Mass Effect 3 to be a Wii U Launch Title

Well this is good news for Nintendo fans eh? Does this then calm down some fears from people or no?

Mass Effect 3 is coming out for Wii U at the console's launch. And it'll contain that whole comic thing that helps the whole story thing.

I know it's another "port" and it's coming "after the original launch" but still... major game on new Nintendo console... could be a good sign eh?

I think it's pretty cool and I know little about Mass Effect at all.

Nintendo World Report's Article

This should be news to the board. The only thing I can see might be referencing this is this DeputyVanHalen's Post.

Until Mass Effect 4 comes along and isn't ported to Wii U cause it's not powerful enough

Hmm, it's pretty neat that this is coming. I'm playing Mass Effect 2 right now, it's fun. This would probably be a weird series to jump in with the last game but as long as the comic thingy is pretty fleshed out it could work out.

It seems kind of strange, since this trilogy (it *is* just a trilogy, right?) is so focused on story, and building your own Shepard and taking him or her through the entire epic. But Nintendo-only gamers will experience just the last part.

I dunno, I'm 'meh' on Mass Effect. I played the first hour or so of the original on 360 and was bored to tears.

I love Mass Effect, but part (emphasis on "part") of why I love the series so much is seeing my decisions from game to game affect what happens in the sequels. People who would start with the second, or especially the third game would be missing out on some/all of that. I'm glad I have a 360 for the series.

This is a fucking obvious TEST. FUCK TESTS.

Since I have never played the first 2 Mass Effect games this really does not interest me. Now, if EA or whoever the developer is, ports over the first 2 games, then it is possible I would be interested.

Actually, one would think that for the Wii U the complete trilogy would be released on the Wii U all in one package. I honestly cannot imagine anyone who has never played the first 2 games, just going out and buying this one and those who have played them, more than likely already owns ME3 on either the 360/PS3

I think Microsoft owns publishing rights to the first Mass Effect, but the 2nd could/should come over.

I'm not sure why EA can't port the first Mass Effect to other consoles? Microsoft publishing it didn't stop Tecmo from making a new version of Ninja Gaiden II for the PS3.

Depends on what the deal was.

Maybe I'm wrong but wasn't this pretty much a given, along with Batman: Arkham Asylum, Assassin's Creed III and other third party games that will have already released by the time the Wii U hit stores this holiday? Well, I guess it's always nice to have an official statement regarding the matter.

@Tranquilo

I don't know, I don't expect Assassin's Creed III at Wii U launch. I hope it is, because I'd get it for Wii U instead of 360, but I don't think it will be.

Good to hear ME3 will be launch though! That's major, hope it sells.

Thanks DrF! I'm super happy that Bioware has made an interactive comic for ME2 as well. I really wanted to play this on the Wii U but I was worried there wouldn't be a way of carrying over my decisions in the first two games.

Celibate Space Jesus, ftw!

For those who aren't going to look at this title because the other two aren't coming over in a trilogy, if you read the article, there is a means to keep each player caught up in the story and even tackles an interesting thing where your choices in the previous games will affect your Mass Effect 3.

Much like Mass Effect 2 on the Playstation 3, Mass Effect 3 will also include an interactive comic of sorts that will provide back story and present the player with the different dillemas he would have encountered throughout the first two games. The choices made will directly impact his play through of Mass Effect 3.

They might not be able to release a trilogy but this is pretty damn cool for them to do despite.

@DrFinkelstein

How long/in-depth are these comics though? Part of the fun is to be taken in by the world and its characters and to have the story be fed to you through a comic can't be the same. I guess it's good for those that really never had any means to play it before but I wouldn't bother with a series that spans 3 huge games.

I wonder if the comic is actually BETTER in some ways. It would give you the chance to try out a bunch of scenarios without playing through the first two games again.

Warning: If you buy the game used you might get screwed out of the comic, since you may have to download it through EA servers and yada yada. That's how it worked on Mass Effect 2 for PS3. I think.

@AnandThat's why I played ME 2 again on the PS3. I wanted to try out different choices without having to replay the first game. Plus, with the comic, you can probably have everyone survive in ME2 without having to waste hours on that boring-ass mining mini-game for ship upgrades.

@Griptor

That is a bad thing. Nintendo fans are going to buy the system regardless but what about the hardcore Nintendo mentioned they want to appeal to? Those gamers are just going to buy that game for their console of choice; the more they wait the more lessen the sales on Wii U...

And there is absolutely no reason why Batman shouldn't be there on launch day. What has Rocksteady been doing lately? They've already finished doing the DLC for Batman.

@Tranquilo

I do think Batman will be at launch, but Rocksteady aren't the ones behind it on Wii U, it's mostly WB Montreal.

Just like Ubi Montreal isn't handling AC3 for Wii U; instead it's Ubi Quebec City. I talked to one of the Montreal devs at E3 and I *think* he mentioned that the WiiU version isn't as far along, which is why I'm doubting launch. But I could be mistaking that statement coming from someone else, so I'm not sure.

Also, this shouldn't be shocking to anyone but WiiU launch is likely November 18 ;)

@GriptorYeah, I've been counting on November 18 since they announced a 2012 release last year. It'll be a mistake if AC 3 isn't ready for launch, but I could see it happening. Arkham City has no excuses though.
