Why not sign up for a (free) account?

@Zero

I was lucky enough to avoid school loans (Louisiana has a nice program called TOPS that helps pay for tuition if you're above a certain GPA), but I definitely can attest to debt interest in terms of house mortgages. That's the kind of grown-up stuff that I've just learned about (and will learn more about when I move in in June) and the debt that can accumulate is massive. Pay off as much as you can as early as you can, I'd suggest--although it's good to have some money tucked away for emergency situations.

Like, for instance, if you're diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and have to take $1500-a-pop infusions of medicine every eight weeks for the rest of your life.

@GameDadGrant I guess I think about financial things oddly? (Though it makes sense to me.) Because of course I'm not sitting there thinking "I'm going to buy this game just to get coins!" but they are a (small) factor. Like when I pay $20 for a game or whatever, I think about everything I'm getting, which includes the coins. So they're not "free" to me, they're... some undefined part of that $20? $1 maybe? 50 cents? Whatever the case they hold some kind of vague cost in my mind, so it is tough to think that I'm getting "free" stuff with them.

Although it goes beyond this really, because I'm starting to think of financial things as going way beyond actual things. Time comes into my equations a lot. Like "if I spend 20 minutes driving to go pick up a game that I could have spent at working making money or home doing something that I want to do..." It drives me crazy actually. I kind of envy people with a more simple view.

I can see where you're coming from. It's not really odd, and now that you KNOW you're getting coins for your purchases, it's probably something you have to take into consideration.

On a related note, I recently picked up Steel Diver (used) at Gamestop the other day. Got for a cool $20. But before I bought it, I logged into Club Nintendo on my iPhone and entered in the Club Nintendo code to make sure I was getting Coins for my purchase. If the code came back as already having been used, I wasn't going to buy the game. Well... I take that back. Actually I probably still would have bought it, since I think $20 for that game is the perfect price. But since the Club Nintendo code *DID* work, it was an even better purchase in my eyes. I got to save money, AND I got Club Nintendo Coins! Bonus!

So yeah, I see where you're coming from.

I bought Steel Diver new for 20 bucks 9 months ago...

It's $7.99 new at amazon.com right now.

@Zero I feel the same way. Whenever I'm about to buy a game for any system, I think, what do I get as a total package and can I get the same later for a better price. Therefore, Nintendo games usually beat out games for other systems because of the added value of the Coins. Of course, sometimes I really want to play a game immediately like Arkham City and Assassin's Creed, which will usually beat out the value of the coins. If I've already reached the Platinum threshold for the year, then I can relax on buying Nintendo games and focus on other consoles. It's actually a brilliant move by Nintendo because it persuades the gamer into buying their games first for full price. I just hope this year's Platinum reward doesn't suck.

Here are the monetary values for each game:

Art Style: Pictobits (DSiWare) - 150 points - $5
Snowpack Park (Wiiware) - 150 points - $8
3D Classics: Urban Champion (Nintendo 3DS) - 150 points - $4.99
Eco Shooter: Plant 530 (WiiWare) - 200 points - $10

Grabbed Pictobits. Might come back for Eco Shooter later, but 200 coins is a lot to gamble on what could be a stinker.

Eco Shooter review

Snowpack Park review

Actually, Snowpack Park is a good value at 150 coins for an $8 game. Gonna grab that tonight. I'll pass on Eco Shooter since it's single player only (why in the world leave out co-op from a lightgun shooter?).

@anon_mastermind

Nice! $8 is an even better price!

Speaking of Steel Diver (again), I was just thinking that when Nintendo starts putting their retail games up on the eShop, I'm quite likely to sell my physical copy of the game and just download a digital copy. Steel Diver is a fun little game, but I think it'd be even better as a downloadable. (which I'm pretty sure that's how it started of as)

@GameDadGrant

Are they putting old games up? I thought it was just all older games from NSMB2 onwards.

Picked up Pictobits. Played thru the first 5 levels and tried out Dark 1. Don't know if that really needs a spoiler, but why not. I started playing it w/out going thru the tutorials. I thought you had to build 2x2 blocks, not just total of 4 (ie 4 horizontal). It just started to click with me, glad everyone recommended. Can't beat it for free. Kinda wish I would have jumped on Excite Bike.

@Mop it up
Wasn't Eco Shooter $15? We should start giving a Dollars/Point ratio. Or maybe a Points/Dollar ratio.

@GameDadGrant
It started as a demo for the original Project Nitro!

@anon_mastermind I got it for $5 at Best Buy awhile back.

Not trying to make Grant feel bad.

@Anand I didn't check the actual shop, but Wikipedia says it's 1,000 points.

ECO Shooter is weird. It's clearly shovelware. At least it doesn't take itself seriously, that's about the only plus I can think of.

The game is a whole three level short, and very little enemy variety. I can't imagine anyone wishing the game were longer, though.

@Anand

Wait, Project Nitro? Wasn't that the code name for the original DS? Geez. Took 'em long enough to get that game out!

@Zero

$5 for Steel Diver? That's fantastic!

@Guillaume

That's disappointing to hear. Could Nintendo really not give us a better selection of WiiWare this month? Sheesh.

I'll be honest, so far I have been disappointed in the selections Nintendo has given since this thing started. Now, at the beginning it was cool that Majora's Mask was offered. What sucked about that was, we just ended up doing the Secret Santa think here on NW. I had mentioned wanting Majora's Mask or Paper Mario.

I ended up getting Majaro's Mask as my SS gift, which was waaay cool. But right after that or maybe it even started right before everyone gifted, is when Club Nintendo offered up Majora's Mask. I was kindof bummed, cause had I known that was going to happen, I would have asked for Paper Mario and then I could have downloaded MM with my points and had both games.

As it stands, the only game I have used my Club Nintendo coins on is Mario's Picross. I never played one of those picross game before and I saw where many people here on NW was saying good things about the game. Now, don't get me wrong, the game is cool. Though I wish it was in color and I wish the grid was a tad bigger. I don't feel that I wasted the coins, but had there been a demo of the game, I would not have downloaded it. So, all you Mario Picross lovers out there, please don't hate me too much about being down on the game.

I almost downloaded the ExciteBike World Rally game, but Im not a huge fan of the original Excite Bike. Yea, its cool the game offers online play, but since I have Mario Kart 7, if I am going to play a racing game online, it will be MK7. I just wish Nintendo would offer up some bigger hit titles. Or why not pick more to choose from. Like say 10 games per month, hell even 20 would be cool. From the way things have been looking, it appears Nintendo is offering up games that maybe are not selling that well.

That Ecco shooter game looks cool, but there are not many people that have really good things to say about the game. I checked out Metacritic and all the reviews say the game is average at best.

Also, I have plenty of coins, but still, I want to download a game that I will want to play. And I don't want to download a 3 level game that will be over after a few hours. Still, even after all the reviews, ect on the game, I am still a bit intrigued. THough, I feel, once I download it, I will be like, ugg, I knew in my heart this game would suck.

@gamewizard65

The selections haven't always been awesome, but I think there are plenty of good picks here and there. Heck, this month Nintendo is offering ART STYLE: PiCTOBiTS for free! That's amazing, seriously one of the best puzzle games ever.

And some of the first few games were awesome too, like Fluidity and Mario vs Donkey Kong. Getting Xevious for free was a nice bonus, too.

I dunno, I don't think it's been all that bad, really. Overall, pretty good I'd say. Not every month is going to blow you away, but in the grand scheme of things, I don't think we can really complain. They're free games, after all!

So far I've been happy to download Super Mario Kart, Mario Party 2, Kirby's Dreamland and Mario's Picross.

I also got Art Style Academy: First Semester, and it's a useful tutor for drawing, but it's not a good "game per se.

I also got 3D Classics Xevious as a "gift" and it is just merely OK. Nothing special at all (though the 3D is deep as hell).

So, in conclusion, I hate you for not being in love with picross

Received my Goomba Surprise Box today...in a regular envelope.

I got the red reversible pouch and the Peach&Mario notebook. 500 coin value for 300 coins. Not too shabby.

@GameDadGrant

Well, that Artstyle: Pictobits kindof reminds me of Mario's Picross...so, if it is similar, I don't want it. Yes, there has been a few good games, like you mentioned, Fluidity(already have it, you got that for me last year as Secret Santa gift), Mario vs DK( we just got that gba Mario vs DK as an ambassador game) Xevious(us, not really interested in this game)

I just think a few more games should be added to the mix. I really have no reason to complain. I already own too many games and I keep going out and buying more just adding to my backlog. But, if I wasn't complaining, I wouldn't be happy.

All Nintendo needs to do is offer up Paper Mario and I will stop my complaining. Until then, I'll gonna keep whining.
