Nintendo of America comments on the 3DS eShop Schedule

Nintendo comments on the 3DS eShop Schedule. According to the spokesperson, there is not "preset schedule of how many games will become available each week, but many more are on the way via all of these digital-delivery systems."

The quoted articles says that there is not set schedule on HOW MANY games will be available. But does this also mean that there is not set plan on WHICH 3DS games will release and WHEN they will actually release?

Nintendo World Report said:
Basically, they say there is a whole bunch of other content out there.

While we're now aware that Nintendo of America's two-month 3DS Virtual Console drought will end next week with Kirby's Block Ball, here is Nintendo of America's comment to us in regards to the lackluster support in 2012 for the service:

"Each week Nintendo makes available a mix of Nintendo eShop, Virtual Console, WiiWare and Nintendo DSiWare games. Combined, these services currently provide gamers with hundreds of fun and interesting downloadable games to choose from. There is no preset schedule as to how many games will become available in a given week, but many more are on the way via all of these digital-delivery systems."

Nintendo is saying that they give gamers options, defending the original content-heavy release schedule by saying that the eShop (and the Wii Shop, for that matter) has hundreds of games already.

How do you feel about Nintendo's comments? Would you rather have more Virtual Console than original eShop games? Or vice versa? Let us know in the Talkback section below.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Why can't they have a steady flow of both? Stupid incompetent fucks.

The overall eShop output isn't bad. It's the 3DS Virtual Console that's confusing right now. There are several VC games available in other territories... why is North America in such a drought?

@GameDadGrant

My thoughts exactly. They need to understand that the Virtual Console shouldn't be secondary to the eShop's 3D download titles, it should complement it.

@ludist210

Virtual Console *should* supplement 3DSWare! It shouldn't supplant it.

If you release a good GB game and a good eshop game I one week, I will buy them both. NoA makes bonehead decisions

@GameDadGrant

Yeah, not sure what I was thinking there. I edited my OP to reflect that. Thanks for the catch!

Meanwhile, Europe is getting Kirby's Dreamland 2 this week.

The thing they never seemed to understand is that with Virtual Console they have hundreds- no- thousands of games that could be uploaded to the service at any time. I can't imagine that it costs much to get them re-rated and then get them a little spinning icon for the menu, so there's no sense in waiting MONTHS between VC releases.

I get the logic- starve us for content, then release one that we don't really want and we'll buy it just cause there's nothing else. But that doesn't work on everyone. Me? I'm waiting for specific titles. So the faster they upload stuff, the more likely it is that they'll upload the games that I want to buy. I'm not gonna buy Superman 64 just cause that's the only one they've uploaded in the past six months.

I want fucking Pokemon Blue. Everyone does. I don't understand why they just don't put it up. What are they waiting for?

The problem is that their statement is inaccurate -- at least when it comes to the eShop, it's not a mix. It's an eShop title or a Virtual Console, not both. I don't necessarily think the VC should be more prominent than original 3D content, but we certainly shouldn't have to go three months without a single Game Boy game either, while other regions are getting plenty of them. I mean, Japan has Wario Land 3 already, while we don't even have the first one.

This is one area where Nintendo needs to step it up. More substantial weekly updates and occasional sales will go a long way to improving the service.

@mr_chun

Pokémon Blue/Red is... well. I've seen requests/wishlists for those games to become available on the Virtual Console before, but... I don't get it. I'm all for those games being released again, but without a way to battle/trade with others (even just locally) the game is kinda pointless IMO.

As soon as Nintendo gets the 3DS Virtual Console games working with a "Virtual Link Cable" then I'm all for the Pokémon games. But until then, I'm not interested.

By the way, has Nintendo mentioned anything about being able to play two-player games on 3DS Virtual Console?

@GameDadGrant

I think it's behind the "getting Controller Packs working on the Wii Virtual Console" bullet on their priority list.

Shoddy management once again. Why can't they just release the same stuff for Europe/NA/Canada?

I hate to say this, because I like the guy, but I do think Reggie is screwing up on a number of different fronts.

This is pretty much the answer I expected from Nintendo.

It actually does cost at least a few thousand dollars to have games rated by the ESRB, which is exactly why iPhone games and XBLA indie games are not rated. This may be a reason we are seeing less releases now, because that alone makes for a certain number of units which need to sell just to make back those costs, and these games are being sold for only a few dollars. Perhaps they aren't yet selling enough to make it worthwhile for now?

@GameDadGrant

I'm one of many people that like running through red and blue for the hell of it.

I think Nintendo should promote the Virtual Consoles. You never see it on TV, or magazines, or anywhere else. I'm sure that would boost their sales a little bit.

@Guillaume

See, it's things like this that make me hesitant in supporting NOA in the future and hate Reggie with a passion.

@Mop it up

That's interesting. Are there any particular advantages/disadvantages to getting something ESRB-rated?
