No, the bees definitely don't kill you. You grab them, but they don't add to your lives total. Hmm.

Turns out it pays off to get the regular bells, I had no idea at first the points would keep doubling. When each of them nets you 100,000 pts, all of a sudden, you don't really want to shoot them.

You know what I hate about Konami shmups? Slow-ass ships and having to pick up power-ups to go at a decent speed. They always pull this crap. Their shmups would be 10x more enjoyable if it weren't for that.

Really? I thought I was killed by a bee. Maybe I was hit by a concurrent bullet. I love the risk reward of grabbing power-ups. And I hate it, as well.

I had totally forgotten that about bells. Good to know.

And, yeah, I always go for 2 or 3 speed boosts first. Having too many makes it kind of a bitch to control with a D-Pad, though. It seems like shmups are a genre that could really benefit from analog control, but that's a rare combo, right?

I used the d-pad until I asked myself "WTF am I doing?" and switched to the circle pad. It's still not analog, but it feels pretty good.

Yeah, I did, too, actually. I just forgot.

Kind of sad, isn't it? That we're so accustomed to using the circle pad for digital games? It kind of baffles me that Nintendo still hasn't settled on a 'definitive' pad/button style yet. Moreso that anyone thought the 3DS versions were an improvement in any way.

@Guillaume I don't have that problem with Twinbee, but it annoys me when playing stuff like Gradius. And if you happen to get hit once, then you're basically fucked.

Maybe I just prefer vertically-oriented shmups?

Did anyone else get a 'notification test' from Nintendo? It was kinda random and just launched me from the notifications menu directly to the eShop.

I guess they're getting ready to roll out promotions and notifications to get more people to visit the eShop.

Yeah I got it earlier today. Got my hopes up for nothing as I was hoping it was to let us know that GBA games were up

Hm, no notification for me. I'll keep an eye out for it, though.

Speaking of the GBA games, we still don't have any idea of when those will be rolled out, do we? Just a vague "before the end of the year" promise, right?

I don't think Nintendo has said anything else about it. But with the next big system update coming out in November, I wonder if that would be when they'd also release the games.

Alright, correction time: the bees that appear when you shoot the bells too many times do kill you. I guess I simply always had the shields when I ran over them.

Aya and the Cubes of Light doesn't sound half bad, actually.

But I still haven't gotten around You, Me and the Cubes yet, so...

Theres an online league?!

Seriously, I'm stupid busy nowadays. I was editing my NCAA rosters for 14 hours the other day. Legit.
I gotta finish that stuff

Alright, Anon_

7,049,900, died at 1-5

I really hate when shmups have a) speed power-ups b) that are essential. Score millions on one life, lose it and your upgrades, lose 10 lives in a minute. Yay.

Hey, nice score! I know that feeling.

Yeah, it's an online league. Mikey and I are the only ones that post scores lately, though. And I've actually missed a couple of days recently. I'd bet that Mikey is really pulling ahead now. Like, WAY ahead.

7,249,500. Stage 2-1. BAM!

I got this score a while ago... just played again tonight and I came shy by 100k while making it to 2-5. I missed so many bells on the earlier stages, I should have restarted. Oh well, at least I made it pretty far.
