For the first (and last) time, five NWers appear on the podcast! Listen to Hendrik (Jargon), Andrew (Zero), Santi (GelatinousEncore), Anand and Guillaume talk over each other as they attempt to discuss Metroid Prime, ignored gems on the Wii, the future of 2D games, and the evil of downloadable titles!

As usual, the theme music comes from Negative World's owner and dictator, Zero. The rest of the soundtrack is taken from Metroid Prime.

Comment on the topics, the podcast, the guests, the host, etc. on Negative World! Or, be a weirdo and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.

@kriswright I often argue that 3 is the ideal amount of people per podcast as well.

@GelatinousEncore I think it is more obvious to those of us who participated when things get cut short though, just because, well... we were there so we know something was cut. Most listeners wouldn't be suspecting much. I think. Although there are times in RFN podcasts where I can tell a cut was made.

I actually forgot which bits were cut out while I was listening to the edit. It was pretty smoothly done.

What were we laughing about before it started recording?

@kriswright
I only count for 3? At least we all had our own unique accents, I guess. (I was the girl.)

We kind of messed around during the intro and outro, but we did pretty much discuss games for the whole show. Except for the chocolate stuff. Which reminds me: I have to track down some Milka. I'm a chocoholic, but I've never even heard of it! Excited.

Toblerone is pretty good, but my favorite is probably Lindt Dark Chocolate. Not the super-dark stuff that tastes like death. The one with a Royal Blue wrapper.

@Anand

Laughing at the "This call is being recorded" voice while you were talking about your distaste of putting on pants.

Anand, why haven't you added me on Facebook yet?

EDIT- Yeah! Someone sounds like Ray Romano! Don't hide it though, its awesome!
You stand out! Standing out is awesome.

I guess I don't mind my actual voice (wait, yes I do) so much as the fact that I talk kind of slow and whiny. I could probably get better at the way I speak, in time. Not used to actually hearing myself.

@Mr_Mustache

Hey, since when are you on Facebook? And why haven't you asked me to add you?

@Guillaume

I hate Facebook! It was an elaborate ruse!

This was my favourite episode yet. I don't know, I feel the chaotic 5-person episode keeps things interesting. Lots of opinions and it seemed lively!
Good stuff, guys.

I listened to the unedited version. I will, however pretend I listened to both so Guillaume feels his hard work was worth it.

GO STEAM!

Mustache is lying. He totally has, like, 400 Friends.

@Guillaume
Damn, you have a good memory. Mine sucks. That's why I say the same things and tell the same stories all the time, like a senile old man.

@Anand

Yeah, you've told us about your terrible memory before.

What?

Who are you?! Where am I?

*cranky*

@Guillaume, I have to say "Excellent job" on editing these podcasts. Thank you for giving us the unedited version, now I have a much better idea how much editing is involved, and how impressive the final cut is once you splice it all together.

As for the topics:

1) The Metroid discussion was good. I think every Metroid game has its strengths, and I would have a hard time picking a favorite. I definitely hope to see a 2-D Metroid game with full production values. It doesn't have to be on 3DS...

2) I enjoyed Santi's list of Wii/ WiiWare games, as I definitely have to give them my recommendation. (Nice shout out to Red Steel 2, that was one of my favorite games of 2010).

-de Blob 2 sounds good! I'm a big fan of the original. I definitely want to check it out. My problem is I have no time! Other games had priority this year for me.
-Klonoa: I've got it! It's a fun platformer. The game is a little bit too easy. The graphics are really impressive. Like Epic Yarn, the story and presentation can get a bit too cutesy/ candy coated, but it's a lot of fun.
-M.H. Tri: I got tired of fighting the same huge monsters in the hopes of getting those rare items I want. And yeah, it took a while to get into the meat of the game. MMmmmmm, meat....
-I'm guilty of not getting LostWinds 2. Like Anand, it's on my wanted list, but I have a huge backlog. OK, don't we all???
-I'm currently playing A Boy and His Blob on Wii! it's a good game.
-I loved Muramasa, though the gameplay got a bit repetitive. The game is entirely focused on the combat sequences.
-Mushroom Men was mentioned, I always had interest in it. The way you guys trashed that game was hilarious.
-Geometry Wars Galaxies is a good Wii game too.

3) Andrew has a valid concern about 2D games. We'll have to see what lies ahead, but it was definitely impressive the Wii got so many high production 2D retail games. If we could only see this trend continue on the Wii U...

4) I feel a bit lucky I have not fallen prey to impulse buying to the same degree as some of my fellow gamers. I don't even know what 'steam' is, and like Andrew, I also have a cheap little cell phone that would never be able to handle all these trendy little apple download things like Crazy Birds and Words with Pals. But most of my impulse buying is with retail games, so I still have a hefty backlog.

This was a fun episode to listen to!

Stache, so you've been hiding it from us all along!
It's OK!

Hi guys. Just wanted to say hi. I found this site through the podcast. And I found out about the podcast from RFN's 250 episode. On that episode Guillaume called in and asked some general questions about making a good podcast.

Anyway I decided to check out the podcast (off iTunes) and now the site. Glad I did. I'm catching up on many past episodes currently. Good stuff, keep it up!

Hey, welcome to Negative World, Robknoxious. Always room for another Megaman fan around the way.

In all honesty I never got into Mega Man but I'm thinking about getting Mega Man 10. I got the avatar when I first signed up and haven't tried to change it yet.

*Note: In fact you inspired me. I just downloaded the demo for my 360. If I like it (sure I will) I'll get it for the Wii.

@roykoopa64

Anand is just counting my NES games
The only friends who could love me!

@Robknoxious1

Welcome, fellow Rob!

You can't change the avatar until you get so many XP points (I think you need 10,000. You'll get a PM once you hit that mark).
May I suggest adding games to your collection (which I see you doing already, awesome! Do you have any older games? GC, N64, SNES, NES?) and the NEQ (under the "Games" tab)?

Thx for the info on the avatar Rob! (Great name right?)
I don't have too many old games even though I've been playing video games off and on since the Atari 2600 which I bought at age 16 with money from my first real job. Oldest games I have would be some TG-16 games and a few N64 games I hung on to. I had got out of playing much video games from like 2002 to 2009 when I received a Wii for Christmas. I'm on a platformer kick right now.

@Robknoxious1

I know, what an awesome name! Sorry, everyone else!

Do you like RPGs at all? Those are my main deal.
If you haven't played Muramasa, you might really like it. Its an action game with a lot of jumping and a straightforward approach. Its sidescrolling so it feels like an NES/SNES game, a real throwback. Its one of our favorite games around here.

That settles it. Muramasa has been on my radar for a while now. I'm gonna grab it with my b-day money. Hah I sound like a youngster - needing to use my birthday cash. Truth is I'm a stay at home dad and with one income I mainly get games as gifts right now. But yeah the main draw for me with Muramasa is the beautiful graphics but I've heard the action is satisfying also.

I been avoiding RPG's since I got back into gaming. I know I would get sucked in and not be able to tear myself away. Not a good time for that right now. I'm trying to play games I can take in smaller chunks. My mom is in her sixties and still enjoys turn-based RPG's a lot when she feels up to playing. I am, however thinking of getting Shining Force 2 off VC one of these days. More of a strategy game I know but I loved it back in the day.
