Yes, really: it's another Negative World Podcast episode. Guillaume can't believe what a jerk Jim Sterling is and discusses BloodRayne Betrayal, Paleo returns after a long absence to talk about Fragile Dreams, and newcomer Chris "Rebonack" Dunn has decided to check out this TMNT fad all the kids are into with TMNT3 on the Game Boy. (You can hear even more of his ramblings on the tvandlust.net podcast!)

They then discuss what makes someone stick with games one finds mediocre, being obsessed about a particular game, and what makes a good superhero video games. Side conversations include drawing sexy pictures of Sonic and being pigeonholed into a topic by Guillaume!

As usual, the theme music comes from Negative World's owner and dictator, Zero. The wonderful music throughout the podcast is taken from Super Mario Galaxy.

Comment on the topics, the podcast, the guests, the host, etc. on Negative World! Or, be a weirdo and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.

Cool. Downloading now while making dinner.

Alright, I listened to the first segment and I don't sound nearly as awkward as I think I do. And my voice sounds completely different from what I hear in my head...

When I was younger, I always thought I had missed out because I played Turtles III on GB, and everyone else had played one of the first two. It turns out I had lucked out... And for more of my thoughts on Turtles III (including many of the same thoughts), check out my review! The game's really awesome, it's a shame it'll never come out on the VC.

@rebonack I always listen to the ones I'm on. And hear a bunch of things I didn't hear the first time around because I'm too busy thinking about what to say next to pay attention to everything people are saying, apparently.

This was fun. I hope other people enjoy it!

I had fun too. I hope I can be on again sometime!

Alright, there was a long pause at the end and then the end theme played, but that was a mistake. I fixed it. Thanks Paleo!

@rebonack

So do I!

So... you guys don't think I'm a jerk for that opening? Haha, couldn't stop laughing. There was 2-3 of those instances when both you guys went "really!?" at something I said, I couldn't help but put them back to back to back.

I forgot to mention it on the podcast, but I think I agree with you about Mario & Luigi. I don't dislike Paper Mario as much as you, but I do prefer Mario & Luigi. Those games are hilarious, and I think they make the battles really interesting because of the mechanic of using the two brothers together.

I really do say really and wow too much.

Good music choices, Gui!

EDIT: I think part of the reason Batman turned out so well is that it wasn't tied into anything specific. It didn't have to be out in time for a movie or anything like that, unlike say, Sega's Thor and Iron Man games, so they could take as long as they needed to get it right.

Downloaded, but I still haven't finished episode 17. I blame student teaching for everything else.

Machinarium is the most recent game I've started that I liked but just didn't feel like finishing.

I'm playing through Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions right now, and it's really fun! It kind of feels like a faster less polished Arkham Asylum when it comes to the combat and stealth sections. The bosses are fun too.

Thanks for the mention at the end of the podcast, the wife and I are happy that the wedding left such a huge impression on everyone. And of course, the music Guillaume selected was very appropriate.

And congrats Chris, less than 3 months to go before your own big day!

As for the topics, I wouldn't have much to add. I've never had any major obsession with a particular game that I can think of. My main general obsession as a kid was with the TMNT, but that was definitely the thing to like back in the late 80s. And how fitting that the third Game Boy game was brought up in this episode. Alas, I never played it, but I heard great things about in Nintendo Power.

Guillaume, thanks for the mention! We'll be looking forward to Chris' wedding, best wishes!

I haven't posted much, only because I haven't been able to play much Nintendo lately. Busy times!

@Snorlax @roykoopa64 Thanks for the well wishes! And I wish you both a wonderful life together!

@Secret_Tunnel Shattered Dimensions is definitely less polished than Arkham Asylum, and it apes a lot of the ideas in that game (talent from the various animated series, spider sense = detective mode, stealth elements, etc). Still, it's one of those games I'd say is good for a superhero game. It's not on the level of Batman (which is a fantastic game - period.) but it's fun for what it is.

Finished the podcast last night. Good stuffs all around, and I love TMNT, so any discussion of it is always an awesome thing. I will mention, however, that there was no mention of the Capcom-developed Marvel games, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse and Marvel War of the Gems. I don't think many would consider them better than the Genesis versions, but I enjoyed each thoroughly. It was quite entertaining for a sidescrolling beat 'em up with Street Fighter input moves, much of which influenced many of the characters' moves in the Marvel vs Capcom games.

I rented Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems, and I think it was pretty alright. Don't remember much about it though.

@Guillaume

I'm no martyr!

Getting on a podcast would be difficult for me anyway... I've still got a (fairly) newborn in the house. It's rarely quiet here, not a good environment for recording.

I liked the discussion on super hero games, though. Those old 16-bit games (like Batman and Maximum Carnage) were fun for what they were, but they were really just as you guys said - beat-em-ups that didn't really define the super heroes the games were supposed to be based off of.
