Believe it or not, we've been working on a new podcast for a while! After some scheduling conflicts and then free-time-to-work issues in general, the new episode of the Negative World Podcast is finally upon us! Better late than never eh!?

Gamewizard65 and Ninsage talk about their latest gaming endeavors while DrFinkelstein laments about his broken Wii.

Then, the crew discusses things like whether or not Nintendo needs to rely on gimmicks, how nostalgia affects our gaming experiences, and finally how our hype for the video game hobby we love changes over time!

As usual, the theme music comes from Negative World's owner and dictator, Zero. The music throughout the podcast is taken from Super Mario Galaxy, it's sequel, and Super Mario Sunshine. Songs from mario games which were intended to elicit a nostalgic response of some kind. ;)

Comment on the topics, the podcast, the guests, the host, etc. on Negative World! Or, be go ahead and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.

In time... but not tonight... You can find an enhanced version of this podcast with chapters and art at Negative World Podcast Enhanced or on iTunes.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

I'm a little confused... when I hover over the MP3 direct download it shows episode 30, but when I right click to save it shows up as episode 29? Hmm.

/EDIT nevermind, it's working now. Might have been some weird browser issue.

Contrary to what it says when you play in the browser, this IS Episode 30.

@Zero
Try again. I fixed something.

I've only listened to the first part so far, good discussions!

Gamewizard65 had a lot to say about the 3DS Minigolf game (you could post a review!). I hadn't heard much about this game prior to listening to you guys. I'm not a big sports fan, but I loved the mini-golf in Mario Golf, so... maybe I would enjoy this one?

NinSage had a good discussion of Kid Icarus Uprising, and the intricacies of the weapon fusion. (You should join our discussion in the Kid Icarus Uprising thread!) Wow, using the face buttons to aim? I would find it hard to use rather than the stylus, but I understand if the stylus makes it uncomfortable to play after some time. That's why I love the game, it has options galore.

I could definitely enjoy Mario Party 9.
I'm sure Mop it up will appreciate the correction made by NinSage regarding the username!

Colors 3D sounds like a fun and versatile app, but my guess is I wouldn't really use it all that much. The options you have to share both the final creation as well as the 'making of' video are great though.

Will keep listening!

Finished listening. All three topics were very great to listen to. Even when the subject matter strayed a little off topic, you guys managed to keep the conversation interesting and engaging.

@roykoopa64

Actually, I had planned on writing a review, but it always seems time is an issue. Heck, I hardly ever get to play videogames when I am home anymore. Seems like I get more gaming done while I am at work, which is pathetic.

Plus, I either seem to love a game or hate it, but I typically don't buy games that I would hate. I guess what I am saying is most of the games I own I would probably rate a 9 or higher. Little things like framerate, ect just do not bother me that much. Just not sure how helpful my reviews would be. Of course I could just go with a written review and go over the pluses and cons of the game. People would then have to go by that in deciding if they would want to purchase the game.

Fink mentioned his experience with TMNT2: The Arcade Game and how he deeply loved playing it with company. It reminded me of a tale that I forgot to tell during the recording ...

When that arcade game was still in the arcades I was a young pup who still had to ask his mommy for cash to play. One day, I begged her to let me play the game and she begrudgingly gave me $2 to do so. The game's cabinet was right at the edge of the arcade so my mom went and sat on a bench outside and could still keep an eye on me. So, I started playing and another kid started playing a few minutes later. The game cost $0.50 per play, which meant I would have 4 plays with my 2 bucks. The other kid ran out of cash before I was done with my first life so I gave him $1 because it was worth MORE than half of MY experience to get a COOPERATIVE experience for (theoretically) HALF the time.

So .... yea.... I can relate....

PS - My mom saw me give the money away. .... she yelled.... a lot. *shrug*

Disclaimer: My mom rocks. Don't judge her too harsh on one moment of irrational shouting.

Listening now. Good job guys. I'm particularly interested in that golf game now.

Something is driving me nuts, though: Stephen talking about Kid Icarus as if it's a Sin & Punishment skin. It's really not! Part of the gameplay is similar, the 5 minutes long flying segments, but most of the game plays completely differently. You really should look into the game more, Stephen.

@Guillaume

To be honest, I do remember him talking about Kid Icarus, but I was getting extremely tired, hence me not saying much the latter half of the podcast..but yea, KI really is nothing like Sin and Punishment, except for the flying parts like Guy mentioned. I probably wasn't paying close enough attn during that part or I probably would have interjected with some of my own feedback.

It is kindof strange I was getting tired cause usually Im more awake in the evenings than any other part of the day since I am a night owl.

Great podcast guys. I've listened through it a couple times so far (yeah - I really need to download another audiobook).

I found myself relating to DrFinkelstein and Ninsage when they discussed the negativity surrounding Mario Sunshine and Other M. I really liked both games but all the negative comments definitely affected my experience with the game while playing (Other M) or my memories of the game (Sunshine). I wasn't a huge deal for me because I've learned to just go with what I personally like but to say I wasn't affected would be untrue.

Probably the most memorable / sig worthy line on the podcast was uttered by DrFinkelstein @48:03 "I went to feel my Wii to see if it felt warm and it's not there"

As I get older, I get less and less excited about new game releases as well, but I find that it isn't unique to gaming. I am, in general, a less excitable being than I used to be. It's not that I enjoy gaming or life less, just that I've grown calmer with age.

Hey, GameWizard and NinSage! Way to get in there!

Wow, 27 COURSES? Thats like..a TON of holes! Sounds pretty lengthy. I'm reminded a lot of Super Swing Golf, and the Pangya-type series. It sounds pretty good, from what you've said, they're pretty similar. Have you guys played that series at all?

In any event, nice to hear someone else talking about sports games. Good on ya.

I agree with Fink on the topic of leaderboards; I like the Mario Kart Wii friends leaderboard, but the Worldwide leaderboard is..useless? All of the top spots are taken by people who found a way to glitch stuff. That..really bothers me. Quite ashamed of those people.

Sending off my Wii was weird, too. I can't even really explain it to someone who hasn't been through it. My Wii wasn't "dead" yet..but its kind of like I was taking it to be euthanized, or something. I was wrapping it so carefully, wrapping it in saran wrap; its a weird feeling. When it came back, my information-- (listening; not having an Okami-related heart attack though! I just had the Club, I'm not a super-fan! ..It IS a good game though...) -- my data had been completely wiped. I dunno, it was weird. And then people were like-- Mop it up is a girl?? What in the world is going on! Stop blowing my mind, podcast!

Can I finish this sentence? Sending your Wii off is not a fun feeling. If you guys are able to send it away, and you get it back in better condition / retained information, consider yourself extremely fortunate.

@Mr_Mustache

No, its only 27 holes. My bad if I said there was 27 courses, which I probably did. Like I mentioned in the podcast, the description for the game states there are 81 holes...but really, its just the same 27 holes, with coins added for the next level and then on the last level there is more obstacles added to the original 27 holes.

There is only 3 courses w/ 9 holes each...America, European and the Asian course. Sorry again if I got anyones hopes up for 27 courses.

Someone pointed out to me that my Mario Party 9 review was mentioned here, by Gamewizard65, I think? Sorry if I have it mixed up, I'm bad with differentiating electronic voices. Anyways, you say you don't agree with parts of my review but I don't think you mentioned which parts those were. The stuff you did mention was in line with my thoughts, so I was wondering, what didn't you agree with?

@Mop it up

Sorry, wasn't me. I have not even played the game.

@gamewizard65 Was it Dr.Finkelstein then? The voice seems different than the three at the beginning...
