The fourth annual Mario Marathon ended last night at 1:30 EST. Over the course of the 110 hour long marathon of all the main-series Mario console games, $110,642 was raised for Child's Play Charity.

Mario Marathon 4 was organized Brian Brinegar, aka Shirt Guy, and took place in his home, which was decorated for the event with pixel-art Mario wall stickers. Other players included John Groth (Couch Guy), Chris Deckard (Slouch Guy), Nate Jones (Shorts Guy) and Bobby Arnold (McLoveseat). Many other internet "celebrities" made appearances during the event, including Sundeep Rao (Orange Shirt Guy), Ben Cotton (Mac Guy), Jed Johnson, and a BUNCH more.

During the marathon, new levels for the players to beat were unlocked by donations. From the $110,642 raised, 775 out of 786 possible levels were unlocked.

The top referral site for Mario Marathon 4 was Penny Arcade, with $7,224.20 in donations. Our own Negative World was ranked #29, with $110.00 in donations.

Child's Play Charity is a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in a network of hospitals worldwide. Since its inception in 2003, the charity has distributed over $7 million worth of toys, games, books, and cash.

That was an awesome event (it's the first time I watched and participated), and I'm happy to see everyone come together for a good cause (including some of our own NW'ers)!

Good for them! I still don't really understand event-driven charity, but a good cause is a good cause.

Whats there not to understand? People can get entertained while watching and then feel good about donating to a good cause. Sure, anyone can donate at any time to any charity. I had no idea there was a Child's Play charity and the mario marathon opened my eyes to that charity
. I think its great what the charity does for needy kids.

Now, I didn't sit there and watch the entire 110 hours, but I probably watched around 3-5 hours, and some parts were fairly entertaining, other parts kindof boring. I thought the screen for the acutally gameplay should have been blown up a little more, but I understand why it was not.
