unless there is a demo for the game, but rarely has my enjoyment of a demo represented my enjoyment of the final product when I have tried demos, so I mostly avoid them now.

I have purchased and enjoyed quite a few games that got generally poor scores. I'm basing my feelings of Power of Illusion on my own experience + the review. That's only one review though. I'm interested to see what others say (including some of the people here). For now, my money remains in my own hands.

I don't know about insane. Overenthusiastic maybe. Taking advantage of finally being with a woman who doesn't gripe when I spend time or money on video games and even encourages it, absolutely. Anyway, I planned it all out way ahead of time and passed on the multiplatform versions of all the games that weren't exclusive to get them here instead. I had been saving all year for this and had the money, and this is likely to be my last console launch for several years, so why not enjoy it?

IGN put up their Scribblenauts Unlimited review, and they were quite pleased with the game.

Sounds good. I think I will pick this one up for the Wii U sometime in December.

It's not a Wii U game yet, but Gamespot put up their Epic Mickey 2 review.

It erm... didn't do so well.

GameSpot's ZombiU review
GameSpot's ZombiU video review

I think it went up early on accident, judging from the URL.

So, umm....

Wow. They don't seem happy about it at all.

I quit going to Gamespot around 10 years ago. Every once in a while I will check out what they have to say. Judging by their unboxing of the Wii U, they still totally suck and have no idea what the Wii U is all about. Typically, the majority of their reviews give out lower scores compared to the rest of the review sites.

I do think the review was a bit muddled and confusing. At many points, it sounded like the reviewer simply wanted the game to be a FPS/action game rather than survival-horror. I'm wondering how he'd score something like the REmake, since a great deal of his points could be leveled at that game too.

@TriforceBun

This,

The fact that the Zombies can keep pace with you should be a good thing yes? and surely a game that encourages you to face an enemy one at a time rather than in a group would be a tad more realistic. I will wait for more reviews and will not be putting too much wait into this guys opinion just yet. There are some pretty heavy spoilers in that video review too so that kinda riuned some stuff for me.

One point that did concern me was the idea that the combat was exploitable. I could see that hampering the survival experience if there's an easy way to kill zombies.

Do the same people generally do the "mobile" reviews and the regular reviews there? It seemed like a pretty short and not so detailed reviewed, but I suppose that is because it is meant to be read on a phone.

In other news, the PS3 version of Epic Mickey 2 is getting completely slammed in multiple reviews. Maybe it's time for Warren Spector and Disney to take a step back and start this high-concept series over. Sounds like the additions (namely, co-op) are bigger detriments than the first game's camera was.

To be fair in Carlos's hype thread on this I said the combat looked bad and exploitable and apparently, according to Gamespot at least, that's the case.

If the game wasn't so combat heavy and was focused more on exploration, I don't think it would have been a problem however it looks like RE4 levels of combat with only a melee attack most of the time. I can see that getting incredibly tedious.

REmake doesn't have wave after wave after wave of baddies coming at you. Like I said above that to me sounded like what the reviewer had a problem with. It's a very combat heavy game, which REmake was not, and it really only gives you one way to tackle most enemies... pull a zombie from the herd and beat it to death. If that really is the case, that is poor... very poor... game design.

I didn't get that from the review at all, what I got was that the combat is too repetitive because there are a lot of zombies to kill, but not enough weapon variety to kill them in a fun way. Hitting Zombies over and over again with a cricket bat does seem really boring, when I think of excellent survival horror games like the first Dead Space, yes ammo was scarce and it added tension, but the combat had a lot of variety due to different weapons and enemy types and it was fun/interesting to play.

Not that this review is the last word, obviously it's just one guy's opinion it will be interesting to see what other people think, but I don't think this review is confusing, he made his points very clearly.

Many people will be bothered by that review... And similarly, I'm sure many will cancel preorders based on it...sigh.

However, I do admit the reviewer may be bringing up some good points. Nothing that would break the game for me though. Like I said before, I have faith the whole package will be a great one, though I've always feared there was "a catch" to Zombi U.

Edit: It seriously got a 4.5? Out of 10? Not watching that video review because I don't need to, AND it sounds riddled with spoilers. I'd never dare give any game I've played 4.5, unless it was horribly broken. Then again I don't play shitty games. Shittiest game I can think of on the spot that I bought and played was Far Cry Wii. I wouldn't even give that a 4.5. Sounds like the same bullshit we got with MOH:WF.
