YES! I love shmups and this one I've had in my Amazon cart for ages. Shmups are perfect as a download game because they can be played in short bouts. I hope it's a reasonable price and not full retail. I'd pay $10-15... maybe $20 if the additional content is meaty enough.

Sign me up for sure! This would be an insta-download, and I'd probably even end up selling my cartridge for the original game. It's really fun, but I have a hard time putting it into my system just for short bursts of shooting action. Like @vids said, this would be a perfect addition as a digital download. Makes pick-up-and-play sooooo much easier!

*grumble grumble* I guess I'd have to know what the new modes/options are before I get a little upset that I bought the original version. And if people who have EX can't compare scores w/ people who have the original?? *super grumble... volcano...* PS - yes, the game was amazing... blah blah blah ... obviously I loved it: The Plot Thickens #1 - Nano Assault

Sweet! I had a feeling they would do this and add CPP support after learning it was a twin-stick shooter without the twin sticks.

@deathly_hallowsThat's weird... my copy used the face buttons.

@NinSageI haven't played it yet, but since I'm a huge Nanostray 1 and 2 fan I followed the reviews really closely and most of them mentioned that this game was designed to be a twin-stick shooter ala Geometry Wars or Super Stardust but since the since the 3DS is missing a 2nd analog input the devs had to resort to using the face buttons as a work-around. I've used that control scheme for similar games (like Everyday Shooter) on the PSP and found it very awkward and fun-destroying, so I passed on this title hoping they'd eventually patch in CPP support, which they will surely do for this new release. This makes me very happy! Now if only Nintendo would start actually shipping the CPPs to stores.... Nintendo World Report said:The only major hiccups that soil these sections are the controls, which would benefit greatly from a twin-stick Circle Pad Pro-esque setup; you use the Circle Pad to move the ship and the face buttons to fire. It’s not game-breaking, but it can be frustrating at times, especially because the 3D environments have depths and valleys that put you at odd angles.

@deathly_hallowsCongrats on working the lack of a second stick into yet another thread!

Well in this case, it's actually relevant. I later saw that NWR got word from the dev about CPPro support but forgot to edit it in.

@GuillaumeHe could mention it without yet again talking about how he finds it awkward and fun-destroying to not have the second stick.

@JargonSorry, I'm just happy they patched in CPP support, this is a game that could clearly benefit from it and obviously the devs felt the same way.

Fuck, I just bought this for a fifteener, played through it, and it was a bit underwhelming. Oh well. I'll try to pawn off my copy asap before the eShop release.

Considering the way Shin'en developed this game, I'm a little surprised they didn't set up the controls Geometry Wars Galaxies-style (on DS). The touch screen makes aiming a breeze, and with the Circle Pad, the game would have excellent controls all around. But I ended up playing it more like I played Cannon Spike on Dreamcast, which was another top-down, shoot-em-up with enemies coming at you from all sides. I had fun with it, but I'm looking forward to the new "EX" version even more.

@GameDadGrantI wondered the same thing when the game was first released, why not include stylus control? Ditto for MGS3 or any other game that requires precise aiming. Ideally when Jools makes Dememtium 3 he'll offer both stylus aiming and CPP support so gamers can choose which they prefer, in that case I might stick with stylus... but if was laying down in bed twin sticks would probably be a whole lot more comfortable.

Yep, I talked to Shin'en this morning. Circle Pad Pro support is in for the eShop re-release. I'll be double dipping- I loved the game, but it definitely will benefit from the CPP. Shame they couldn't work out a patch for the retail version, but it make much better economical sense for them to just re-release it on the eShop, especially considering their other eShop successes. They wouldn't give me any details on the other stuff though. I tried! Manfred (co-founder) says that they'll reveal the rest of the new stuff in September.

I guess I'm going to be a double-dipper, too. I honestly don't know what to do with my cart now. :( EDIT- But, like its been said a couple times, this will be great for some pick-up-and-shmup on tap! :)

Bought the retail version for $5, haven't opened it. I'm not sure how I feel about this news. @mr_chunThat's cool. Shin'en's a solid company. Next time you talk to them, tell them to try to make a downloadable F-Zero game for Nintendo!

I actually have talked to them about that before haha! What they told me is that they've spent the last few years creating new IP's, and now they're going to take care of them. If we see a new racing game from Shin'en, it will more than likely be a port of or sequel to FAST on the 3DS/WiiU. Nothing confirmed, but they said that they weren't satisfied with FAST launching so late and want to reach a wider audience with it. At the moment, they have two games in the works in addition to Nano Assault EX- a sequel to Jett Rocket called "Super Surf" on the 3DS, and a "futuristic action title" for the WiiU. I would guess that the latter is in the "Nano" universe. Here's my interview with them from July.

@mr_chunCool, I'll check it out. FAST was great. I always wondered how it sold, coming so late in the cycle. Do they stick with Nintendo consoles because the barrier to entry is too high on other platforms, or do they actually make money with their downloadable games? Regardless, Shin'en has shown the ability to do very good puzzle, racing, shoot-em-up, and platforming games, which is quite an impressive range. Their games are very polished, too. They don't have the shitty, half-assed feel of most third-party WiiWare and DSiWare. Or even most independent XBLAWare or PSNWare.

@AnandI assume that they're making good money with their downloadable games, more than they ever did at retail. Bringing Nano Assault to the eShop after two successful eShop releases is pretty good evidence of that. In my interview I asked them about why they haven't tried other digital distribution platforms, and they basically said they've always been fond of Nintendo, and that the digital shops have "allowed" them to continue developing exclusively for Nintendo platforms. @deathly_hallowsIndeed, I really hope it happens.
