Epic Mickey 2 for Wii is a Musical

Below is a news story from ONM

Epic Mickey 2: The Power Of Two has been announced for Wii, but the follow-up to the 2010 adventure sounds very different as producer Warren Spector has confirmed that it will be a musical.

Explaining his decision to include singing and voice acting, Spector told the San Francisco Chronicle: "I'm such a geek about musicals. I love the co-op and next-gen stuff, but for me, when a character breaks into song, which they do on a regular basis in this game, it's magic."

Yet, it's not all change. We're back in the Wasteland, the home of forgotten Disney characters and some locations from the original will return, although they have been damaged by earthquakes.

Paint and thinner, which was central to Epic Mickey, will return as Mickey will be armed with his magical scenery-altering brush and your actions in the game will again have a bearing on the outcome.

However, this time there is drop-in, drop-out co-op gameplay as Oswald the Rabbit - armed with a special remote control that commands electricity - joins forces with Mickey. We can see that working well with the Wii Remote.

Also, Spector has promised that his team is working hard on improving the camera for the sequel.

"We've had a team working on the camera from literally the day we finished the first game," said Spector. "They'll be working on it until the day we ship the second game. (There have been) over 1,000 specific changes made to the camera. Our goal is that you will not have to touch the manual camera controls even once to play through the main story path of this game."

According to Official Nintendo Magazine France, Epic Mickey 2 is also coming to 3DS.

Epic Mickey 2 will be released for Wii this Autumn. Are you looking forward it? Do you like the idea of it being a musical?

- original sold 1.3 million copies in North America
- choices will affect what happens
- due for release this fall
- songs and music will change based on whether gamers prompt Mickey to be well-mannered or mischievou
- coming to Wii, 360, PS3
- fixing the camera issues from the first game
- Mickey will be returning to the Wasteland
- revisit some areas, but they've been changed by earthquakes and other disasters

Uh what? How's it a musical? Like Parappa? Fuck does a "musical" game mean unless it's a music rythm game??

Very confused. And this better be coming to Wii U. Better fuckin' better. Better not be announced cuz NDAs or something. And it being on 3, maybe 4 platforms is kinda scary. Especially since I wonder how graphics will look. Will PS360 versions look merely higher res?

So again, does this play like the original or not? And does Mickey have a voice? Or just Oswald?

@carlosrox

Sounds like there'll be songs either in cutscenes or gameplay. Think Conker's "Great Mighty Poo" or some of the songs from the LucasArts adventure games.

I'm all for it, myself, I think more games should have sung songs.

That'd be cool then. But advertising the game as a musical (same goes for Disney movies) is hilariously inaccurate. No main Disney feature is a true musical. They can have lots of songs in them, but they're not musicals. Grease is a musical. Disney movies aren't. Don't care what Disney says. Hope the same is true for this game, I assume it is. Saying "the game is a musical" is stupid though.

If its like Conker where people randomly break out into song or has cut scenes with songs then I'm fine. Let's just not go overboard with it though.

Wii U or no buy, Mr. Spector! My new TV sucks and SD signal looks like a blurry jagged mess.

Who or what is a Frank Welker?

@carlosroxI've only heard that it involves a lot of chaffing

@carlosrox

He generally does, like, 95% of animal noises in American cartoons. He's also well known for voicing some characters like Nibbler in Futurama. Apparently he voiced Oswald in the first Epic Mickey too.

I'm curious why you don't think Disney movies are musicals though.

I'm not a fan of musicals, but this being a love letter to old Disney movies, this just makes sense, and makes a perfect fit.

What about Newsies. I'm pretty sure that, a feature Disney film, was absolutely a musical.

OMG WHAT. This makes perfect sense, now I might have to try out the original.

Musicals are definitely my thing.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first but what the heck, I'm going to give this a shot. I really hope it comes to Wii U, otherwise I'll buy the PS3 version.

@carlosrox

I'm thinking this might be a "de Blob" scenario where music changes to fit the mood of whatever it is that you're doing.

How the fuck are Disney movies not musicals? That's like saying the Lethal Weapon movies don't count as action films.
