The Negative World Podcast celebrates its tenth episode by doing nothing special at all! Celebrate with us in much the same way by listening to it!

Warerare starts us off by asking what E3 represents for us. We are discussing not so much the even itself as we are discussing how we feel about it. Yes, grown men talking about their feelings. The Negative World podcast has taken estrogen and is liking it.

Guillaume, who DOES know the proper pronunciation of Cthulhu thank you very much, discusses licensed games simply to have an excuse to use the music from the moon level of Duck Tales as a transition.

Finally Paleo flat out asks us to justify paying for the Virtual Console when it's so easy and so free to get these games elsewhere. Is the answer "just because"? Listen and find out!

As usual, the music comes from Negative World's owner and dictator, Zero.

Comment on the topics, the podcast, the guests, the host, etc. on Negative World! Or, be a weirdo and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.

@warerare

You pronounced it how I do. I had no idea Guilluame meant Cthulu when he said 'Shtooloo'

@warerare

Haha, I left that part in, it was awesome! I did cut some long stretches of me rambling on, though, and adding nothing to the subject. Heh.

@Paleo_Orca

Yeah, I have no idea what I was thinking when I said shtooloo! I know the pronunciation from watching a documentary on Lovecraft. You guys should have said something!

@Guillaume

I didn't even know you were talking about him, in fact I thought you were picking me up on my pronounciation which I thought was correct.

Edit: Lol I just heard both parts straight after one another by randomly selecting areas to listen to, its like it was predestined. I have to say that pronounciation was something very special.

Hah. I treat E3 like a holiday too, Warerare... my friend/coworker is pissed off that I requested the day off "and will be calling in sick if they don't honor it," but too bad. This is my Superbowl/Christmas/Whathaveyou.

You guys should really stop saying Chthulhu so much. You're just asking for trouble.

Shit, now I said it!

I don't think he knows I talked about him.

Downloading now.

Hopefully this time I will actually remember the things I want to comment on by the time I get back to the forum to post them.

I liked the E3 discussion and how warerare celebrates the 'holiday'! I would like to do the same...
Guillaume, hope you have a good time at E3, that's awesome that you're going.
There have been a lot of great E3 moments, with the easiest one coming to mind being the Twilight Princess reveal.

The licensed game discussion was pretty good too. Certainly, time constraints typically lead to poorer games. I do like the broadening of the licensed game genres in some games, like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. I haven't played it, but isn't it an action game with RPG elements rather than a straight brawler?
When you talk of Duck Tales not making sense (ie he never uses the cane as a pogo stick in the cartoon), I am reminded of many of the awful licensed games like NES Rambo, Friday the 13th, Back to the Future, and so on. (Just look at AVGN for a full list!)
Since you brought up James Bond, I wanted to give a shout out to Nightfire on GCN. When it was released, I didn't think it was the next Goldeneye, but I found the Eurocom-developed game very satisfying nonetheless.

On the topic of emulators, I have actually never used one, but I know many who have. I couldn't think of any reasons to defend VC at first, but you guys did a great job promoting the benefits of VC!

Guillaume, I really think your speaking skills are improving. Not trying to say you were babbling incoherently before episode 10 , but you have less pauses, less 'um's, and more clear speaking, if that makes sense?

All in all, great episode Guillaume, Warerare, and Paleo!

Oh, really? Damn. At what point?

Seriously? I heard two swears, 23:36 and 57:05.

I've only seen it like... 30 times or so. Favorite of the nieces and nephews.

@roykoopa64

"Condescending ass" is a swear? And it's used self-deprecatingly...

As for me becoming a better speaker... I think I just edit more and more heavily.

And man, I gotta pat myself on the back for the DuckTales music. So good!

@Guillaume

Heh, I think you're right, it's technically not a swear. I think my brain just automatically interprets it as such whenever I hear it! Old habits die hard.

Do you guys not use the Nintendo Channel on Wii? You can do recommendations for all the games you play on Wii (and even DS games if you feel like linking the portable to the console) and get recommendations from others as well. This is for Virtual Console games as well as WiiWare. Is that what you were getting at when you wanted recommended games being brought to your attention through the console?

It's a little cumbersome, but the functionality is there. Maybe the Wii successor can make it more streamlined.

@GameDadGrant

I use Nintendo Channel, though I often forget that the recommendation feature even exists. I'm not as diligent about recommending DS games due to having to do the whole sync-up process.

@GameDadGrant

It IS cumbersome. I've done it a few times though. Usually the games that are suggested to me are games that I know I'd enjoy.

I don't like that they acknowledge "casual/hardcore" on there. I thought it was something created by internet turds, but that says to me that it isn't. Those are my thoughts on that.

So, to actually DISCUSS the podcast. I see Guillaume is all negative again while everyone else is getting excited about E3 DESPITE HIM GETTING TO GO TO IT.

No wait. That's not what I was going to discuss, which is licensed games. Specifically Darkwing Duck. I may be a bit biased because I was such a huge Darkwing fan, but man... that game rocked. It was definitely a bit of a rip of Mega Man but so what? Mega Man rocked too.

I'll also chime in that King Kong was pretty good. It felt a tad rushed, but overall pretty solid. And I like how it was less straight FPS and more a "survival" game. Almost in the same genre as Resident Evil 4 (though not nearly as good.) The Kong parts blew though.

Also, have to mention a favorite recent licensed game of mine, Astro Boy: Omega Factor! Sure I'm a bit of a Treasure whore but so what, the game was awesome. It did fall prey to the "beat-em-up" thing Guillaume mentions, but it was an awesome beat-em-up and had some shooting/flying mixed in as well.
