It's time for a new installment of the NegativeWorld podcast. This episode, Anand & Zero sit with NinSage, hosting-solo this time, and talk about the news, the recent Montréal meetup & their WiiU experiences at a recent Chicago event.
As usual, the theme music comes from Negative World's owner and dictator, Zero. The interlude's musics are taken from Pokémon Pearl/Diamond.
Comment on the topics, the podcast, the guests, the host, etc. on Negative World! Or, be go ahead and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.
OR it would be the greatest thing possible. How many people do you usually have? I know Zero beat me (I was Harrison Bergeroning myself!) and thats like "the thing" right now, but I'm pretty darn good. I mean, at least I think I am..
Zero's comments about liking Mass Effect 2 and how it creates a galaxy of distinct races who interact differently made me think of Star Control II. I know this is likely to fall on deaf ears, but you should definitely try that game out Zero. It's freeware. And unlike Mass Effect 2, it is completely non-linear. It's not exactly an RPG, more like an action adventure I guess, but lots RPG-ish elements.
Another big advantage for having digital versions of games is that if you have kids or live with kids like I did for so long with my nieces (and I still keep lots of my video games at their house) then there is always a danger of a game getting scratched or otherwise lost or broken. My niece put my copy of Wii Sports into the VCR when she was little and it was lost in there for years until I finally found it. If the game had come loaded on the Wii it wouldn't have happened. And for handhelds, as someone who loads all my DS games onto a flash cart, it is really really nice.
It's funny how Anand is always asking people what they think like he's the moderator when it's supposed to be his time to talk. "I've been playing Pilotwings. You've played that right, Zero? Tell us about it."
I don't know about Japan, but in the US they have NOT had the same AC adapter for 4 editions. The adapter is different for the DS Fat, DS Lite, DSi, and 3DS. No one I know has a DSiXL, so I don't know about that one.
I feel like there was another topic you guys discussed that I wanted to weigh in on. Hmm....
Edit: AH, now I remember. Super Mario Bros. 2 JPN. I've beaten both the Lost Levels and SMB2J (twice) and SMB2J is definitely much tougher. Not sure exactly on the details of why, but beating the Lost Levels wasn't particularly tough to me, but SMB2J is a monster. The second time I beat it without using any warp pipes and it unlocks an extra world (World 9), which I'm pretty sure you only have one chance to beat with the lives you have left over. It wasn't as tough as earlier levels but I'm still amazed I managed to do it.
What I haven't done is played Worlds A-D in the Japanese version (I have in the All Stars version). To do that, you have to beat the original game 8 times in a row! So crazy. Maybe I'll do it on emulator or something someday.
I didn't know that was how Worlds A-D opened up. That's insane. I wonder how long it took for those worlds to be found. Actually, I'd be fascinated just to see the original Japanese response to SMB2J.

I do that to combat my verbal incontinence. Plus, I dunno. Interaction.

Whaaat? I'm pretty sure that the DSi, DSiXL, 3DS, and 3DSXL all use the same adapter.
Ah I guess you're right that they've used the same charger since DSi. Still, I don't think that really makes it that likely that someone will have one already since anyone upgrading from DS Fat or DS Lite would be out of luck.
@Guillaume Anand keeps saying that but I think he is just trying to pass the buck. Basically it was him and I that everyone considered the villains. Chicago style!
You the man, too, Joe! Nice job on your first hosting gig!
Also, EVERYONE is vulnerable to deep-dish pizza. Some of us just don't know it yet.
@Guillaume You are the Hero of Darkness! Hmm, what if they made the most evil character Ganon, or something? With special evil powers? Or what if they secretly had one character be a mole?! Asymmetrical multiplayer is so promising!
@Zero Haha, in the level that I won, I was actually the Hero of Light! I switched to the side of good, for monetary reasons. I was easily the most evil person at the WiiU Experience, though. The NSMB U guy seemed kind of shocked and horrified.
If they made one player The Mole, you'd be pretending to be The Mole the entire time to throw off the others. You can't play a straight game! I guess you were OK in Monster Hunter, but now I'm thinking back to those stray Bowgun shots..
I agree with Joe regarding playing Pokemon for fun. The opposite of fun, in my opinion, would be to play Pokemon for the sole purpose of optimizing every single attribute and stat to ensure I can win when battling against other people. Also, although I'm not officially a Pokemon Society member yet, I've posted in Davoid's thread the passion I continue to carry to this day, from the first time I ever played Pokemon Red.
I liked the Backlaugust discussion, it's funny when you really think about what actually constitutes a game to be a part of your 'backlog.'
Oh, someone mentioned TimeSplitters 2. I think it was Anand who praised the game very highly, and rightly so. I love that game and played the heck out of it on my GCN. You guys do know about the movement to get TimeSplitters 4 released? Bring it to WiiU please, I would be a happy gamer!
Very good podcast guys. I felt it was abit a shame that the Montreal Meet-up discussion was basically a "what you've been playing 2". Oh well.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Zero briefly said something about 'oh, we also went out and did stuff besides play games' but it wasn't really discussed. But I liked hearing about the games everyone got to play together, so it's cool.
No, I played like a half hour of Cave Story on PC, liked it, and never played it again because I don't like playing games on PC. Then it came out on WiiWare and I played it there for realz.
But um... yeah it appears it can be played on Wii. Interesting.
