Mighty Switch Force update coming this Thursday *update is now live*

Straight from WayForward themselves, the update, which includes 5 new levels, will be coming this Thursday to everyone who owns or downloads the game. Here's the full list of updates:

5 all new bonus levels
Enhanced stereoscopic effect to all previous levels
By popular request, a “retry” button for dedicated speed runners

Though we already knew it was coming, the retry button will definitely be helpful for those that want to 100% the game. Curious to see what the enhanced 3D will look like as it was already a very clean and sharp 3D effect.

Here's a link to their blog where this info was taken.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Thank goodness. That game NEEDS a retry button. I knew an update was coming and I was wondering when, but I didn't realize it included more levels! Cool!

Maybe I'll finally check this one out. I've been meaning to, it just hasn't happened yet.

Forgot all about this. Will take 5 free levels.

(I wonder if I will have to revise my score after playing them.)

(But should DLC count towards the score of the main game?!)

(What about FREE DLC?!)

One thing I'm curious about is this:

A new version of Mighty Switch Force will be available in the Nintendo eShop starting May 24th. Players who already own the title can download the game again for free.

Doesn't sound like the game is receiving a patch but instead just making us redownload a newer version. Although I guess this could be simpler for those that buy it after the update and aren't forced to download a separate update. Still, for larger games (this one is pretty big), it would be more convenient to just have a patch.

@VofEscaflowne

Just as in the case of Mario Kart 7, I think the process is more convoluted than it will be in the future, because 3DS games weren't meant to be patched, but in the future, they will be. The "hooks" will be in place, or whatever.

I'm surprised to hear this update will include an "enhanced stereoscopic effect". I thought Mighty Switch Force had some of the best 3D I've seen on the 3DS, and they're gonna make it better?

@Guillaume

Yeah I hope this is the case really. Especially when downloading games digitally and they get patched. I wouldn't want to redownload the whole thing!

Wait...huh? VVVVVV got an update, and I don't recall if I had to download the whole thing all over again or not...

@ludist210

It's hard to say... it wasn't a terribly large game to begin with. Guess we'll find out with Mighty Switch Force because I know I had to wait quite a bit before it finished downloading.

Great game may have just reached excellent status. Well done, WayForward.

@VofEscaflowne

Some PSN games are bad when it comes to patches. You'll buy a game and download it, only to be required to download a patch that's the size of the entire game when playing for the first time. Braid made you do this, and it's annoying!

Sweet! Been playing through this and loving every minute of it. The only downside would be ONLY FIVE LEVELS??? But, hey, its free, right? Is it free?

@Deerock69

Yup, it is free!

I just checked online and while the Mighty Switch Force download for the game itself is on the front page with the inclusion of the 5 bonus levels, there seems to be no way for current owners to actually update it. I guess they'd have to delete and then redownload it...?

@VofEscaflowne

Did you go to Settings > Your Downloads in the eShop? Check there. Did it pop into Settings > Updates maybe?

I have no way of trying this since I didn't own the game before, but those would be my guesses...

Yep, I tried both of those and no luck. Does deleting a game let you keep your save files? I'd imagine those are stored separately but I'll wait and see if this gets worked out somehow.

Hm, I think you may have to redownload the game. The save file should be separate (check to be sure).

Can't wait to check out the enhanced 3D!

@anon_mastermind

There doesn't seem to be separate date for the save themselves. There's only data for MSF and it's 1600 blocks. That's it.

From what I read on GAF this is an issue with the NA eShop; Europeans get prompted to update the game when entering the eShop.
