Negative World Podcast is evolving! Zero, ploot and Guillaume start by talking about the games they have been playing: Ghost Trick, God of War 3, The Longest Journey, The Legend of Zelda, Space Invaders Extreme 2, Gargoyle's Quest and Demon's Crest! Whew.
As if it weren't enough, they also dig into the topics of the day: how special circumstances may influence our enjoyment of certain games, hacking your Wii and general homebrew talk, and the announced free GBA games for Ambassadors: Mario VS Donkey Kong, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island, Metroid Fusion and WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$.
Tons and tons of content. And bear with us and the poor sound at the beginning: it gets better.
As usual, the theme music comes from Negative World's owner and dictator, Zero. The rest of the soundtrack is taken from Yoshi's Island.
Comment on the topics, the podcast, the guests, the host, etc. on Negative World! Or, be a weirdo and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.
@plootYa know that LetterBomb looks like something even I could do. Thanks!
Going back to the podcast games discussion I enjoyed the Zelda and Zelda II talk. I remember playing Zelda 1 when it first came out - I was like 19. I don't recall having a map (did one come with the game?) and Nintendo Power didn't begin until two years later. I do recall just going around bombing and burning whatever I could. Finally in the last dungeon my mom (yeah I still lived with my mom) got tired of watching me go around in circles and started making a map as I went. She didn't even use graph-paper just regular paper so it looked a bit off =)
Never played Zelda II. I'm in the Water Temple in TP so after that I may get it and play Zelda I & II back to back. Then again I may want a Zelda break by then.
Ok finally finished listening it. Tempted to count how many times I said "like" but scared to know the answer. In all seriousness, I'm going to try to watch myself on this next time. I want to get better at public speaking/etc. anyway, might as well practice on podcasts which are semi-public speaking.
Hmm, I see you put the Desert Bus sequence at the end Guillaume. I didn't want to tell you how to edit your podcast, but there was definitely a part of me that, while it was happening, was thinking "this is kind of going on for awhile and will probably lose some listeners..." Good choice to put it at the end.
I just finished listening to this one, and it might be the best one yet. I do prefer the podcasts with 3 people instead of 4, and the 3 of you guys had great chemistry. Maybe a little too much time was spent on the "whatcha been playing" portion, but it was still enjoyable.
By the way, Anand is right about Super Circuit. It did NOT introduce the back and forth boosting (Mario Kart 64 did that). It was much more in line with what Mario Kart Wii does where you get an automatic boost after power sliding for a while.
@Guillaume Mario Kart DS is the "back and forth on a D pad" offender. Infamous even. Super Circuit, if I recall correctly, is closer to MKWii when it comes to mini turbos.
@ploot If you hack your Wii with Letterbomb, what happens when Skyward Sword comes out and you want to play it? Will you have to wait for a new homebrew solution? Can you unhack your Wii (if so how)? Do you risk updating and bricking your system?
Okay I wanted to get some thoughts on this. I know NW doesn't condone emulating but since it was brought up in the podcast I have a (moral? philsophical?) question for anyone that wants to chime in.
You guys talked a bit about if it is "okay" to emulate a game if it is no longer available for sale. My question is a bit different. I was wondering about emulating a game that you already have a physical copy of but maybe just want to have in a more convenient format. Specific example. I have a TG-16 but very seldom play my games because it's pretty big (with the CD) and all the extra wires - doesn't have wireless controls ect. So emulating the games on my Wii would definitely have me playing them more often.
I would say that there's absolutely no problem with that, from my moral perspective. Especially if the game isn't available for sale on your newer console.
@Robknoxious1 So you are saying you would be emulating games you actually own? Like, actually doing what pirates pretend they're doing? Yeah, I see no issue with that.
I dunno. To me it's in part a question of rewarding the companies making the effort to put their old games on these services. They went through the trouble of clearing the red tape, offering a quality emulation, etc. So if the game is not available for purchase at all, I don't have a problem with it. If it is available on the platform you're planning to emulate it on, then... I dunno. It's up to you.

Yeah I guess I was kinda looking at it like ripping a CD to run on my iPod. But then Guillaume got me thinking.....

You make a good point. Hadn't looked at it quite that way.
Some of the main games I was thinking of aren't available yet (Dungeon Explorer 2, Exile 2, Vasteel ect). I guess really with my backlog having more games to play is not something a really need right now. The upcoming Retro Game club got the nostalgia juices flowing I guess
