This is just me, but I think it would be foolish not to give Square Enix precisely A BUTTLOAD of money (in a dump truck) to move DQ10 to the Cafe. Quite literally there is nothing that they could do bigger or for a bigger bang for their buck.
I can't imagine Orbital's happy about this news. I am. I'm glad Nintendo is catching the sleeping giants flat-footed. Oddly enough, they feel like they won this generation when they got demolished, and they're trying to drag this generation out longer than it should be. They're trying their best to fight for that silver. Go, fellas!
How about pimp backwards compatability for the Cafe? Why not list it as available for Cafe and Wii prominently at the end of (or maybe even the beginning of?) a massive ad campaign? That could attach the Cafe name to DQ 10 just as effectively.
It would seem weird to me if Cafe didn't have Friend Codes after 3DS kept them around. They'd already had all the backlash by that point, what would have changed between now and then?
Then again, if Cafe really is going hard for the core, they might feel like they can get away with no friend codes on a system that isn't as catered to the younger or more casual crowd like 3DS is. (Of course, younger kids seem to care more about things being hardcore than anyone else)
It's the principle of it. If I want to call you on my iPhone, I need your phone number. We're used to having to deal with numbers for portable devices. But if I want to look you up on Negative World, all I need is your username. I think people view online communication between handhelds as more of a direct, personal thing, whereas online communication between consoles and computers should be more of a hub.
@Secret_Tunnel Still, wouldn't you think if they were moving away from that they would have with 3DS? I'm not sure if Nintendo worries overmuch about backlash. They're still worried about child predators or something.
@Secret_Tunnel They could put in parental controls on a handheld too. I think their main concern is still, in the end, that they don't want "strangers" adding kids directly through the console system. Kind of silly since there are a million other ways strangers can add kids, but yeah.
