Super Mario 3D Land will use Streetpass for the exchange of items and other things and assist blocks will provide special items inside levels. The information was derived from the back of dummy packages from the Japanese versions of the game.

A P-P... P-wing?

@Hinph I hadn't even noticed the P-Wing! Maybe there's flight to the Tanooki suit after all! Starts wild rumors.

I sure hope so. I mean, I wouldn't expect it to function like it does in SMB3, but some flight areas would be nice.

Looking back, the P-Wing was a pretty crummy power-up. Allowing you to bypass a whole level easily? Might as well have made it an insta-win item that skips the tedium of flying over a level.

I hope it's a bit better balanced if it's in this game.

I am going to be really pissed if you can fly in this game. It would be completely broken. This better be post content, otherwise, that's bullshit.

Those were the clouds!

@ploot

But you just skipped the level, you didn't beat it. If you died in the next one, then your cloud was for nothing.

@casper884 But they could limit flying to certain areas, and design those areas for it.

@Guillaume I guess... looking back. At the time though, it was amazing. Uber item!!!

@Guillaume
Died on the next one? Perish the thought. Seriously though, Mario 3 had pretty good balance. The P Wings were very rare (on the first playthrough at least) and the cloud had the chance of being all for naught. What a great game!

Maybe the P-Wing works only on certain levels designed specifically for flying, like the level in SM64 that you can access if you look up at the Castle ceiling from the middle of the first floor hall.

I started laughing very hard... but that was totally a Nintendo joke. Most people on the streets wouldn't get it.

@Zero

But the items in this game are not like Mario Galaxy; those were contextual. In this game, you can keep items, like in the 2D games. Maybe they'll make an exception for this one, but if they don't, it'll be the dumbest thing they've ever done.

@casper884

I don't see the problem, you don't have to use it.

@warerare

I would prefer items that I'm not going to use to be replaced by items that that are actually pertinent to the gameplay.

@casper884

Well what about the people that want to use them to get past particularly tough areas, just because the option doesn't suit you doesn't mean someone else won't want it. I don't think they would have outed a powerup purely to put in the P-wing.

P Wing IS the assist box and you can fly wherever. Heard it here first.

@Simbabbad

Thank god you're here. I might have had to play the game to judge its features.

Is it StreetPass or SpotPass? The two links say different things.
