Final Fantasy III and Kirby's Dream Land lead the way in this week's effort to win back the core crowd!

Virtual Console

Final Fantasy III (Wii by Square-Enix (then Squaresoft), 800 points)
Kirby's Dream Land (3DS by HAL, $3.99)

WiiWare

Big Town Shoot Out (Performance Designed Products, 500 points)

DSiWare (also available in the 3DS eShop)

Moto eXtreme (Chillingo, 800 points or $7.99)
The Lost Town (Circle Entertainment, 500 points or $4.99)
Boardwalk Ball Toss (Skyworks Interactive, 200 points or $1.99)
Heart Spades Euchre (Cosmigo, 500 points or $4.99)

Source.

Apologies for the lack of some information earlier. NoA was apparently scrambling to put together such an awesome statement yesterday that they didn't properly code their presser for today's download. The only thing lacking is Final Fantasy III's price, but I'm assuming it's 800 points.

Hmm, Kirby's Dream Land on 3DS. The original though right, nothing touched up? I doubt I'll pick up the actual original.

FF 3 is tempting even though I own so many versions of that game.

Really makes me wish the 3DS had the 8 - 16 bit era games available on its VC.

Kirby's Dream Land is pretty boring in my opinion. I'm waiting for Kirby's Dream Land 2.

Might get FFIII though. Heard great things about that one, and for $8 I'll pick it up.

Moto eXtreme

God, that's zoomed in.

Maybe now they can focus on Lufia II now that this is out. DO IT COME ON DAMMIT!

@rebonack

I can't recommend FFIII enough. It's, in my opinion, the pinnacle of the series. Everyone will argue that it was VII, but to those that played RPGs before they were cool, it's III (America's III, Japan's VI) and II (to a lesser extent).

@VofEscaflowne

I'm sorry I got your hopes up 6 months ago, man, really.

couldn't find and of the other games on youtube. Didn't try to find FF III because I'm sure most of us know how that game is already.

It took so long for FF3 to be released but now it's here and YEAH BOYYYY.

Except I've been waiting to play this with Sarah (it's her favorite game) and now she's leaving for a month on this exact day. Guess I gotta wait even longer!

Kirby's Dream Land isn't a bad platformer. I remember thinking it was pretty awesome when my brother got it way back in the early '90's. The cast is cute and the inhale/spit gameplay makes for a different beast than the later Kirby games (which focus much more on using abilities). That said, it is pretty short and simple, so it might be best to wait for the sequel.

This made me laugh for some reason. Why's it so BIG...?

@Kal-El814
I think I remember that you used to have an IGN icon of all the FF3 characters laughing. It was awesome.

God these Thursday updates catch me by surprise. I want Mondays back

But hard to complain when one of the best RPGs ever comes out! I'm gonna probably wait to see if VC games transfer to Wii U before I buy it, but it will definitely be mine sooner or later.

@TriforceBun

I don't THINK that was me, but I know the icon you mean and it is indeed awesome!

But I posted there for a decade so... it's possible that I'm wrong.

That Moto game looks kind of fun. Like a boxy Trials. And the bionic arm makes up for the intense zoom. It doesn't look fast enough for the zoom to matter much, though.

I didn't realize that EVERYTHING moved to Thursday. I thought the VC and 3DS stuff was staggered.

Man, DSiWare is still getting a LOT of games.

@missypissy

They're winning the core back already!

I'm actually downloading something onto my Wii for the first time in ages (Final Fantasy III) and getting Kirby's Dream Land. It's a fun romp. Short, but worth the $4 for me.

I kind of wish they stuck with the inhale/spit mechanic as opposed to the abilities. Once I get the sword or whatever in a Kirby game, it's all just hitting right and attacking.

With a refined formula of the original inhale/spit, there could have been some great strategic platforming elements. Oh well, at least Kirby looks badass in some of his forms.

I went ahead and downloaded Kirby Dream Land. I've never played it before, so I'm happy I finally have the chance to do so.

@ploot
I can see where you're coming from. The modern Kirby formula certainly isn't very 'tight', considering all of the powers that you can get. Meta Knight Mode in Nightmare in Dreamland was actually pretty challenging.

@GameDadGrant

Enjoy it! It is short and not overly difficult, but it's Kirby's first game and it's still a lot of fun.
