It’s man vs. machine in a new game coming to Nintendo’s Wii™ console in spring. Xenoblade Chronicles™ asks players to use the Monado blade to take on a seemingly endless series of invading Mechon robots in a sweeping role-playing adventure.
The main character is Shulk, a weapons researcher who must confront the Mechon by wielding the ancient Monado blade. It’s the only weapon that has any effect against the Mechon, and it also enables Shulk to see the future.
Players can customize their characters with a variety of weapons and armor choices, as well as headgear, boots and gloves. As in many role-playing games, players can then gain experience and upgrade their characters. Players can watch their enemies, learn their tactics and unleash real-time counterattacks.
The vast open world of Xenoblade Chronicles is ripe for exploration. Players can avert their focus from the main story and venture out looking for other challenges and side quests. Hidden areas and unique monsters are scattered throughout the game’s massive world, which players can explore freely.
Xenoblade Chronicles has already launched in Japan and Europe, and has received unanimously positive reviews, including several perfect scores.
Xenoblade Chronicles will be available exclusively through U.S. GameStop retail locations, http://www.gamestop.com and http://www.nintendo.com at a suggested retail price of $49.99 in the United States. Additional information about the game will be announced in the future. For more information, visit http://xenobladechronicles.nintendo.com.
Awesome, so it's official official? With preorders happening so soon, maybe I'll preorder it to claim a copy and then I'll worry about paying it off later. I don't have money for another $50 game right now but still, I've heard so much about this game, that I am happy I can play it without having to pay for importing and deal with modding.
I updated the listing at the Game Database with some new information and such (somewhat copied from wikipedia) but still, people, go update your database on this game! I made it so I wanted it! Cool thing is that I'll be able to easily make it "Now Playing" in a little while.
@DrFinkelstein I doubt that there will be a limited supply...Nintendo will print the number of copies they need based on the preorders. I think you should be able to safely preorder at any time.
Makes sense. To announce this so early (when in theory there's nothing to do to it localization-wise) then maybe that's all they're doing... waiting to see the pre-orders.

They will probably tweak a few things in the text and hopefully add american voice acting.
The good news is that this will be available to more people.
The bad news is that by limiting the release as they have it seems much less likely I'll be able to find a new copy for cheap down the road. Gamestop barely ever discounts new games it seems because they don't want to compete with their used games.

That's probably exactly why Nintendo partnered with Gamestop.
I'm confused by this. Is it being localized at all, or just being ported to work with Western (unhacked) Wiis? Either way, it seems like a weird decision to take what is by all accounts one of the absolute best games on your platform and give it a super limited release. Especially if they're spending money to localize it (although I suspect that they are not, hence not releasing it in mainstream retail.) And especially since there is probably going to be jack else for NOA to talk about for most of next year on the Wii.
And yeah, Gamestop, which means it will take a long, long time to be less than $49.99, if it ever gets there. At least there will be used NA versions of the game to buy up on eBay eventually or something. Or maybe nab up a used copy as part of a B2G1 free at Gamestop. But I have a feeling used copies will be uber rare.
I'd say everyone should preorder the hell out of this game so that Nintendo decides to release it for real, but at this point who even cares? So I guess overall this is good news, but NOA is handling this in a piss poor manner like usual. What a completely blown chance.
