Super Mario 3D Land will use Streetpass for the exchange of items and other things and assist blocks will provide special items inside levels. The information was derived from the back of dummy packages from the Japanese versions of the game.

I didn't thank you, I thanked God. Unless...

@warerare

It's a power-up, which means it's taking up a slot for the items that can be used in the game. That slot could be better spent on a real power-up.

Anyway, if people want a win button, Nintendo could implement one without taking up an item slot.

My problem isn't being able to ignore it, but it being a power-up in the first place. If it was some post-content special thing (like the flying power-up in Super Mario Galaxy), that'd be different, but I doubt that's the case.

@casper884

Doesn't assist block mean like the Super Guide in NSMBW? If so, maybe you can only get the P-wing if you die 8 times on the same level or something.

@Jargon

Now that I'd be perfectly fine with. I just don't want it being used as a main item.

Oh please. Streetpass is an awesome feature. I want as many titles to support it as possible.

I've had a 3DS since launch and I still don't even understand street pass.

Statues and flight? Statues and flight!? NOW they're adding them? Way to make me look like an idiot, Nintendo!

Haha. Hey, it's still a great comic!

@Hinph
Seriously? What don't you get?

My only experiences with it so far were racing people's ghosts in Ridge Racer, fighting their AI in DOA, and getting their character/dog in Nintendogs, but those were all very cool. It would be good to be able to exchange that stuff online with Friends, but it's also neat when you get a surprise from a stranger.

This game will be magical.

Maybe he doesn't live in a densely populated area. I didn't understand it either until someone moved in next to me with a 3DS and I was able to see it in action.

It is definitely something that can't be judged before trying it though. And as the userbase increases more people will be able to.

Yeah, I hope the 3DS blows up, if only to get much, much more out of the social features. Which were probably meant more for Japan, anyway. I think they'll really help the momentum over there continue to build. Especially with Tomodatchi Collection and Girls Mode, and such.

By the way, weirdest use of Street Pass: Viral leaderboards in Ridge Racer. What the hell?

Best trailer yet.

@Anand

Hah, I guess it's not a matter of "getting" it. I just haven't bothered reading up on what it specifically does or taking my 3DS anywhere, so it's a pretty unexciting feature for me.

@Guillaume

But...SMB3 is hardcore. And Assist Blocks aren't...but P-Wing skips level...and was in SMB3...and...hardcore...*brain asplodes*

The reused assets bug me. It's nit-picky I guess, but the big coins and mid level markers are straight out of NSMBWii. If they were designed even slightly differently I wouldn't be bothered by it so much. I'm weird I guess.

Statue Mario, though. WOOHOO!

This preview doesn't have anything to do with streetpasses and super guides, but I don't think it really warrants its own thread.

Pretty interesting to see Nintendo trying hard to make 3D essential in this game, even as it asks developers not to make it a necessary part of their games.
