On this chapter of the Negative World Podcast, listen to four Nintendo nerds discuss video games, for a change!
Guillaume wonders what happened to role-playing games, and role-playing gamers. Hear him admit to the world that he may have judged Final Fantasy VII unfairly (but its clones still suck)
Chrisbg99, inspired by Negative World's Adventure Island review, asks about difficulty in games: most of us can agree that gamers have it too easy these days, but do we really want to go back to the days of hair-pulling difficulty?
Octorockin, ever curious to learn more about the gaming industry, asks why more games don't include special features: commentary tracks, documentaries, and other bits of info about the process of making the game we're playing.
Finally, Marsh shares his conclusions as to why he is not more interested in the 3DS than he is and asks why we play video games. Everyone seems to agree that playing games is simply rad, save for one. Can you guess who it is?
As usual, the music comes from Negative World's owner and dictator, Zero. (The lyrics are gone this time).
As usual, comment on the topics, the podcast, the guests, the host, etc. on Negative World! Or, be a weirdo and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.
@Guillaume Yeah, not sure why I haven't volunteered yet. Can't really think of an interesting topic I would feel knowledgeable enough about to discuss in detail.
How's the tinychat going, has it helped in getting more familiar with members' voices to make the transition to podcast smoother? Have you turned it into a regular weekly event?
Heh, people mostly type these days on tinychat, it's almost just like a regular chat. So no, it hasn't helped at all. Except now people know I'm less clean-shaven and have more of a widow's peak than my Mii would let on.
And LOL at the idea that your topic has to be interesting, and you, knowledgeable! . You're so wacky!
I like your voice Guillaume. I forgot to mention you guys renewed my interest in buying Bit.Trip Runner. I was going to before it came out but didn't for some reason (IGN's awful review? mebbe). That was around the time I completely stopped going to IGN I think..
OK, How did I miss the post about episode 8 being ready to listen to? And I am wondering to myself, did I listen to episode 7...maybe...I remember a few weeks back going through and listening to all of them, well most of them cause I had actually only listened to like 1.5 of them. Maybe episode 7 was in the mix when I spent half a day just listening to NW podcasts. But hey, it was a good day and I enjoyed all of them!
So, now I will listen to 8 here soon and double check to see what eps. 7 was about..cause that will jog my old memorybanks and I will remember, that is if I actually listened to that one.
Edit: yea, after checking, I did listen to episode 7. It was just as great as the first 6 podcasts. So, here soon, I will cast my judgement on the 8th episode. Maybe one day I will actually be able to join in on one of these!
@gamewizard65 You may already know this, but if you go to the front page you can also see when a new podcast is posted. It will have a yellow circle icon and won't be bumped off the page quickly by new posts/ threads. There's also a 'podcast' filter on that page to quickly see a list of all the podcasts, from newest to oldest.
Personally I find the front page a regular part of my NW viewing experience.
Yea, I actually know this, but for some reason I do not go to the front page that regularly. I have not made it into a habit..or at least yet. I mainly like looking at the threads and what the new posts are, ect.
I do go to the front page more often than I used to and believe it or not I only knew a 'front page' exsisted for NW only about a month or so ago, time goes by so quickly maybe it was 2 months...point is, it was only recently I happened to come across the front page.
I understand you, Guillaume, about gaming being such a solitary thing that it sometimes feels a bit... I don't think you used the word, but maybe you'd agree, it sometimes feels a little anti-social. Maybe embarrassing. Everyone else on the podcast acted like they didn't get where you were coming from, but I feel you there, man. Part of the reason I've lapsed with gaming is that I haven't been able to play with other people very much and I no longer like gaming by myself for too long. My favorite experiences this gen have been the family play sessions of WiiSports and stuff like that. The older I get, the more I prefer people to pixels, you know?
I did mention masturbation, I think that trumps the terms "anti-social" and "embarrassing"!
And I definitely know what you mean. I kick myself for forgetting to mention on the podcast how I will love the Wii forever for finally giving me a game that my dad will ask me to play with him: Wii Bowling.
