VVVVVV, eh? I've heard good things about it, but have no idea what exactly it is. Guess I'll have to give it a look.

And whoo! Bionic Commando! Would have been nice to have back when ReArmed came out, but... whatever.

EDIT: Oh wait, is that Bionic Commando the one from the Gameboy?

I checked out a video on VVVVVV but it doesn't seem THAT interesting or fun to play... but rebonack has been doing nothing but praising it in between the swearing and bitching from all the deaths I might end up checking it out to see what's so great about it.

I was a recent VVVVVV convert. I wasn't interested in it but the soundtrack and actually playing it instantly sucked me in.

It's worth playing and you will find it challenging. I beat it in a little over two hours, though they say the eShop version has new content to add another five hours to it, five hours of content I didn't get from my mac version. Some people might be disappointed in the end for paying as much as it is for the amount of game inside, BUT the game inside is pretty damn good. Deceptively simple but very challenging. It was a rush from start to finish and I say, if you don't wanna play it on your PC or Mac, buy this one. Buy it now!

VVVVVV is difficult to describe. I've been trying to write a review about it for a few days and I'm having trouble It's a puzzle platformer, except instead of jumping you flip gravity so you fall upward (similar to Antipole on DSiWare if you played that?). It's got some non-linear exploration (since you can go anywhere in the world at any time, and there are 20 optional trinkets to find) but it's not quite like Metroid or anything since there's no enemies and no upgrades. It's challenging like Super Meat Boy, but it doesn't play quite like it since you don't actually jump.

Oh, and the music is fantastic.

It's pretty short though, so if you're looking for something lengthy, VVVVVV might not be it. I love short games though, and though I just played through it a couple of days ago I'm gonna buy it and play through it again.

If anybody bought the latest Humble Bundle (or the one before that) it was included in that, and the controls are simple enough to play on a keyboard. It's definitely not something that requires a controller, since it really only uses three buttons.

Dev/publisher estimates are often generous, but still. That's something.

By pure chance, I just started playing VVVVVV on PC yesterday and it is pretty awesome. Great music, challenging but addictive, pretty much all you could want in a short indie title. That said, I would be very wary about buying it for 3DS. The controls work perfectly on a keyboard and I can't imagine they translate well to either the slidepad or the 3DS's crappy DPad. Maybe they let you use the face buttons as the principal buttons (left, right and flip), but even that would probably be awkward for people used to controlling movement on the left side.

Considering it's also much cheaper on PC (less than $2), I'd definitely wait for more impressions and reviews before I took the plunge. Or maybe just buy it for PC to see if you like it (since any PC could run it, not sure about Macs). Just my two cents.

Crappy d-pad? Whaaat? I've been using that d-pad to whup up on people since launch day in SUPER Street Fighter 4. What's wrong with the d-pad, exactly? It's the same kind of d-pad in every Nintendo system!

Also, as mentioned by both @DrFinkelstein and @Guillaume, the eShop version of VVVVVV has extra content not seen in the PC/Mac versions. The added price may be justified. Just FYI.

Yea, I saw, but I'm saying it won't hurt to plop down $1.24 (that's the exact price) to check out the game and see if you like it at all. If you don't like it, extra content doesn't really matter. Plus I'm just warning about the controls. I'm sure some people will buy it here and weigh in with their opinions.

But yea, the D-Pad is shit.

Gotta be Game Boy. The GB Bionic Commando is supposed to be very good. I have it, but I haven't played much. Maybe I'll pick it up. Oh, who am I kidding? I'm a complete Bionic Commando whore! (There's still the NST GBC game, too.)

VVVVV... I don't knowwwww... I didn't really enjoy the demo that much. Is it 3D, though? That's kind of cool, I guess.

Hard to put my finger on it (or thumb, heyo!) but I just compared it to the Wiimote D-Pad which I love and it protrudes less and definitely snaps down less when pushed. Instead, the whole thing kind of bends over to the direction I'm pushing. Makes it easier for my thumb to slip into another direction and just feels less precise (and that is also my experience since I sucked at Metroid and Zelda for NES playing with it)

Hm. I can see what you're saying about the d-pad protrudes less (that's kinda standard since the GBA SP), but the rest of the stuff I've not had a problem with. I don't want to call user error on this... I mean, it's a friggin' d-pad, I'm sure you know how to use it, lol. I wonder if your 3DS has faulty construct? Or I got lucky with mine and it's built better? Or something?

I dunno, but Street Fighter requires some very precise d-pad inputs to play properly. I can play that game just as well on my 3DS as I can on my PS3.

Sorry to hear your d-pad experience sucks. Nothing's more irritating than imprecise controls. Just ask me about it when I'm trying to play Super Meat Boy on 360, lol.

Well maybe not EVERYONE but a lot of people don't like it from what I've seen. I remember my dislike for it started around the time I downloaded Link's Awakening. I think it's cause it requires too much pressure to press the diagonals. Not that it's HARD but if just feels uncomfortable to use it really. I imagine for something like VVVVVV it would be fine since it only uses 4 directions but for everything else, I'd use the circle pad.

3DS d-pad sucks. Everybody knows this.

I disliked it playing Link's Awakening on it a little bit, and I haven't used it since. I use the circle pad for everything -- new games, VC games, everything.

Actually VVVVVV only uses two directions (Unless you use up or down to flip gravity )
