Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Crap...I just bought Pictobits a month ago!

While it's nice that Nintendo gives away free games, I hate how I have to second guess every purchase now.

Neat! 2 games I never really considered buying before (Snowpark and ECO), I'll have to read up on them.

For free, I'm perfectly fine giving games that got middling reviews a shot.

I spent coins in urban champion and I still have 1200. I may get pictobits. I use to have it on my DSiXL but tht was stolen. I may have to buy that as well!

I got Pictobits, pretty cool game!

Question about expiring coins: it said I have 310 coins expiring end of June. I redeemed 150 just now for Pictobits, but it still says I have 310 expiring end of June.

What do I have to do to redeem those 310? Use up all my coins? I figured if I spent 310 from now til June it would redeem those expiring points...

@Griptor

That would seem to make sense. Strange that even after you spent coins, you still had the same amount that was going to expire. I'm not sure how that works.

In any case, I may pick up 3D Classics: Urban Champion. Just... because. I hear it's a bad game, but I've got coins to burn and after I download it, I'll own all the 3D Classics. Something about having ALL the games on my system at once is appealing, for some reason.

Maybe I'll look into those WiiWare games. I already own PiCTOBiTS (everyone should play this game! It's awesome!) so if the Wii ones are decent, maybe I'll spend more coins.

It would be fun if I didn't already own Pictobits

I had Pictobits on my DSi, which was stolen years ago. I wish you could use these codes on a DSi/XL, but I'll certainly take a free copy on my 3DS!

Pictobits rules, everyone should buy it.

Pictobits? It's surely their best selling Art Style game on DSiWare, why are they putting that up?

I may check out Snowpack Park. I've always been curious about it.

@Guillaume It's not free though, there is opportunity cost. Anything I take now might stop me from taking something better in the future, arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

@Zero

It's essentially free. And to be honest, everything "better" on Wiiware, I already own.

Yeah but they're giving out handheld games too.

Anyway, I do agree that giving games out this way makes it more likely that I'll pick up something I passed over before.

I'd totally call it free. Besides, I have 1100 coins, and still haven't registered all the games I own, so I'm not too worried about missing out on a future reward.

This is the first month they haven't hit something on my Wii Ware or VC wishlist. I might throw Pictobits on my son's DSi.

Unlike some of you with your thousands and thousands of coins, I've got a current balance of 210 (with 30 more available for post-purchase surveys). So I need to conserve a bit.

@rebonack

Yeah, it's FINANCIALLY free. You're getting rewards for stuff you were buying anyway.

@Zero's right though, anything you redeem from Club Nintendo is an opportunity cost.

It's a cost, but different. For some of us, it won't really matter since we have a lot of Club Nintendo Coins saved up, and will have more in the future. But at least we don't have to pay "out-of-pocket" for these rewards. (unless I suppose, one is going out of his or her way to buy games simply to earn more coins...)

@GameDadGrant I guess I think about financial things oddly? (Though it makes sense to me.) Because of course I'm not sitting there thinking "I'm going to buy this game just to get coins!" but they are a (small) factor. Like when I pay $20 for a game or whatever, I think about everything I'm getting, which includes the coins. So they're not "free" to me, they're... some undefined part of that $20? $1 maybe? 50 cents? Whatever the case they hold some kind of vague cost in my mind, so it is tough to think that I'm getting "free" stuff with them.

Although it goes beyond this really, because I'm starting to think of financial things as going way beyond actual things. Time comes into my equations a lot. Like "if I spend 20 minutes driving to go pick up a game that I could have spent at working making money or home doing something that I want to do..." It drives me crazy actually. I kind of envy people with a more simple view.

@Zero

Well, as you get more financially secure, you should start caring less about saving pennies. Whole dollars, even!

Therein lies the rub, me getting more financially secure? An interesting idea.

Actually Shirley and I were just talking about this and how our limited income has led to certain attitudes (she is also very frugal, much more than me even) that will probably help us avoid some of the pitfalls that a lot of people fall into once we do get on our feet and have more income. But this kind of requires taking the attitude that I won't start caring less about saving money just because I have more of it! I don't want to end up like friends of mine who make 2-3x as much as me and still basically live paycheck to paycheck. I don't see any point in making more money if I'm not going to be banking a significant portion of it. I'm already pretty comfortable with my lifestyle other than living with my aunt so I don't need to make more in order to move into some more expensive "better" way of living.

Although I would like a nice home music studio someday. Nothing super expensive. A modest one.

It's actually sort of tough to imagine becoming more financial secure though. I'm like borderline incapable of holding a serious job over a long amount of time...

This is why I need to turn Negative World profitable! Ha!

@Zero

I dunno, I don't think caring less about pennies is a "better" way of living, but it is a sign that your situation affords you more peace of mind.

Just make sure to avoid these pitfalls...

Well I don't actually sit around counting pennies. I do try to find the best price for the things I buy though, and I try not to buy. So maybe in my mind it's something like there are still some WiiWare/DSiWare/3DSWare games that I know I want, so picking up a "free" game I don't really want wastes my coins and then I might have to buy the games I do want with real money or whatever. But then again, looking at some of these lists, I may never run out of coins...

Anyway yeah, reading the list is interesting. #5. Shirley and I are definitely health conscious, although cost conscious too... there is a balance there. We pretty much buy as much fresh stuff as we can eat though. #4. God no, this is exactly what I'm talking about! Even with my limited income I bank so much of it. But I mean, I can't live paycheck to paycheck, it'd drive me insane. This is why I live with relatives when I could get out on my own... because I need to be putting money away or I feel weird and uncomfortable. #3. Ha ha definitely not, I'm stingy. #2. Hmm, maybe... not really though. I actually have a fair amount of money saved up and I never quite know how much. #1. Oh gosh no, again, this is what I'm talking about! People don't think ahead.

See, the thing is, I'm not poor. I mean, I don't make a lot, but I don't have to pay rent at the moment so I'm not living paycheck to paycheck or anything. Which means I don't have to get into a lot of these bad habits.

Now, about paying off my $33,000 in school loans... ug. Maybe I will end up paycheck to paycheck for awhile. But see, my cousin was talking about having 20 years to do it, without acknowledging that if you take 20 years to pay off your school loans you end up paying 2-3 times as much. That's ridiculous! I'm going to try to knock these f-ers out ASAP precisely because I do think longterm.

Damn, three expensive games that I'm mildly interested in! I wish they hadn't raised the prices... I'd definitely get Eco if it weren't 200 Points. Why is Nintendo so adamant about premium pricing that one?

So NOBODY here got Snowpack Peak? Or Snowpeak Park, or whatever? Who's going to bite the April bullet? Mikey, you like bullets...

EDIT: Heh, you already responded.

@Griptor
I'm pretty sure your oldest coins get used up first. I'd call Nintendo to see what's going on.
